Anyway, I'd rather you call me Franky or, if you're feeling a little spicy, Oneshot — seriously, we're still doing superhero names, right?

Wait, you're saying I am not a superhero? Okay? That seems beside the point. I totally could be a hero if I wanted to! I've got the skills for it.

Oh, yeah, you don't know about this yet. Well, I am associated with @vanguardiahq which is a fancy way of saying I am enrolled there. And that in turn means I got sweet, sweet powers. Enhanced Accuracy, baby!

… Yes, that means I throw stuff, but I throw stuff pretty darn well, if I may say so myself. You know all these things that impact others while aiming? Wind, low visibility, etc. Yeah, I'm not bothered by these sorta things. Not to brag, but I never miss my target. All it takes is one shot… Get it? That's why I go by… Anyway.

So what else can I tell you about me? I'm 24, which means I'm a third-year student at Vanguardia. So the faculty is probably already used to my antics. And if they're not, well, they should be.

Especially the teachers for Applied Ethics of Power and Tactical Communications, which are the two major courses I chose this year.

I'm also taking martial conditioning this year, apparently being able to "hold your own" is a good skill to have.

Oh, and operative arts for the third year in a row, mainly because they won't let me take weapons integration a second time, even though I aced that back in first year and I would ace it again!

So yeah, that's what you need to know about me and my academics. If there's any remaining questions, you probably just have to ask them."

Franky was still smiling to himself, and he was about to turn to this new conversation partner and answer with one smug sentence or another, when he realized who had been the person talking to him. For a second, his jaw threatened to drop, but he managed to reign his facial muscles in just in time. Still, a quick thought of 'Holy Shit!' crossed his mind. He had tried to befriend Kai once. Two years ago, when Franky had been in his first year and the other man in his second. Kai had made sure that Franky understood that he did not want his company, nor his friendship. Still here he was, talking to him, like it was the most normal thing in the world. Okay, okay, cool. Easy. No problemo. Except for once in his life, Franky was thrown off his game enough that he wasn't quite sure how to respond. "What, uh, uhm?", he stuttered before giving his head a small physical shake. What was he doing? This was just a normal conversation. "Well, I always feel good about myself." He grinned. "That's sort of the Franky deal." Franky grinned. "Are you telling me you never pulled a little joke with the first years before?"

Kai had to fight the urge to grin when Franky stuttered. He wasn't exactly content with the fact that he had so thoroughly isolated himself with barely a friend to his name, but he still found it funny when people responded to him with confusion, discomfort, or fear. Kai wasn't sure which Franky was experiencing, but to his credit, he composed himself pretty quickly. "Of course it is." Oh, to feel good about yourself; he couldn't relate. In all honesty, the more the other guy spoke, the more Kai realised just how out of his element he was. What was he supposed to do now? Just have a normal conversation? Small-talk? "On first years? Nah. But I don't think the faculty consider what I do as a joke." Sure, he only targeted bullies, but they still didn't seem to approve. "Where'd you pull that from anyway? Someone use that on you when you were a first year?"

"How dare you?" Franky asked and pressed the palm of his hand against his chest in mock offense. "I don't reuse jokes, my friend. Everything you hear from my mouth comes from my own brain, I'll have you know." It felt a little weird. Joking around like this, with Kai of all people. It wasn't like Franky didn't like the other man - truthfully, he knew him too little to get a full picture of him anyway, but Franky had the tendency to at least get along with most people. No, it was the fact that Franky usually talked to people who, as far as he could tell, actually wanted to talk to him. Why Kai had approached him, well, he simply didn't know.

But Franky was not about to let that sour his mood. So, he couldn't immediately discern Kai's intentions. Big deal. They were still having a conversation, and hey, hadn't that been, what he had wanted all those years ago?

"We should grab lunch together, one of these days!" Franky blurted out, before the conversation could die. "So I can proof to you, that I come up with everything myself."

             this   was   one   thing   she   didn't   miss   while   being   on   break.   sigrid   had   been   watching   the   interactions   between   franklin   and   the   new   kids   ,   their   eyes   wide   with   wonder.   sigrid   didn't   know   what   made   the   new   kids   always   believe   the   same   lies   ,   and   which   graduate   had   the   honour   of   telling   the   younger   kids   which   lies   to   tell.   as   the   freshmen   ran   away   sigrid   walked   up   to   the   instigator.   "what   have   we   told   you   about   telling   lies   to   the   newbies   ?"   sigrid   asked   ,   brow   raised   ,   unimpressed.   "first   day   back   and   you're   already   prepping   for   your   own   ,   what   did   you   call   it   ,   free   period   ?"

Sharply Franky drew in air through his front teeth. Of course. Of all people it had to be Mrs. Holmström, who had observed his little interaction with the first years. At least he managed to keep from rolling his eyes in her direction. That probably wouldn't have gone over too well. Instead he brandished his most charming smile. »To not get caught doing so?« The joke was not only bold, given who he was talking to, but likely misplaced as well. The threat of immediately being sent to dean, however, did have him sober up quickly. »Come on. It's just a bit of harmless fun. There's no way, any of them will believe it, right?« He shrugged. »And if they do… well that sets a baseline for the expectations we can have for them.«

søren  remembered  his  own  orientation.  thirty  years  had  moved  past  him  in  a  flash  ;  as  the  lost  faces  of  new  students  moved  past  them  he  offered  a  warm  smile,  an  assurance  that  things  weren’t  as  scary  as  they  seemed.  or  at  least  they  wouldn’t  be,  once  the  fresh  faces  settled  in.   he   once   wanted   to   be   a   real   doctor,   to   make   a   difference,   to   help   and   heal   beyond   the   gifts   he   had   been   born   with.   sometimes   he   missed   it,   the   bright   lights   and   clean   whites   of   a   hospital   bay,   the   long   shifts,   the   grateful   patients   after   a   miraculous   recovery.  as  he  gazed  out  over  the  new  recruits,  he  turned  to  the  presence  beside  him.  “do   you   think   if  i  ask  nicely  these   new   students   will   sign  up  to   my   classes ? i bet my wife i'd get more students than her this year.”

Franky had not planned to stop right next to Mr. Holmström, as he had made his way through the crowd of first years, a handful of whom looked at least somewhat like they were going to spontaneously combust, if anyone as much as asked them about their class schedules. But when the crowed had become a bit too tight to navigate comfortably, he had stopped right next to the older man. Arguably, there were worse people, and especially worse faculty members, to share a conversation with. He weighed his head to the side, then he sighed. "Yeah, I think you're losing that bet, sir." His hands were stuffed in the pockets of his jacket, absentmindedly playing with the bits and pieces he had stuffed in there. Trash, some might call it. Projectiles was the term Franky preferred. "But hey, if it's any consultation, I am not taking any of your wife's classes either." He grinned. Mrs. Holmström and he didn't exactly mix well, at least that's what Franky felt like, and so far he had done a good job avoiding her, except for that course in first year, when he had taken crisis management and proven once and for all, that Franky being at the scene of an emergency was perhaps the biggest crisis of all. "Maybe you just need to make it more accessible for the first years."

josie  can't  help  but  smile,  a  gleam  of  genuine  amusement  in  her  eyes  as  she  passes  the  first  years,  now  whispering  amongst  themselves,  and  walks  up  to  franky,  a  welcome  sight  on  campus  for  her.  “  creative,  ”  she  mused with a soft chuckle,   before raising an  eyebrow.  “  how  many  people  do  you  think  will  actually  believe  it,  though?  ”  her  eyes  shift  back  to  the  first  years  who  begin  to  disappear  into  the  crowd  of  students  around  them,  hums  to  herself  for  a  moment  as  she  thinks.  “  maybe  you  could just  choose  the  most  chill  professor  to  pin  it  on,  i feel like then, it'd be way more  believable.  ”

The smile on Franky's face spread further as he saw Josie approach. Sometimes he couldn't help but feel like the two of them lived in different worlds. He had grown up, knowing that the world didn't owe him a cent and she, well suffice to say, Franky doubted that Josephine Yoon knew what it was like to sleep on the passenger seat of your father's truck, to the noise of said father and other "modern day sailors" - as Franky liked to call them - trading good-natured insults back and forth on channel 19. Still, he couldn't help but feel like there was more to her. More than the limelight and the media attention and the impeccable posture. And maybe that was, why he liked her, despite the wealth she had been born into. "Well, if I go with what my heart tells me? All of them." He laughed, then shook his head. "But I am perfectly happy if it's just one or two. Once it becomes a rumor, the chances are probably better." He shook his head to her next suggestion. "A true master takes credit for his work!" Franky craned his neck to follow try and catch one of the first years in the crowd, to see if they were dutifully taking the message to their friends, but there were too many people around for him to spot them. So, he turned his attention back to Josie. "Man, it's full here. I'm going to get something to drink. You're coming, too? You can tell me about your holidays. What did you get up to, while we were free of this place?"

Despite himself, Kai could feel one side of his mouth tug up into a smirk as he listened to Franky impart wisdom on to the new first years. He wasn't doing any real harm–it was barely even a prank–and it was pretty funny. Outside of classes, he wasn't sure that Franky had spoken to him since the first time he tried and Kai had told him and his sunshine to fuck off, but maybe he wouldn't be a bad place to start if he was going to start... socialising. Leaning against the railing not too far from him, he called out, "Feeling pretty good about yourself?" Try as he did, the words still vaguely came out sounding like a threat.

"You will do no such thing!" Maria called over to the first years her mind whispering how gullible can near adults be! and quickly warning them that if sent to her there would be dire consequences. Sending them off with new fear in their eyes she turned slowly to Franky. "Are we really starting the new year in this way already Mr Bouchard?"

Franky did try, and ultimately fail, to keep himself from rolling his eyes, as his wonderful plan dissolved into thin air. It hadn't even had time to start and grow in these kid's heads. How unfair. He blew air into his cheeks and let it escape with a soft noise of disappointment, before turning to Vanguardia's Dean. "I have no idea what you're talking about." They had played this song and dance often enough during the past years, and Franky was well aware that the apparent innocence on his face could not fool her. But that didn't stop him from trying anyway. "I was just trying to help the new students."

Phoebe shook her head from behind him, not unfondly, as she watched the poor first years walk off. Well, this was an institution of learning, was it not? They would certainly do that. She made a mental note to let Maria know that she should go easy on any missed appointments in the first few weeks. "Are you being paid to be a full-time menace here, Franky?" she asked, fighting off a smile. "Or are you only in it for the love of the game?"

If asked later, Franky would deny the small jolt that surged through his body as he heard Miss Hughes voice from behind him. But he did in fact jump, even if just a little, before he turned around. "Jesus!", he complained. "Surely there's a rule against sneaking up on students!" Not that Franky himself spend a lot of time thinking about such arbitrary things as 'rules'. The shock definitely didn't last long, and he shrugged with a smirk. "I would say it's more like a hobby. Someone has to keep those kids on their toes, right?"

"The food's pretty good." Nate shrugged as he picked through the appetizers, not really eating much. It looked good, at least, but he wasn't all that interested in it. Still, he was giving it a lot more effort than last year, when he was just about paraded around like fresh meat. This year, he got to observe the exact same thing happening to other newcomers. "Do you think I could get away with pocketing some of it and hiding away in the dorms?"

"Told you they'd go all out." Franky chuckled as he shoved half of another appetizer into his mouth, not bothering to chew before he continued. "They need to lure in the newbies." He chewed, swallowed. "Fatten them up like Hansel and then BAM they're trapped, ready to be shoved into the oven." He grinned at his roommate. "Just like we are." Even though Franky personally considered himself more of a Gretel type. Smart enough to see behind the curtain and all that. Or had that been Goldilocks? Maybe he was getting his fairy tale girls mixed up. Nate's next question had him shrug. "I mean, if you don't ask, they can't tell you no, right?"
