New diagnosis unlocked: dermatographia! (This fucking sucks, if I even get a SCRATCH I break out in hives)

I can write on my arm and it’ll show up- it’s itchy as hell but it’s also really fucking cool-

Underappreciated disability aids!

- Stools/chairs - I use a stool to sit down in the kitchen because I can't stand for long periods, also shower stools/chairs that allow people sit down to shower

- Grab bars & rails - Help someone stand up/sit down or keep their balance as they walk

- Glasses - Heaps of people need glasses but people forget that they are an aid

- Grab sticks - Help people pick things up off the ground if they can't bend over

- Banana/sliding boards - Help people transfer between surfaces by sliding

- Hoist systems - Help people transfer between surfaces by being lifted and moved

- Adaptive grip tools - Help people with issues gripping to grab onto various items. These include adaptive grips for utensils, cups, stationary etc.

- Compression wear - Socks, gloves, stockings etc that provide compression to reduce various things including blood pooling, lymphoedema, pain etc.

Please add on other disability aids that deserve more awareness and appreciation!

bendy straws - helps people be able to drink without having to hold a drink and lift it up to their mouths - these can get really complex!! ive seen one that's entirely made up of detachable ball-joints so you can bend it however you need to (with limits to the flexibility of the ball-jointed straw)

blenders + food processors - helps people that need their food to be cut into smaller pieces, ground up, or puréed to prevent choking

liquid thickeners - helps people that need their drinks to be thickened to prevent choking

catheters & catheter bags - helps people pee, & contains the pee in a sterile bag with a sealable nozzle to empty it

colostomy bags - helps people poop, contains the poop in a sterile bag that clips on and off to change it, usually located around a person's abdomen

scoop bowls - helps people pick up their food, the sides are raised with one area that's taller than the rest so people can scoop their food up against the side of the bowl

mini whiteboards- helps people communicate with others if they have trouble with speaking/hearing

+ special mention- i know a guy who made card holders by cutting diagonal slits into 2 wood blocks so he and his friend could play card games together bc neither of them can hold cards. idk what category this would fall under but it's cool and i had to include it somehow
