In which Matt takes you to the farmers market so you can shop instead of running a booth! ( a part of my ‘miss american pie’ au! but can be read separately of course )

The blinding light of sun rays filtering through the half opened blinds was more than enough to keep you awake. After ten minutes of protesting your tiredness with tossing and turning in repeated attempts to get comfortable, you accepted it wasn’t going to work and sat up. A large yawn escaped your lips, your arms stretching over your head as you attempted to prepare for whatever ‘adventure’ awaited today. The buzzing of your phone made you stop, you leaned over the bed to pick it up off your nightstand. A message from Matt. The boy you’d met a few weeks ago at the market. It really wasn’t to out of the ordinary, you had had many conversations with him over the past weeks. You opened your phone to read his message.
A small smile spread across your face. Almost feeling silly for the amount of excitement you had. After nearly an hour of digging through your closet you decided on an outfit. Your room was beyond a mess. Clothes and jewelry strewn everywhere. You anxiously checked your watch nearly twenty times in the five minutes that took place from you being ready to Matt showing up. The familiar sound of a van pulling up to your driveway made you practically leap off of the couch. You hurried to the door and opened it, waving at Matt as he trailed up the driveway. He grinned, brandishing a worn Polaroid camera in one hand. He stood infornt of you, still grinning. He shifted his weight and nodded towards his car.
“Are you ready?” He asked. You couldn’t help the wide smile on your face as you nodded eagerly.
“Yeah.” you replied, somehow managing to contain your excitement for a moment.
A banner hung above them that read “Farmers Market”. you practically dragged Matt in, eagerly making your way towards the lemonade stand at the front. You gasped and pointed at the bright blue drink labeled “shark attack” ,
“Get me that one, please” Matt laughed as he handed you a few crumpled dollar bills he had found in his pocket, enough for you buy the drinks you wanted as well. Almost instantly, the vendor grabbed two cups, filling one with the blue liquid. The smell of citrus clung stubbornly to your hands. You two started towards the other stalls. The glanced over towards Matt for a moment.
“How long are you staying here?” You questioned. “Just until the end of summer.” Matt’s mouth twitched as he glanced down. You frowned slightly at the response. There were many things that you could’ve said but “Oh.” Was the word that escaped your mouth. Matt noticed your slightly different look, “hey. We still got a few more weeks. That’s plenty of time” he assured. “And after that you know you can always visit California, and we could hang out or do something with my brothers.” You smiled slightly and nodded, following behind him as he looked through the fruit vendor. You’d only known him for three weeks. But it felt like more. You had gotten his number, met his brothers, hung out with all of them a couple times, and learned things about Matt. Sure, it was rather surface level, but it still meant something to you.
“Oh those look so good” Matt’s voice snapped you out of your trance of thoughts. You looked over to see him pointing at a basket of strawberries. You walked over together, reaching for the ripest ones on display while exchanging shy smiles. After another half hour of strolling through and poking around at vendors you decided to call it a day. You left the market each cradling a brown paper bag stuffed with fresh fruit. You decided to break the silence, “so, are you going anywhere tomorrow?” Matt thought for a moment. “I don’t think so.” You grinned, “well, if you feel up to it, there’s a record and thrift store downtown.” . Matt’s eyes brightened, nodding before asking, “What time should I meet you?” Your brows furrowed in concentration, “maybe noon?”. Matt quickly agreed, pulling out his phone to set an alarm. “Perfect.” You felt a quick flutter of anticipation as you watched Matt grin down at his phone, your mind already skipping ahead to what tomorrow would entail. Once you arrived at your house you stepped out of the car and grabbed your bags. You waved, “goodbye, Matt!” He waved back at you and smiled, making sure you got inside before pulling off. You couldn’t help the grin that spread across your face when you got inside. *It’s just a friend. * you told yourself. But it didn’t calm the fluttering feeling in your stomach. You pulled out your phone and remembered to send Matt the photos you took.
Authors note - sorry guys if this sucks and I know it’s taking place in the same setting but I promise the next one will be a slight change of pace and just a little hint that the next one is loosely inspired by 500 days of summer . . . And there’s gonna be a wee bit of angst hahahaha
