(Little bit of lore): After an incident on an offshore oil rig that Vale worked at, it left his body a little (A LOT) mangled-tangled. Hearing about the incident, Rotti wanted to use Vale as an example to demonstrate the extent of GeneCo’s ability to manipulate the human body. Before the accident, Vale had a different identity. It was a domestic life that resided in the family he had built alongside his partner. Yet, it was wiped when he had been reported ‘M.I.A’ after the incident at the rig.

A bit of reconstruction later, the pain response left him detached and even contributed to a chunk of memory loss. In addition, Vale’s skin was no longer his own, now forever wearing a donor’s body on the outside. Vale even struggles with a lot of derealization due to this as well. And what was holding him together? Laces lining his back, keeping the flesh shut. (I kinda wanted to use Pavi’s face mask thing as inspiration since GeneCo appears to have issues with properly securing things. 😭) Of course, Rotti saw opportunity to pull strings. Yada Yada new identity, huge debt because of surgery, Rotti allows Vale to pay off his debt through contributing to repossessions.
