about 8 months ago i sat in my therapists office sobbing hysterically because she wouldn’t let me weigh the banana she was asking me to eat. all i saw was a yellow blob of carbs. fat. a symbol of no control. 45 minutes of running after the session. so much pain in her eyes and so much fear in my heart. it took an hour and half. i ate the banana, salty from my tears and then skipped dinner.

today i drove to a cafe 20 minutes from my campus to study without distraction. i got hungry around 4, on my drive home. i had a banana in my backpack. no tears, no sadness. i knew it was the perfect fuel for a great run with teammates when i got back.

some days are still really hard. sometimes bananas and grapes still scare me. but driving home today with the windows down playing music way too loud, i was damn proud of myself. one day at a time. bananas are delicious.
