The gym leader briefly allowed a faintly fond smile to agree, agreeing with the sentiments. His friend also had a knack for researching and for teaching others, it had been a surprise when Birch expressed to be a Professor instead of a teacher. Yet, some how it wound up for the better.

“Now, when am I ever not sure?” The professor chuckled wryly, presses them into his hand. “I take little stock in hearing gossip when it comes to men like you - but I’ve never failed to hear a positive word about you - despite your rather rocky relationship.” He doesn’t add much further to that statement - Surely Norman knew who he referred to.

“Please. It’s the least I can do, if you had to travel all this way for Birch.”

“Birch does always strives to do his best to look after the little guys,” Norman commented with a faint smile, while his friend had a habit of running off every now and then; the man had such a big heart when it came to Pokemon. Always treating them gently and making certain that they had been well taken careful.

“Absentmindedness aside, he’s always been a spectacular professor.” He agreed, smiling. “Which reminds me - I’ve heard you were fond of Normal type Pokemon.” He stands wearily, his joints protesting briefly as he makes his way over to his Pokemon table. He returns, offers the pokeballs out. “I have an Eevee, a Tauros, and a Porygon here - you can have all of them, if you’d like - these ones have expressed a desire to adventure.”

“Just brought supplies, n’ that’s it.” Scarlet shrugs. A small hand grabs a slice of the pizza and begins to eat. It’s been awhile since she’s had something that isn’t instant ramen. Scarlet finds it rather refreshing. Her gray eyes look up towards the professor, but quickly looks away. “I don’t know where I’m going…”

“That’s perfectly alright Scarlet.” He smiled, pushes a napkin over her way, before sitting down. “If you’d like, I can take a look into some regions where your fame will not be an issue? The Ferrum region is actually quite interesting - you don’t have to battle there, but you’re less likely to be recognized there.”

     The Azurill’s initial reaction was to flinch away from the man and cower behind its trainer more. “Its ok Azurill don’t be scared. This man is a Pokemon professor! He won’t hurt you!” With Kelly’s encouragement, Azurill peaked its head out from behind her legs and sniffed at the professor’s hand as the other Pokemon in the room watched the, closely.

“Quite shy, I see.” He chuckled, slowly opening his hand so the little Pokemon could see he wasn’t holding anything in it. “How long have you two been partners?” He asked kindly, smiling down at the little Azurill with fond amusement. They seemed to be together for quite some time, if they were so close.

“Thank you, Professor.” Scarlet says with a tired tone in her voice. She accepts the gesture and sits down. “Been doing alright. Your grandson’s been a help with Mt. Silver.” He did bring extra supplies every month. Well, the Professor’s right about one thing, Scarlet is quite thin. “No, not at all. Pizza would be nice, actually…”

“Has he?” The professor has to admit to his surprise - with how often Green behaved himself like a baby Mankey, he was surprised that his wayward grandchild had the patience to come up and take care of Scarlet. “That’s good to hear - I was worried you weren’t getting much social interaction and Green’s... Well, he’s something.” That was nice and noncommittal, wasn’t it? He shakes his head a little, before handing her a paper plate loaded with a few slices. “Eat up dear, you need to eat as much as you can before your journey back up Mt. Silver - unless you were thinking of taking a trip somewhere? Kalos has plenty of lovely places to stop by.”

The gym leader gave a nod of confirmation. 

“That is true,” Norman sighed shaking his head. “He’s been that way ever since the two of us have been kids, always running off and getting himself straight into trouble without stopping to think of the consequences and those around him.” 

At least it had been good to know that he had not been the only one to suffer from Birch’s habits. 

“I’m thinking about it,” The gym leader admitted dryly with a slight laugh. “Oh this?” Holding up the suitcase. “This is the Starters you requested from Birch; correct? Torchic, Mudkip and Treecko. All three are present and accounted for.”

The professor raised an eyebrow, before he chuckled lightly at the young man and after a moment, he frees another chair of paperwork so the gym leader can rest his weary feet. He carefully releases the Torchic first, and it tilts a head at him, chirping gleefully. He lets it snuggle into his hand, chirp a greeting to Norman, before he releases the Mudkip, who simply stretches out and flops into the desk, makes a warbling noise. And of course, the Treeko just sits there, tries to scratch out a twig to chew on.

“They’re certainly in fine condition.” The professor agreed, admiring them all.

“... Red, what a surprise!” The professor exclaimed cheerfully. “It’s been quite some time since I last saw you - how have you been?” He asked, already pulling up a seat for the quiet young woman. “Have you been working yourself to death up on Mt. Silver?” He questioned, taking in her features with a little frown. “Heavens, you need to get something to eat - I think I have some stuff for you to eat. You don’t mind some pizza, do you?”

Professor Yukinari has offered @scarletshadesofvictory a meal and conversation.

     The girls Pokemon all surrounded the man curiously, all except for the Azurill who instead hid behind its trainers legs. “A Cleffa! Oh wow! Thank you so much! Azurill you will have another baby Pokemon to play with!” She said addressing the small cowering Pokemon behind her.

The professor noticed the way the tiny Azurill, kneeling very carefully to make himself smaller - offering his hand kindly out to the small creature. “I’m sure you’ll both enjoy her company,” He agreed, slowly extending his hand out to the pokemon. “Hello little one.”

     Kelly jumped up and went to answer the door. She looked up and saw the older man and smiled. “No way! I won the contest?” Kelly bounced slightly and her Pokemon crowded around her. “Come in! Come in!”

Well. At least her enthusiasm was refreshing. “You did.” He agreed with a half-smile at her, accepting the invitation with an easy grace. Stepping inside, he waits until the door closes behind him, and he offers the pokeball. “Inside is a little Cleffa. Treat her well.”

“You might have too much free time if you do that,” He muttered, amused at the mention. “Why did you challenge Lance so early in the morning anyways? It doesn’t seem your style.”

The woman pointed down the hall, “Um I think she is the third door on your left…”

Kelly WAS in the third room on the left, she had all of her Pokemon out and they were eating happily. Kelly was brushing Sylveon as it ate and was humming as she did so. “You must have been hungry! Is it good? We will have to go get more soon. I have to make sure to feed you all.”

“Thank you.” He muttered, slogging slowly through the hall. “Next time I’ll make Blue deliver the Cleffa,” He muttered under his breath, glaring slightly at the carpet. Why were all the stairs in Kalos so high? He wasn’t as young as he used to be.

He ignored the snide voice in his head that said he’d never been young, knocking on the door. “Miss Kellane, I’m Professor Oak, of Kanto - I came to deliver your prize from the contest.”

Everything was far too pastel for his liking. What happened to the nice plum velvet tapestries and wine-red carpets of his past? That was style. Finally, he stumbled into a room, and he pointed a slightly accusing finger at the woman there.

“You there... Please tell me I’m close to the third floor. I have a Pokemon to trade for a Kellane Beaumont.”

“Hello again, Professor.” 

A tired look appeared upon his lips holding a small suitcase and brought it before the older man. “Once again I apologize for Birch. It seems that once again, my friend had decided to run off to do research…. without informing his staff.” 

“I’m sorry for the inconvenience once more.”

“Ah... Norman, wasn’t it?” He looked up from the thick stack of paper and snorted. “Don’t worry about it. Birch has always been in the habit of running off like a Torchic with it’s head cut off.” He rolled his eyes. “If you’re concerned about his inability to hold still, I’d advise putting a GPS in his shoes. That ought to help you track him down.”

He’s used to it. Like always. But he accepts the suitcase, putting it on the only clear spot on his desk. “What’s this?”

“I just wanted to know if you’ve croaked yet old man.” Blue tells him. Being an asshole ran in the family. “And I won the championship again.”

“Ha ha. If I’d croaked child, you’d hear Agatha screaming in joy from the Plateau.” The implicit duh was left out, of course. The news of course, did make him sit up.

“Again?” He’s more amused than he is exasperated. Only Blue. “Arceus above, wasn’t stomping on Lance’s ego once enough?”

His eyes narrowed slightly and quickly to type away at the keyboard bypassing all of the security and paused. “Wait….”

“What did you find?” The professor moved his chair over, scowling a little. Heavens - it was bad enough he had to work through his holiday, but there was a line. Emergencies for the League were nightmarishly annoying. Was it perhaps a rogue porygon?
