Highschool Mayumiko Headcannons!
Or: the brainrot that has been eating away at my brain cells for weeks on end that no one asked for or prompted :)
The art for this can be consumed just as regular mayumiko hc's bc they don't really hold any continuous narrative, but it just tickles a very specific part of my brain to see them aged up like this. Most of these hc's are also still in baby dot point forms because I don't have the power to manifest them into something with more thoughts yet... (I don't want to make little mayumiko comics... but the voices.. the voices tell me to...)

3st year at Roman High School
Now that he's a senior, Mikoto feels that he should be more confident and relaxed (and also more sure about these feelings he's trying to figure out), but his tendencies to get embarrassed easily seems like they are here to stay.
Doesn't quite understand how Mayu got EVEN TALLER from when he was in middle school (seriously what is that kid eating...)

Mikoto quickly got to know Kobayashi and Mayu's new friends from Judo club from seeing them at times when he'd wait for Mayu outside the gym for him to finish practice. He's tried to see if he can make Mayu even a little red by imitating Kobayashi ("How was school today, Maa-kun? :3), but Mayu didn't really react and actually told him he would not like to be addressed like that. ("Maybe I should've known... Mayu's probably been friends with Kobayashi for way longer and the nickname is reserved for people he's closer to...")
Mikoto is glad of course that Mayu is making new friends at high school and have more space to grow his passion for Judo, so he's really trying to push down the voices that keeps saying Mayu won't want to hang out with him anymore now that he's around more people, or that Mayu just sees him as "older brother's friend". The years between them in this new senpai-kouhai relationship makes him feel a little bit more lonely than he'd like to admit.
Mikoto has an album of pictures of when Mayu sleeps next to him at lunch break or when he's playing video games or when he's helping Umetarou with his draft or... (you get the point). The resemblence to Noir, the black cat he has at home, is uncanny, apart from the part where Mayu is almost 190cm and can probably eat him for breakfast if he is a feline animal of that size.
1st year at Roman High School
On the first day of high school Mayu got stopped by at least both the basketball club and the volleyball club thanks to his Nozaki genestm by very passionate seniors (that probably also tried to scout Umetarou), but that didn't stop him from making a beeline for the Judo club.
Isn't a biggest fan of the fact that the uniform includes a tie (troublesome).
Although it's nice that he's now again a junior compared to the older kids at high school and gets to be doted on by his senpai's, Mayu also feels like the senpai-kouhai relationship put up more distance between him and Mikoto. Mayu wonders if Mikoto just sees him as the little brother of a friend, or his junior at school. He wants Mikoto to know that he can also be relied on and dependable.
Mayu is sure that he likes Mikoto-san, probably more than the average person can tell. He enjoys the time they spend together, the way Mikoto would usually let him get away with anything if he stares at him long enough, that Mikoto buys him food, the way that Mikoto rambles on about galges and shoujo-manga and things that he likes, and the way he gets red so eaily. But it's troublesome to try to predict what will happen to their relationship if he speaks these feelings out loud, so he is sitting on them for now.
Mayu doesn't tell Mikoto that the reason why he won't let him say Maa-kun is because he secretly really likes how when Mikoto-san say Mayu, it looks like he is pouting his lips for a kiss* and that's also why he stares.

Since Mayu started going to Roman HS...
Takes the train home/walk together on days when Mikoto isn't going to Nozaki's for manga help
Mikoto dragging Mayu along on his otaku adventures at the mall buying figurines and anime merch (at a cost of a sweet treat every time)
Mikoto always coming to see Mayu's Judo matches ("Anything for my beloved kouhai! And for school spirit of c-course, no personal reasons...")
Kobayashi and the team gets jealous at the crowd of fangirls that starts to form outside the gym in support of Mayu and tells them a harmless little lie (without knowing) that Mayu is actually already seeing someone, namely the red-haired senior that always waits for him after practice. This spirals into a rumour that grows beyond the Judo club and results in a very panicked Nozachiyo for different reasons ("No Nozaki-kun you can't grill your little brother for details about his relationship for the manga!!")
These have no narrative importance. I just can't stop thinking about Mayumiko height difference. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I've been dying to draw this since the volume (13?? 14?? 16?? I cannot for the life of me find it when writing this) bonus with middle school nozachiyo chance meeting on the train.

That's probably the bulk of the rant I have for now but I have a few more hc's that I'll post if I find the time to draw them. If this scratches an itch in anyone's brain feel free to take it and run with it and make anything else. I would also like to advertise here again that I am once again in need of your supporttm (read: I really want new Mayumiko fanfics to read) and I would love to do art trades for fics.
