//sticks leggy out real far 3 years later okay first of all: No, I’m not “making a triumphant return” or anything but I did want to kinda like… return to this blog very briefly for some hint of closure and say a few things to anyone who still has some weird sense of loyalty to my dumb ass and is still around.

I loved my experience on this blog so damn much, okay?

this is the one blog I find myself constantly looking back on over any other blog I’ve had. I’m able to see just from the posts and my interactions just how much fun I had here, and it’s the sort of fun I don’t think I’ve experienced on a blog in a really long time. When I feel down, I browse through everything here and am able to smile to myself and remember just how much enjoyment I felt because I was writing with such lovely, talented people and we all had so much fun (whether it be through the immense amount of crack that… honestly wasn’t even really crack or simply hanging out in Poldark streams together).

I loved it so much, fam. It’s one of those experiences I don’t think I can relive so much as just look back on wistfully, nostalgically; but whew it meant so much to me, okay? This blog, this character, all of you who wrote with me while I was here… CLUTCHES CHEST.

It’s a time passed, but a time i adore with all my being.

I hope any of you who were once writing with me are doing well (if you so happen to see this post), and if anyone wants to reconnect, shoot me an IM and we can exchange discord usernames. I’ll check back in a couple times before setting this blog to rest.

For herself, Thera wasn’t there to actually spy. She’d managed to avoid that throughout the American war, and wasn’t of any mind to commence it in peacetime - except, of course, keeping her ears peeled for any options or opportunities that might be worth looking into for placement of her money. It also wasn’t to say that she didn’t end up privy to gossip of the more scandalous kind along the way, but unless she knew (and disliked) the people spoken of she tended to set it all aside.

If she had been spying, however, it would seem her attempt to find a secluded and undisturbed vantage point was a failure. But then, it was only one fellow trying to share the space and, from the way he was clutching his glass he was trying for the exact same reason - an impression only enhanced by the quick glance and wry remark.

“Oh it’s … charming.” The tone of her own voice didn’t match his, but along with a smirk and the pause as she sought ‘the right word’ acknowledged and agreed. In truth, it immediately put her far more at ease than the false cheer and true bravado that had been the hallmark of the night. “If the drinks were not worthwhile, I’d be on my way home already.”

There’s a brief bridge of silence between them initially, though she is quick to engage his quip with an undeterred wit of her own; a subtle, still-polite sarcasm about her tongue that compliments the way the crooks of her lips upturn, somewhat impish. To an untrained eye, the way she then relaxes – however minute a change – may have gone unnoticed, but his profession has taught him to read physical cues, to gauge them. Dark eyes regard her in kind, merely a fleeting observation, nothing that pries or demands. Her gown is forged of cool pigments, pressed and kempt; an appealing reprieve to the bright, gaudy attire that made up the majority of the party. Dark tresses are drawn up in a tasteful style, simple but elegant, nothing overdone or tacky that seemed to be the normal fashion these days. By demeanor alone, he reckons he has found an ideal company – if only for a spared minute or two.

She confesses next that her true tie to the event is naught but the drinks they offer, the compliment to the spirit spoken in a way that pulls one edge of his mouth back in agreement. A mutual insight; he’s glad to know that he is not the only one who attends solely on account of the ale provided.

The tune that had previously been playing ends, composed of gentle harps; a calming melody. It gives way to something much more lively next, an onslaught of flutes and horns ensuing, drawing some of the couples lingering near the outskirts of the floor into the center, suddenly possessed. Oliver watches them quietly, giving way to another pause between himself and his newfound company. After a moment or two, he turns back to her, the quirk of his lip still unyieldingly set.

“Are you quite sure you stay only for the refreshment, and not for–––“ His gaze sweeps from her, briefly over the drunken crowd on the dance floor and then back to her, amused. “––the entertainment, as well?”

Oh, great Goddess … was there anyone even remotely interesting here? Sadly, Thera wasn’t currently believing so. Most of the attendees were busy puffing themselves up in front of each other, boasting about their latest accomplishments and gains - or alternatively, boasting to her, in the apparent firm belief that the size of their pocketbooks made up for the lack in their personalities.

Newsflash; it didn’t. To the point where she had to excuse herself with an expression that was part smile, part gritted teeth, and make a getaway across the room to somewhere out of the way. That hopefully had a good stiff drink.

He has never been... fond of these soirees, to conclude an understated soliloquy. They were trivial gatherings, a breeding ground for gossip and feigned friendships, connections that seemed more for business and show than they were forged from real attractions. The conversations were usually tongue in cheek, led with a carefully practiced formality that he, too, had been trained in for the later part of his life — a hard facade to behold, and even easier seen through by someone who’s looking.

Albeit, as the night dragged on and the attendees indulged, there was a certain degree of advantage one had when they we looking, listening. In his experience, the inebriated accounts spewed about events like these often proved to be the most incriminating, especially when pitted against his person of interest. These parties were nothing more than overtime in his opinion, a hunt for more evidence to compile.

Though, even an attorney may reach his wits end after hours of mind numbing chatter. And so he proceeds, unseen, to the nearest servant tending to those indulging. There is little time wasted on pretense as he puts in his request, and he’s satisfied thankfully quick with a hearty glass of ale. He takes one initial swig before settling back in to the crowd, stood beside an unfamiliar woman who, as it appeared, was enjoying the night as thoroughly as he was.

“Evening, madam.” He addresses her more out of curiosity than the desire for small talk, dark eyes flitting down to glimpse her drink in acknowledgement before they level her own once again, a note of refined sarcasm slipping into his timbre. “Enjoying the evening, I see.”
