Phillies sign Cuban RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to 6 year deal

Phils took a risk and outbid the Red Sox tonight. The deal is for 6 years and worth more than $50 million. Gonzalez has been impressing scouts all over and has the potential to be an ace. He throws a cutter, splitter and a changeup. His fastball is in the range of 91-94 and will top out at 96. Assuming no one in the rotation gets traded and Halladay comes back strong (and stays here), next year’s rotation could be something like Lee/Hamels/Halladay/Gonzalez/Pettibone or KK or Lannan which is pretty exciting. I really, really like this move.
