BREAKING: Orca Dies Following Months-Long Infection at SeaWorld

An 18-year-old orca named Unna has died after a months-long illness at SeaWorld San Antonio. She suffered from a resistant strain of a fungus called candida, an infection that is common in captive orcas but likely not typical among orcas in the wild. Unna is the 38th orca used by SeaWorld to die far short of the species’s natural life expectancy.

From the moment she was born, Unna was sentenced to a lonely and sad life spent confined to a concrete pool. Orcas in the wild maintain lifelong bonds with their families, but Unna—seen as nothing more than a money-making machine—was taken away from her mother just before her sixth birthday and had to endure the stress and confusion of being transferred from SeaWorld Orlando to the San Antonio park.

Unna was impregnated when she was only 8 years old, and she gave birth to a stillborn baby. She was so bored and lonely at SeaWorld that she obsessively picked at the paint on the bottom of the show pool floor until her face became badly injured. If SeaWorld truly cared about animals, it would stop confining them to tanks and forcing them to do stupid tricks and start building coastal sanctuaries for them instead.

Together, we can help orcas at SeaWorld.

NEVER go to any SeaWorld park, and urge your friends and family to stay away, too. It’s too late for Unna and the 37 other orcas who died prematurely on SeaWorld’s watch, but there’s still hope for the remaining animals held captive and suffering at SeaWorld.

Tell SeaWorld to retire the orcas to seaside sanctuaries now!

Do you know what else you can’t buy with food stamps? Shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, tinfoil, plastic sandwich bags, toothpaste, cleaning products, tampons, pads, over the counter medications (such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.), and anything else you can think of that you cannot physically ingest for nutritional purposes.

Do you know what you can buy with food stamps? Food.

Do you know what it’s like to scrounge for change to buy non-edible necessities, use a credit card and EBT card (food stamps) during the same transaction, and then have the person in line behind you judge you for buying the ingredients to make a birthday cake?

People who disseminate false information about food stamps have never had to use food stamps.
