'I grew up in a house walled in deep-toned wood, filled with antiques collected by my parents. This same space later became where I raised my child; today it is the place I call my studio. After school, my ritual was to sit by the television and choose from the mountain of videos my father, an avid archivist, had accumulated. I spent my days immersed in foreign films. At the living room table, my father was always writing or absorbed in his work. Lit by the glow of old bulbs, that room had a gloom that held a faint sense of unease- the perfect ambience for old cinema. Whenever I watched a horror film, I couldn't help but fear the darkness in the doorway behind me. That cluttered interior could feel like the scenery of a film set.

Those memories, and the lingering breath of that space, are woven into the fabric of my paintings.'
