TED CRUZ IS THE ZODIAC KILLER
MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY
At our Feb 17 meeting, the RPI Photo Club had fun with Macro Photography techniques and focus stacking, discussing elements of a macro photograph and how certain results can be achieved. Members were able to take their own macro photographs of constructed scenes to experiment with working distance and composition at different focal lengths.
After taking a series of photos, photo merging and focus stacking was used in post-processing to create the final image seen above with an extended depth of field. Depending on the subject and on your artistic vision, you may want some parts of the photo to be out of focus to better highlight the most interesting element.
Macro photography can be a very fun and creative type of photography - you can turn everyday objects into beautiful abstractions or examine textures and intricacies of the world around you in extreme detail. Inserting objects like Lego figures or gummy bears can make your macro photos more playful for added interest.
You can try macro photography for yourself no matter your budget with solutions ranging from very inexpensive close-up filters to affordable extension tubes to professional macro lenses.
In the area and want to become a member of the RPI Photo Club? Join us Wednesdays from 8-10 PM in Union 3602.

This HDR series, part of which makes up Vibrant Nights at RPI, contrasts the warmth of a Troy sunset with the cool glow of the campus’ artificial lighting.

If you ever feel bad about not being able to come up with creative names, one of the residence halls at my university is called Hall Hall.
Ah, (Hall)^2. However, it’s named after James Hall, a famous graduate.
Severus Snape spotted at RPI.
He’s always watching.

You walk up to a student. “What’s your major?” they ask. “Engineering,” you reply. You aren’t an engineer – you came here for biology. “Engineering,” you repeat. “Engineering, engineering, engineering.” You cannot stop.
