I liked the adrenaline rush but too many lived.
Seriously GRRM writes to show the cruel indifference of war and that anyone can and will die. The plot armor in this episode was so thick some characters weren’t even wearing physical armor this battle was tooo glorious. And yes a bunch of people died, but how many does that the audience would relate too?
Plain and simple these whites were coming in literal waves:
- Gorah and Ghost would have been over whelmed and wiped out if they were on the front lines
- Greyworm would not have made it to the back, also over whelmed
- Lyanna’s neck would have been snapped with that first hit
- Sam barely putting up a fight, dead
- The Hound hesitating for that long, dead
- Davos, a large man, standing in the corner as dozen of whites rush by, dead
- Pod, Brie and Jamie were overwhelmed, dragged under, dog piled, and pinned to walls multiple times, all dead
- Dany, dozen of whites got shaken off Drogon as he fled and he didn’t burn them so just having a couple staggering towards you isn’t happening, dead
- Jon….oh Jon, no armor AGAIN, fell off a dragon, ran head first toward the Night King as he was clearly raising the dead several of which were feet away and had him surrounded, fire isn’t that accurate and it’s been established that you aren’t fire proof sooo very dead and that’s before you ran back for your sword and screamed at an undead dragon.
The only characters on the battle field who acted in any realistic way were Drogon who was a good boi but got spooked when his mom neglectfully kept him on the ground for two long, Theon already knowing he was going to died swinging to the last blow, and Arya who kept her wits about her fought when she was able and rested when she could it’s atleast established she can sneak around virtually unheard, she’s not perfect because one of the generals spotted her just before she struck and she been working with that blade so her drop switching the blade wasn’t bad.
To the crypts…..some how we have a reverse problem. These are mostly sketelons why are we just having them bust through the STONE tombs?!? If we aren’t going the secret passage route or having them bust down the doors then have the ones down there trying to move the stone slab on top, most of them won’t be able to but imagine the fear of cowering hearing them rattle and scratch but not knowing which one have enough to get out. Give Sansa and Tyrion at least one kill a piece a they lead the elderly, women, and children to help keep the tombs closed stabbing at those close to coming out, then have Rickon who if kept in that cold place for less than a year would still be meaty easily slip from his tomb and charge at them right before Arya ends the battle.
So many missed opportunities, could have seen the houses that choose not to come, Hodor, Rickon so many…. Them taking out two armies (suspiciously the brown people) just seems like a lazy way of letting Cersei have a fighting chance, because no one would use these fighters like this, I don’t care on how short of a notice. You’d have the dragons swooping down and torching the field BEFORE the blood riders you’d have dug those barriers way further out to stop the dead and give room for the Dothraki to fight, the unsullied would be behind a second fire barrier against the walls of the castle and just in side they are far more disciplined and would handled wall climbers better, Bear island would be protecting the crypts and the rest would be at the gods woods Arya would be relying messages and providing support as needed.
