An accidental fall in the high lands of Natlan led you to a faint flash of black before phasing through the ground. It was like your life flashed before your eyes. A sudden change from falling to a completely different environment. As your head regained consciousness, you noticed you weren't in Natlan anymore. Your body laid flat on a cold stone floor. You tried to push yourself up into a sitting position to take in the sight of where you were. A dark, endless hallway stood in front of you, the only source of light being a flickering green. It was cold, like where you were was deserted. The measureless hum of the fluorescent green lights dug into your head. You let out a small grunt as you stood up on your feet, slowly making your way through the eerie hallway.
Your footsteps echoed in the empty hallway. The path felt like it was going on forever with no end. You finally reached an intersection, and you took the left direction. There were more sounds than just humming now. A few drips of liquid, small but calm footsteps, and a human-like whimper. Was someone here too? Are they okay? The voice shrieked then a loud SLASH was heard, followed by more sounds of dripping, then silence. You tried to get closer the source of those sounds. A dark black door with no door nob was to the right of you. It wasn't fully closed. You nervously peaked through the gap. Another green light was the only light source in the room. There was no furniture, no other doors, just empty, except for the horrible sight in front of you.
A figure stood with his back towards you with his head staring the floor. They looked like an exact splitting image of the man you knew from Natlan, Kinich. He held the exact same claymore as Kinich did, except it was now covered in a dark liquid. Your eyes followed where his eyes were looking.
It was a gruesome, fresh corpse.
The sight made you almost gag, but you tried to keep it in to prevent any noise from reaching "Kinich". But it was too late. He must've detected that someone was nearby, and in mere seconds, his green pixelated grappling hook took hold of your wrists and pulled your forward at quick speed. You were now face to face with him.
He looked just like the Kinich you knew. Dark hair with blue and yellow undertones, green headscarf, the blue-ish green jumper tied around his waist. It was all the same except for his eyes. His eyes were a pure black, void of emotion and light. His face held a dead expression with splatters of dark red. He stared a hole through you.
"I don't believe we've met." He spoke in that same calm voice you were familiar with, but this time it had an edge of threat.
"K-Kinich?" You called his name, "It's me..don't you remember me..?"
He squinted for a moment.
"I've never seen you before."
Your heart stopped. How does he not remember you? You and him were such close friends, how could he just forget like that? A wave of dread just washed over you.
"If you do not have any business with me, leave. I have stuff to get to." The grappling hook retreated, freeing your wrists from their tight bond. He turned his back on you, picking up the mutilated corpse and slinging it over his shoulder like a sack. His head turned over his shoulder for a moment before walking off towards the dark hallway, leaving behind his signature claymore.
When you noticed he was leaving, you felt like you needed to follow him. You needed him to remember you. None of this was normal at all. Your footsteps echoed off the dark walls as you catched up with "Kinich". He heard you from behind, but he didn't stop and turn to look.
"Why are you following me?" He asked like you were burdening him, but it really sounded like he didn't care if you followed him.
"Where..are we? And who are you really? Why..did you..kill.." Your voiced trailed off.
"You're speaking too much, be quiet." His voice cut you off, immediately sending you into silence.
At the end of the hallway, there was a pitch black hole on the floor. It was impossibly to tell how deep it was. "Kinich" dropped the dead corpse in the hole. There was no sound of it hitting a floor. He turned around to look at you with those black holes.
"They weren't quiet, so they ended up like that." He spoke so casually about a gruesome sight. He walked off again, so you followed behind him.
It felt like hours of walking through endless hallways and intersections. It was very odd how he was so calm and collected, despite the entire situation.
"This level isn't very long. If we continue through this hall we'll reach a safer area."
He informed you, looking over his shoulder for a moment while he traveled with you. You took this time to take in the surroundings. It was still same boring dark walls with green lights.
You reached the end of the hallway and entered through. It was a lot brighter with light blue walls with what looked like fake clouds. Your feet felt like it was sinking in grass, but when you looked closely it was synthetic grass.
"Kinich" paused his walking and stood still, looking up at the fake sky. He started to look less guarded than he was before, his shoulders dropping. He let out a small breath.
"Rest for a bit, I'll keep watch."
He spoke in a low voice, turning his head to look at you. There was nothing else in this room except for another door on the other side, just grass and a fake sky. You sat down on the flour, feeling the faux grass brushing against your thighs.
He took a bit of staring at you before sitting down himself. He still had a distance between you and him.
"I can tell you have many questions. Ask away."
You started with the first and biggest question:
"Where are we?"
"We're..between dimensions. There's no telling where we are exactly..but it's not Earth."
His sitting position was relaxed, one leg outstretched and the other bent, his forearm resting on his knee.
You moved on to the next question.
"Are you really Kinich?"
"That name doesn't exist."
He vaguely answered yet again.
"But how? You look and sound just like him.."
He didn't answer your statement. He kept his eyes on the grass, seeming to want to move on from your question.
"Just..rest now. Regain your energy for later. You'll need it."
He shut the rest of your questions down with just one sentence. You didn't want to argue with him now that you have seen what he's capable of. You laid down on your side in the faux grass, the blades softly pricking your skin.
He watched as your body sunk onto the floor, your eyes beginning to close. He didn't say anything as he waited for you to fall asleep.
It took you a while to completely fall asleep. The constant questions and anxiety spiraled in your head.
"Kinich" noticed your breathing had slowed as you were losing consciousness. He sighed, now holding a grim expression. He hated lying, he really did, especially to someone like you who was close to him. He had to lie. He had to forget who he used to be to survive here. He had to "kill" the Kinich you knew.
While he stared at your sleeping body, tv-like static began to fade into his vision slowly. His mind and sanity was slowly deteriorating the longer he was in these backrooms. It was slowly eating away at his brain like a parasite. The static was getting louder, and louder.
He closed his eyes, gripping his head as he grunted in pain. Everything was turned into static, the walls, the faux sky and grass, everything except for you. He could still see the past with you and him in Natlan, and now it's all gone. It's gone.
He didn't want to die here. He wanted to survive and make it out of here, but there were limited choices. There wasn't much he could do. The static was too much.
His voice trembled as he could only see a fraction of your body now.
"I'm sorry."

When we look back on sweet memories, what often follows is regret and pain
I waited for the third day with such agony, watching the scenes over and over again. Then I drew the scene where Khol and MC went to the arcade together
Julian probably released it according to US time, so I still have to wait another twelve hours 😭
This is just my color-adjusted version, not the original picture. The original one is in another post on the homepage
I might delete the post I made in the early morning and post it again tomorrow at noon
