Omg! I love your art style so much! I noticed that you do a lot of shading with lines and I was wondering if you had any tips for that as I love how it looks! When I try that it kinda just looks like a contoured scribble 😅 [insert even more inexpressible love for your art] ❤❤
Thank you so much! I drew a quick Dabi and took a video of it. Sorry if it’s not very stabilized, I don’t have a proper tripod. My tripod is a human (who can’t stop laughing). I also had to cut parts because it was originally 9 mins long.

Keep your hand light, and make sure when you stroke with your pen, it is not as heavy as you would do when writing normally on paper. Keep your wrist and elbow steady.
When I’m inking, I scrape the surface of the paper with the pen, instead of actively letting the ink go out freely. I tilt the pen at an angle, and make the tip of the pen scratch the surface, so not a lot of ink gets out. This angling of the pen changes a lot while I draw.
Some more details: At around 00:15 in the video, I become extra careful on the face, and let less ink out, because this is a rollerball pen. It will drop a large dunce of ink if you’re not careful.At around 1:13, I’m using this orange pencil to draw guides where the direction of the shading would be. You can hardly see it but it sort of works like this:
Shading: I put lines on the darkest shadows first (like the clothing folds). Let the pen puke out more ink this time, by making your hand slightly heavier.There’s another method I use. After putting lines on the darkest parts, I go over it again while shading the rest of the clothes, the clothing folds gets twice the lines, making it naturally darker. Like this:
Rollerball pens tend to blot out dots where you begin your strokes, so take advantage of that and strategically begin your strokes on areas that you want folds/creases. I switch between doing this, and actually drawing the creases:
