“  i  can’t  get  over  how  pretty  everything  looks .  ”  the  gallagher  grounds  had  a  beauty  all  their  own  but  she  was  truly  in  awe  today .  “  and  the  food  ?  ah ,  it’s  hard  to  stay  away ,  i  keep  circling  round .  ”  sophie  says  with  a  laugh ,  she’s  not  complaining  when  it  tastes  so  good .

“– THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL!” He basically shouted, the eyes of his classmates falling on him and their professor’s glare so deadly that it could kill. The embarrassment and realization was setting in, Allister just dozed off in class. Turkish to be exactly, fuck. When everyone finally began to turn around, he looked over at Sophie. “Well that was embarrassing, how long was I sleeping?” 

there’s  a  blink  of  her  eyes  from  the  volume  alone ,  she  doesn’t  even  need  to  fully  turn  to  know  who  it  is ,  smallest  of  amused  smiles  threatening  to  show . “  only  about . .   seven  minutes .  ”  she’s  quite  good  with  time  tracking ,  that’s  probably  right . she  offers  him  a  pressed  smile  before  gesturing  to  the  professor .   “ i  don’t  think  they’d  have  minded  if  you  had  said  it  in  turkish .  ”

“i am a bit doubtful,” ting says, more cynically than she normally might, but the school kept the footage, so clearly it’s not something they cared about beyond keeping it hidden. “maybe if things get worse, which i hope they do not.”

there’s  a  gentle  press  of  the  blonde’s  lips .  “  i  can’t  think  of  how  it  could  get  much  worse . ”  the  contents  of  that  video  were  horrific  to  say  the  least ,  was  there  worse  things  than  that  ?   “  do  you  think  they’re  going  to  find  out  who  leaked  it  ?  ”

“Oh, so the hackers know my and Scott’s birthday is on April 14. I wonder if they’ll come to our birthday party.” He can’t imagine his school record holds anything but basic information. “Do you wanna come to my birthday party? There’s going to be daiquiris and compliments.” He smiles.

brows  lift  gently  in  surprise  that  that’s  what  he’s  wondering  about ,  though  she  likes  scott  from  what  she  knows  from  luce .  “ oh ,  sure .  that  actually  sounds  like  the  perfect  kind  of  party .  ”  sophie  smiles  back .  “  where  are  you  having  it  ?  ”

this is the part he hates because, aside from the look in her eyes, he’s not very good at it since he’d spent the better part of his life only looking out for himself. he moves to sit next to her, softening a little. “ well, he did kill one of their nearest and dearest. also a fuckin’ terrorist. he would’ve died regardless. ” is what he believes which is why had he been there, he would’ve stopped mary. not because he gives a fuck about cecil, but more so her. “ what’s goin’ through your head? ”

he  would’ve  died  regardless  —  it  doesn’t  actually  make  her  feel  any  better ,  instead  wondering  why  she  still  feels  bad  for  a  terrorist  and  murderer  . she  just  thinks  killing  is  wrong ,  full  stop .  but  is  murdering  a  murderer  the  exception  ?  “   i ..  don’t  know  what  i  think . ”  which  is  weird ,  she’s  usually  quite  decisive ,  logical ,  able  to  figure  things  out  with  ease  but  this  is  something  that  she’s  confused  about  from  all  angles ;  her  chest  just  feels  tight .  “  i  just  don’t  know  what  .  . like ,  ”  she  pauses ,  almost  frustrated  trying  to  get  the  words  out .  “ what  could  make  someone  actually  . . . kill  someone else .  ”

“I don’t know. What kind of information does one get from servers?” He asks, eating from a jello cup. Denis doesn’t know much about hacking but he does know information is important.

“ i  assume  . .  whatever’s  on  the  server .  “  sophie  responds ,  though  is  quick  to  add  a  shrug  as  she’s  not  even  sure  herself.  “  all  the  student  information ,  i guess.  ”

– THERE’S A SMALL SMILE THAT REACHES ANYA’S LIPS, relief that she’s not awake all on her own right now. she should’ve known that they’d probably be on the same page about this ; and it’s not like they haven’t had sleepovers before, but this is different. she’s really glad that sophie’s here. “ that means no, ” anya answers quietly. “ but we’re usually so good at it, ” she adds, “ so i don’t think ONE night should mean that we’re failures. we just won’t count this one. ” doe eyes are wide and a bit vulnerable as she nods in response to sophie’s question, because all things considered, she is OKAY. she’s warm under the blankets, safe, she has people that care for her. “ yeah. still a bit shaken up, i guess. it’s one thing to know the consequences of our future, and another to…you know, see it like that. ” she doesn’t know. maybe she’s not cut out for this like she thought she could be. 

there’s  a  smile  in  response  to  anya’s  defence  of  them  —  they’re  usually  great  at  them ,  fast  asleep  once  all  the  talking  was  out  of  their  systems  or  the  credits  of  whatever  movie  they  decided  to  watch  were  rolling .  “ alright ,  we  won’t  count  it ,  ” she’s  quick  to  agree ,  if  for  nothing  other  than  to  be  on  anya’s  side .  “  we  can  always  have  a  do-over  if  we  want .  ”  she  offers ,  and  even  if  their  next  one  is  just  the  same ,  she’ll  try  again .  sophie  sometimes  wonders  if  she  made  the  right  choice  coming  to  gallagher  and  the  recent  leaks  have  her  doubting  herself ,  but  she  can’t  think  about  not  having  anya  in  her  life ,  a  gentle  nod  as  she  listens .  she  doesn’t  think  she’s  cut  out  for  this ,  thankful  for  the  opportunity  of  gallagher  but  unsure  if  she’ll  ever  welcome  this  becoming  her  normal .   “ i  just  can’t . . imagine  ever  doing  that .  to  anyone . ”  sophie  says ,  a  small  shake  of  her  head .   “  we  don’t  have  to  talk  about  it .  ”

“  do  you  think  they’ll  cancel  classes  or  anything ?  ”  maybe  they’d  have  already  done  it  if  so — but  there’s  definitely  a  weird  vibe  among  the  students  and  a  break  wouldn’t  hurt.

she  goes  to  reach  up  for  a  particular  book  a  little  high  on  the  shelf — hand  bashing  against  another  as  she  quickly  pulls  hers  away,  turning  to  the  other.  “  oh  !  i’m  sorry ,   you  go  ahead  and  take  it.  ”

sophie  makes  her  way  over  to  the  other  blonde ,  everything  has  been  off  at  school  since  the  video  leaked ,  one  she  hasn’t  even  seen  fully — it’s  for  the  best.  “  hey ,  ”  she  smiles  softly .  “  can  we  hang  out  today  ?  ”  she’s  in  desperate  need  for  some  normalcy.

he thinks that’s fairly obvious from the title of the email, but maybe sophie’s asking for more detail, which, in that case, he’s reluctant to answer. “ they all sit in a line and plait each other’s hair, ” he deadpans, grabbing her laptop to delete the email. sophie doesn’t need to be more scared than she is, and mary doesn’t need another pair of eyes looking at her like that, but he figures she’s going to hear about it one way or another. so, he looks up, meeting her gaze. a pause. he shrugs, then says flatly, “ they kill him. ” 

sometimes  she  thinks  he  still  thinks  she’s  a  kid ,  unable  to  handle  anything  and  one  wrong  thing  away  from  tears  in  her  eyes .  he’s  right  though ,  she  can’t  actually  imagine  watching  that  and  her  curiosity  doesn’t  outweigh  her  sense .  “  don’t joke right now . ” sophie  tells  him ,  though  maybe  she  should  have  been  more  specific .  “ how  ?  wh—why  would  they  do  that  ?  ”  brows  furrow  a  bit ,  her  pacifism   showing  a  bit .

“I think it must feel pretty badass, to hack into the system of a school that’s never had something like that happen before.” Of course that’s easier for him to say because he doesn’t have any real ties to the school or the students. “Yeah, that would be kind of backwards.” 

“ I THINK SO TOO ! I WONDER IF THEY’RE PROUD OR SCARED RIGHT NOW.  ” and she’s not usually a rule breaker but this is such a feat that it becomes an exception, sort of hoping whoever it is doesn’t get told off.  “ maybe it’ll just be a slap on the wrist for whoever deals with all the security, rather than those who broke in. ”

       “i’m sure the thing they are more worried about are the skeletons hiding in the closet. or the server, i guess.” he responds, as if he didn’t have any. well, he didn’t have any big or revolting ones. or at least, that’s what he liked to think. “well now they gotta make it better since someone breached this level. it’s like candy crush. or when games put out updates.”

SOPHIE PAUSES, a slow glance away while she considers what skeletons could be in the closets of not only the school but it’s pupil’s and faculty’s as well. probably actual ones. “ skeletons in the server, ” she nods, as if she understands the capabilities of what information the server contained. there’s a small smile at the candy crush comparison. “ do you think they’ll find out who it was ? ”

        “both good and bad, i presume.” she responds, scrolling through spotify and adding songs that seemed interesting to an empty playlist. “i mean, it feels like somebody breaking into a bank, if you ask me. but instead of money, it’s information about the students.” 

“ YEAH, I THINK SO. ” it definitely depended on who was on which side of it all. she wouldn’t like to be hacked but she could appreciate the skill required to do it. elisa’s comparison stalls her slightly, for a bank robbery definitely isn’t good but, again, she thinks it depends on who’s getting the money. “ what would someone do with that kind of thing, though ? like . . blackmail or leverage, maybe ? ” she can only imagine what members of spy families have in their files, but even then it’s limited for she truly has no idea.
