There were a million and one terrible things that people could say about Tony Stark. Pepper had heard them say just about every god damn one of them, too. The worst part about it was that — unfortunately — most of them were true. Tony Stark was selfish. He always made everything about him, even when it wasn’t. Tony Stark was conceited. Pepper was convinced that he honestly believed he was gods gift to the world. Tony Stark was manipulative. He knew how to use people to get what he wanted. He knew how to use his money and his influence to get what he wanted. And he loved getting what he wanted so much that he often used these abilities to do so. Worst of all, Tony Stark was irresponsible and immature. The man was in his forties for christ’s sake, and he still needed to be taken care of by his personal assistant and monitored like a baby to make sure he didn’t do something stupid or reckless or dangerous or — god forbid — all three. Yeah, there were about a million and one terrible things that people could say about Tony Stark. But they just didn’t know the million and one wonderful things there were about him.

Those were the reasons why Pepper Potts was marrying him.
