Because Rec Lists Are Too Static

I wanted a way to organize the fics I've read that's a bit easier to navigate and change than a rec list, so I made this.

My Thoughts

Ok, this is one of those fics that I absolutely LOVED and have reread several times. It's a bit of an AU, but things turn out so much better than they did in the actual show.

The only MAJOR change is that when Sam and Danny were young they got into an accident that caused this sort of psychic link to open between them. Over the years they grew it until the point where they had to shut it down. Now, in a time that's about halfway through the actual show, the link starts opening again and they have to learn to deal with it again.

It's a REALLY GOOD FIC that's much more character-driven than anything else. As the author says, all of the characters are a bit more realistic (since cartoon characters exaggerate characteristics) and it goes really in-depth with everyone's relationships.

It's also a rather long fic at over 250K but so incredibly worth it. It can be hard to find good Danny Phantom fics but this is one of the best.

Ok I realized that things would get really confusing if I had every fluff fic from every fandom tagged as fluff

so I think what I'll do is have the fandom be the main branch and then everything else is a subtag

Like a Supernatural fluff fic will be spn: fluff

(and to denote the fic as Supernatural I'll keep the fandom: spn tags and such)

For those following, I'm not quite sure how I'll format all of the posts or how I'll do the tag system (which I just realized will be ridiculously complicated for a multi-fandom rec blog oops) so things'll pry look weird for a while

Author's Summary:

Hiccup didn't see the point in stopping Astrid as she ran off towards his village—towards his father—with his most desperately protected secret. He was leaving anyway. A coming-of-age tale. Deviates from movie. Borderline bromantic-comedy.

My Thoughts:

An absolutely BRILLIANT story that really builds the characters from HTTYD in a realistic way that could definitely be canon if things had gone differently.

It picks up in the second half of the movie, right after Astrid discovers Toothless as he and Hiccup are getting ready to leave Berk. Instead of chasing her, Hiccup lets Astrid run back to the village, and he and Toothless leave. Most of the story then follows Hiccup and Toothless as they travel through Europe, but there are some times when the story returns to Berk to follow the people who were left behind. There are also a lot of characters and references from the original books that the movie was based on!

It's a huge fic with over 300k words, but the pacing and writing is wonderful, every new setting that Hiccup encounters is incredibly detailed and well-researched, and the end leaves the story well-finished but still open, a rather strange feeling of completion.

This blog is mainly for me so that I can make what's not necessarily a rec list but more of an archive of fics I've read that I want to keep track of and maybe revisit

So unless if people really like it and a redesign becomes a necessity, it'll probably not ever look pretty and personalized like other blogs of this kind

But oh well because again this is a blog mainly for me and for anyone who's interested in what I'm reading
