Fishermen bringing in the day's catch as the sun sets on Rodadero Beach.
Off to the Caribbean.
Monserrate is a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogotá. It rises to 3,152 metres above sea level, where there is a church with a shrine, devoted to El Señor Caído ("The Fallen Lord"). The peak can be reached by funicular (a type of cable railway, see picture 2), cable car and a 2 mile footpath used by pilgrims. And also presumably by the pack horses bringing supplies (picture 3). Picture 4: The tenth station of the cross, Jesus is stripped of his clothing.
Bandeja Paisa - Colombia's mixed grill. A typical Colombian dish consisting of ground meat, pork belly, sausage, fried egg, rice, arepa, plantain, avocado and beans
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is a Roman Catholic church built within the tunnels of a salt mine 200 metres underground in a halite mountain near the town of Zipaquirá, in Cundinamarca, Colombia.
The church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, patron saint of miners.
Me and Hercules, who took me on a terrifying/magical ride through some pretty steep landscape. Then relaxing with a hammock and a guanabana Ice cream. Guanabana is also known as custard apple and delicious enough to merit it.
Eating breakfast by Lake Sochagota. Calentado is a traditional "leftovers" breakfast of reheated beans and rice from the night before. Caldo de Papa is a meat broth with potatoes, a very unusual breakfast food for a Brit.
Lengua en salsa criolla -Tongue in Creole Sauce.
Accompanied by a Colombiana, a.k.a. Colombian Irn Bru.
“This is most the romantic dinner we have ever been to, there’s a view and a man playing a piano, and you order tongue.”
Another pile of grilled meat, but this time with morcilla (black pudding) and a view.
Stopped at the roadside on our way to Paipa.
Bogotá at night.
In order to reduce congestion, Bogotá has a system called Pico y Placa (lit. peak [hour] and [license] plate). During rush hour on odd numbered days, vehicles with plates ending in an odd number are not allowed in the city. The same goes for even numbered plates on even numbered days.
This day was our placa so we had to stop at a bar looking down upon the city and wait for the end of rush hour. Here I drank an unnamed but expensive hot mocktail with very strong overtones of childhood hot squash.
