Christophe Beck - Paperman
Today's song is again extremely beautiful from an equally beautiful short film by Disney called Paperman. It won an Oscar for the Best Short Film in 2013. You wouldn't be surprised that it did if you watched it.

Hans Zimmer - Interstellar Main Theme I'm still recovering from the stellar effects of Interstellar and acute Nolania. What a beautiful film, what a beautiful movie, what beautiful music. Much has been said about Nolan and Interstellar and Hans Zimmer so anything I say (and as much I say) would never be enough, so I am not going to try. Interesting thing about the score for the movie:
"Chris said to me, in his casual way. 'So, Hans, if I wrote one page of something, didn't tell you what it was about, just give you one page, would you give me one day of work?'" Zimmer told Shone. "'Whatever you came up with on that one day would be fine.'"
Zimmer agreed, and then one day he received a one-page typewritten letter. Per Shone:
On the paper was a short story, no more than a precis, about a father who leaves his child to do an important job. It contained two lines of dialogue — "I'll come back" "When?" — and quoted something Zimmer had said a year before, during a long conversation with Nolan and his wife at the Wolesley restaurant in London ... "There was no movie to be made, there was no movie to discuss, we were talking about our children," said Zimmer, who has a 15-year-old son. "I said, once your children are born, you can never look at yourself through your eyes any more, you always look at yourself through their eyes."
Zimmer spent a day composing the theme and then showed it to Nolan, and Nolan loved it. It was only then that Nolan revealed what kind of movie he had in mind. As Zimmer told Shone:
"I asked him, 'Well, yes, but what is the movie?' And he started describing this huge, epic tale of space and science and humanity, on this epic scale. I’m going, 'Chris, hang on, I’ve just written this highly personal thing, you know?' He goes, 'Yes, but I now know where the heart of the movie is.' Everything about this movie was personal.'"

The Album Leaf - 'Window'
I discovered The Album Leaf through this song in the movie Her. Like all of the songs I feature here, I was completely struck by the simplicity of this track, and its use in the film. I watched (and re-watched) the film and downloaded the soundtrack. This piece stayed on, somehow, and I find myself returning to it. I am a lot into instrumental music and absolutly love EITS, Mogwai and the like. As I write this, I'm listening to The Album Leaf's another track which is quite interesting too..
Have a blissful Sunday!
#1song1day → Niladri Kumar's Haseen Niladri Kumar strikes again! In this brilliantly produced song from his 2003 album, IF - Magical Sounds of Sitar, he weaves magic into his strings (like always). :) Those following this blog already know that I am crazy about him. I recently discovered that Niladri has his official facebook page (and a fan page, which is good) too and is going to release his new album, Plucked soon (already released on itunes btw. Super excited!
'Jaya He!' - The Complete Indian National Anthem Not many of us know about this version of the national anthem. The complete version written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1570. Hell, not many of us know there is a full version of the national anthem. There is, and here it is. This one's sung by 39 prominent artists of the country. Lyrics: Stanza 1 (National Anthem of India) Jana Gana Mana Adhinaayak Jaya Hey, Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaataa Panjaab Sindhu Gujarat Maraatha, Draavid Utkal Banga Vindhya Himaachal Yamuna Ganga, Uchchhal Jaladhi Taranga Tav Shubh Naamey Jaagey, Tav Shubh Aashish Maange Gaahey Tav Jayagaathaa Jana Gana Mangal Daayak, Jaya Hey Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaataa Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Jaya Jaya, Jaya Hey Stanza 2 (National Anthem of India) Ohoroha Toba Aahbaana Prachaarita, Suni Tab Udaar Vaani Hindu Bauddh Shikha Jain, Parasik Musolman Christaani Purab Pashchim Aashey, Tab Singhaasana Paashey Premohaara Hawye Gaanthaa Jana Gana Oikya Vidhaayak Jaya Hey, Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaataa Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Jaya Jaya, Jaya Hey Stanza 3 (National Anthem of India) Potona Abhbhudaya Bandhura Pantha, Yug Yug Dhaabit Yaatri Hey Chir Saarathi, Tab Ratha Chakrey Mukharit Patha Din Raatri Daarun Viplab Maajhey, Tab Shankh dhwani Bajey Sankat Dukh Trata Jana Gana Path Parichaayak, Jaya Hey Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaataa Jayo Hey, Jayo Hey, Jayo Hey, Jayo Jayo Jayo, Jayo Hey Stanza 4 (National Anthem of India) Ghor Timir Ghan Nibiro, Nishithey Peedit Murchhit Deshey Jagrat Chhil Tab Abichal Mangal, Nato Nayan Animeshey Duswapney Aatankey, Raksha Kariey Ankey Snehamayi Tumi Mata Jana Gana Duhkh Trayak, Jaya Hey Bharat Bhagya Vidhaataa Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Jaya Jaya, Jaya Hey Stanza 5 (National Anthem of India) Raatri Prabhatil Udil Ravichhabi, Purb Uday Giri Bhaaley Gaahey Vihangam Punya Sumiran, Nav Jeevan Rash Dhaley Tab Karunaarun Raage, Nidrit Bhaarat Jagey Tab Charane Nat Maatha Jaya Jaya JayA Hey, Jaya Rajeshwar, Bhaarat Bhaagya Vidhaataa Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Hey, Jaya Jaya Jaya, Jaya Hey
Raeth - Bhula Do
This song by Raeth dates back to and is one of the less popular Pakistani bands (compared to Jal, Junoon and Strings) in India but very talented nevertheless. They have done some really good songs in the past (their second album, Hum Yaadon Ke Sang is one of my favourites) and have done a new song in the upcoming Bollywood flick, Zanjeer
Prem Joshua - 'Meera' from Luminous Secrets
Prem Joshua inspite of being German has a deep Indian connection. He (along with Pt. Ravi Shankar, Karunesh, Chinmaya Dunster and Manish Vyas) is one of the pioneers of 'world music' as a genre and is popular worldwide for his very groovy tracks.
This is again one of those tracks which makes me fall in love with it every time I hear it because of its sheer brilliance. The sitar pieces are beautiful and soothing at the same time. The whole album is a great listen and highly recommended.

2. Shammi Pithia's 'Poem Without Words (Acoustic)' from 'Cinema for the Ears'
Bombay Dub Orchestra - Feel
I am surprised at myself that BDO has been featured only once on #1song1day before. I have already given a short introduction about them before and considering the amount of great work these guys have done, they must be occasionally featured here.
Feel is one of the first BDO songs I heard and was mesmerised by the way they seamlessly weave the different elements into one soothing track.
Have a great evening!
In A Dream World
Stumbled on this composition when I was browsing through youtube and boy what beauty this is! The sitar (one of my favourite instruments) is played by Amita Dalal and the song is composed by another of my favourite and Grammy award-winning artist, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt from the album Sitar Lounge.
Zariya
Nun Ani Choying, a Nepalese Buddhist and Farah Siraj, a Jordanian singer come together in this wow-some track composed by AR Rahman for Coke Studio India season 3. Going by the song and promos that are being released (before the show premiers on 17th August) this is going to be one power-packed season. Rahman redefines the genre 'world music' in this one and does a lot of (nice) experimentation throughout all his productions.
Seen along with Nun and Farah in this song are Sivamani, arguably the most popular percussionist from India and Rahman himself playing a different kind of keyboard called the Continuum Keyboard.
Never in my wildest imaginations did I think that The Piano Guys will come up with something like this.. For all those who feel that the lyrics take away some of the brilliance of the song, I share your feeling. But that does not undermine the beauty of it. Like, I've said before, I go crazy every time The Piano Guys release a song. :)
