I know I made a lot of friends in college that have a preconceived notion about sororities, but I thought that they'd respect me enough to not talk about how stupid their events are or something in front of me - especially the sorority I'm in.

Another thing that really bothers me is that they can't help but talk in front of me about what they don't like about my sorority.
First of all, they don't know the girls nor have they ever talked to them. They only have a preconceived notion about the girls from what they either ...
Hear from other people (sometimes these things aren't true. Have you heard of sorority rivalry? Some girls go as low as to shit-talk lies about a girl from another sorority).
See at a party. Consider that the girl is really drunk. How much do you judge a person when they are drunk? How much do you judge a person from a party? Is that their ENTIRE personality? Is that what their work ethic is like?
And most of all, HOW DARE they talked about it like I'm not there. I don't know if it's because they think I can't hear them or something else, but it doesn't matter. Do they feel as if I won't get angry if they say judgmental things about an organization that I'm in? Even I have tolerance for certain things.
I really interpret this act as showing that they don't have respect for me. I spent time and effort on these events and conventions. I lose MANY hours of sleep not because I'm hanging out online, but because I have responsibilities trying to balance planning these events and practicing for a dance group and studying.
I don't want to hear criticism like, "Oh that's stupid," from someone who isn't even in the group for planning. It's either none of your business, or you have no right to comment on anything because you didn't contribute SHIT to it.
Thank you for telling me that my efforts are stupid. Thanks for telling me that my sisters/friends and dance members are whores or stupid. Thanks for being sooo supportive (sarcasm intended).
Just tell me how I'm not supposed to feel offended or upset about these things? I wish they could put themselves in my shoes for a bit, but they're not willing to understand (nor can they understand, apparently) what I have to go through and what I have to hear every day.
I know that not everyone is supportive of the ideas of sororities, but sometimes they should keep their opinions to themselves. Their opinions can be hurtful.
