it was supposed to be a peaceful morning. key word: supposed. you had gone to bed eager, staring at the date for the next day on the calendar. june 1st, the start of pride month. after years of the biphobia you'd experienced, you finally felt comfortable accepting that you were still just as valid while dating a man, and had fallen asleep excited for your first pride where you had fully accepted yourself.
hence why you were slightly grumpy when you were pulled out of your restful sleep by the sounds of the smoke alarm and born this way by lady gaga blasting from your kitchen. whatever was going on had chris' name written all over it and your suspicions were confirmed when you noticed your boyfriend wasn't in bed beside you.
you rolled out of bed, tugging on a pair of shorts under chris' oversized shirt you'd worn to sleep. "chris, what the fuck are you doing?" you called as you hurried up the stairs.
even with the urgent beeping of the smoke alarm, you paused and pulled out your phone to record when you rounded the corner to the kitchen. chris was in a shirt that read "i ❤️ my hot bisexual girlfriend" with a variety of rainbow colored necklaces hanging around his neck, desperately fanning the pile of burned, rainbow pancakes that had collected in a frying pan on the stove. from the speaker on the counter, lady gaga switched to chappell roan and you practically doubled over laughing.
"it's not funny!" your boyfriend protested, trying to clear the smoke.
you snorted, putting your phone away and going to turn off the speaker. "it's a little funny. what were you even doing?"
"i was trying to do something nice for you for pride. . .but i ruined it." chris grumbled, dumping the charred pancakes in the trash.
your heart melted. chris had never made you being bi weird. in fact, he had always been one of your biggest supporters. you pecked your boyfriend on the cheek, moving to open the window and let some of the smoke out. "you didn't ruin anything, babe. i appreciate the gesture."
"you'll get rainbow pancakes another day." chris hummed, wrapping his arms around you from behind.
slowly, the smoke alarm switched off as the smoke cleared from the kitchen, leaving a flustered chris in its wake and you staring into the fridge. living with three brothers, actual meals to eat were few and far between.
"you know. . ." you said. "you could doordash your favorite gay person dunkin' instead."
"nick isn't awake." chris teased.
"you know who i was talking about," you flicked your boyfriend's nose. "you're required to be nice to me all month."
"don't push your luck," chris snorted, but nevertheless opened his phone and ordered your favorite iced coffee and donut. "happy pride, baby."

"Come here, girl," matt called out, he was in the living room, sitting on the couch staring at his phone. You walked in, wearing his t-shirt and boxers. Matt looked up at you, scanning what you were wearing, "hmm, come here," matt called you over, you walked over to him, standing in front of him with a little smile on your face. "Let's see, collar is on," matt reached up, grabbing you by your collar and pulling you down to be face to face with him, making you gasp. "But what's missing?" He asked, looking at your hair then back down at you.
"Matt.. I don't like them.." you whimpered softly, face flushing with embarrassment. "Oh? You don't like them? You seemed to like them last time, puppy girl," matt said, smirking at your embarrassment, his cock stirring in his sweats. "Go put them on, be a good girl." He let go of your collar waving you off and giving you no option to fight it. You drug your feet back to the bedroom, you hated that he made you wear the dumb puppy ears, but you knew why he did it. A form of degradation that you would never admit you liked.
You grabbed the ears, putting them on and fixing your hair before coming back to the living room. Matt looked up from his phone and smiled, "good girl! You want a treat?" Matt asked, speaking to you like you were his own personal puppy. You blushed, looking down, feeling shy but the wetness grew between your legs. "Come here, good girls deserve treats don't they?" Matt asked as you walked over. You nodded and matt pointed to the ground, a silent command. You dropped down to your knees, looking up at him as he placed his hands on your head, petting your head. "Speak puppy," matt smirked.
You clenched your jaw, looking down as embarrassment flooded your body and you got wetter with each word. "Come on, be a good girl and speak," matt commanded. You gulped, letting out a little bark making matt chuckled. You groaned, covering your face with your hands. "Hey, no, bad puppy, no covering that pretty face, speak again," matt said, grabbing your wrists and moving them off your face. "Speak." He commanded once more. You let out another weak bark making matt chuckled.
"Good girl, let's get you your treat, yeah?" Matt said, letting go of your wrists. Matt brought his hands to his sweats, letting you watch as he pulled his cock free. You licked your lips absentmindedly. Matt smirked, giving himself a few strokes before making a come hither motion with his fingers for you to get between his legs. You moved, situating yourself between his legs. "Remember, puppy's don't use hands do they?" Matt asked and you shook your head, putting your hands behind your back.
Matt held his cock up as you leaned down, swirling your tongue around his tip. He was about to chastise you for teasing but then you wrapped your lips around his cock and he moaned out. "Oh good girl," he moaned out, placing his free hand on your head, keeping your ears in place and helping you set a pace moving up and down. You bobbed your head, "eye contact puppy," matt reminded. You looked up at him through your lashes as he pushed you down, making you gag as he hit the back of your throat. Tears brimmed in your eyes as he repeatedly hit the back of your throat making you struggle to keep your eyes open.
"Fuck-" matt groaned, throwing his head back but only for a moment before wanting to watch you as you sucked him off. "Good fucking girl, keep going, gag on my fucking cock," matt said through gritted teeth, bucking up into your mouth. He began to fuck your mouth, you gagged but stayed still. You knew if you needed to stop you had a way to do it but you didn't want to stop. Wetness pooled in your panties, you squeezed your thighs together. "Fuck- gonna cum in this pretty mouth, you gonna swallow your treat puppy? Like a good fucking girl?" matt said, holding you in place.
He gave one final thrust, moaning out your name as he came down your throat. He pulled you off, you swallowed coughing slightly before opening your mouth, sticking your tongue out to show you swallowed it all. "Good puppy! Took your treat so well, didn't you?" Matt said, ruffling your hair making you whimper. "What's wrong puppy?" Matt asked, giving you a sympathetic pout as you looked up at him with those puppy dog eyes. "Oh, puppy wants to get off too doesn't she?" Matt asked and you nodded. His sympathetic pout turned into a smile, "oh puppy, come on, let's get you off," he grabbed your hands, pulling you up.
He grabbed your hips, pulling you to straddle his thigh making you whine, you didn't wanna do all the work. "Puppy, you either get to use my thigh or my shoe so which do you want?" Matt asked, holding your hips in place. "Thigh," you whimpered. "Alright, then go ahead puppy," matt let go of your hips, putting his hands behind his head as he leaned back against the couch to watch you. You pouted but started moving your hips, dragging your clothed heat over his thigh making you whimper. You placed your hands on him, starting to set a pace as you ground against his thigh.
You began to moan, rutting on his thigh like a dog in heat just how he liked it. Watching as you humiliated yourself to get off. "You're gonna remember to ask, right puppy?" Matt asked and you nodded, face contorted in focus as you worked on getting yourself off. You moaned louder, your clit repeatedly being rubbed against his clothed thigh making your orgasm bubble up inside of you. You kept going, making yourself closer, "c-can I-" you whimpered, throwing your head back. "Can you what puppy?" Matt asked, grabbing your chin to make you look at him. "Can I- can I cum?" You asked and matt smirked. "What if I say no?" He asked making you whine and slow down. He grabbed your hips speeding you back up. "You can cum puppy, you've been so good," matt said.
Finally, you came, moaning out matts name as he helped your hips keep moving till you rode out your high. Finally, he stilled you, "Good puppy, you did so well for me," matt said, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into a tight hug. You cuddled into his chest with a smile, "thank you," you said softly. "You're welcome puppy, my good good girl." Matt said, kissing the top of your head.

You stood there, staring down at your body in the bed. You were confused at first but then pissed. You died. You seriously fucking died in your sleep? Now you stood there staring at your body as you waited for someone to find you. You didn't know why your spirit stayed behind, but now you were a ghost, trapped in this fucking house.
Time moved weirdly, some days it moved fast, when the house was empty you never knew what time it was and since your family moved out, leaving your ghost behind, you never knew what time it was. Windows shut and no clocks anywhere in sight. You spent a lot of time in your room, just sitting, waiting for time to pass, for someone to move in to keep you company or give you entertainment. The afterlife was lonely, except for random ghosts that stopped in every now and then, through mirror portals in the bathroom. Some ghosts were nice, some disgusting and horrifying but no one ever stayed, it was just a stop in others ghosts journeys. You spent a lot of time staring in those mirrors, listening into the void at all the voices that called out, but you never wanted to leave. This was home after all.
Then a family moved in, 3 brothers, triplets. Matt drew the short straw, your room. He had heard of what happened in the house but you didn't exactly haunt people. you just hung out, your spirit wasn't negative, you didn't like to flicker lights or fuck with people. Either way matt was wary, he saged the room, thanks to the advice of his friends Sam and Colby, but the sage did nothing to you. It just made the room smell but you watched as it drove off the darker spirits. They hissed and ran back into the mirror scurrying away from the sage which you found interesting.
Matt settled in, time seemed to slow down again. You spent a lot of time watching Matt. He liked being in his room, writing in a journal and playing video games. When he'd leave his room, time would speed up again it seemed. It was like a fast forward till he came back. Then time slowed and you were with him, watching and observing. He seemed nice, quiet, he brought a warmth to the room that you enjoyed. He was like a warm light in the darkness of the afterlife.
You laid on his bed, it wasn't bad, but you missed your old soft pink sheets. Matt was in the bathroom, taking a shower. You stared at the ceiling fan, watching it spin and spin and spin. You missed the feeling of cool air on your skin, but everything just felt cold now. The bathroom door opened, then a piercing scream, making you startle. Matt was staring at you, clutching onto the towel around his waist. "Who are you?!" He yelled at you, "get out!" He screamed, looking around like he was looking for a weapon.
You stared at him, there was no way he was talking to you. You were dead. A ghost. Not living. He shouldn't be able to see you. "Why are you just staring?! Who are you?!" Matt was still yelling at you. But you were more confused than ever, laying on his bed in the pajamas with dogs on them that you died in. "I- uh.." you started but what were you supposed to say, how do you explain to him that you're just some dead girl in his room. Matt stared at you and you stared back. "Get out!" He yelled again.
You nodded, slowly getting up. You walked to the door, staring at it. "What're you doing? Get out!" Matt said, "I can't," you said. "You can't leave? Open the fucking door and leave!" Matt said like it was the most obvious thing ever. You reached for the handle but your hand just went through it. Matt's eyes widened, "what- what are you?" He asked and you looked down. "Spirit? Ghost? Whatever you wanna call it. I- I don't know why you can see me," you said, turning to face him.
His face turned pale, he was staring at a ghost, a real ghost. He had done ghost hurting with Sam and Colby and his brothers but nothing felt as real as this. "You're the- the girl... you-" he started and you nodded. "Yeah, I died here.. and now I can't leave.." you said, but to be fair it's not like you wanted to leave. "I saged the place, why didn't that get rid of you? Sam and Colby said it'd help." Matt said, still standing there, holding his towel and slightly shaking in fear now. "Well.. I mean it got rid of the darker spirits so.. it helped?" You said, trying to help him feel better for whatever reason, he seemed nice enough.
"Oh that's great! So there's demons here too! You know they should put that on the listing," Matt groaned, making you giggle. "You have two mirrors facing each other, that's a portal you know," you said, standing there at his door, feeling awkward now. This wasn't your room anymore, this was his and now you felt you were intruding. "Yeah.. I know.. so.. have you been here this whole time?" He asked and you nodded, "yeah.." you said and Matt sighed, thinking about all the embarrassing things he could've done.
"Why can I see you now?" Matt asked. You shrugged, "I really don't know.. I'm sorry.. let me see if I can like… go away," you said, closing your eyes as you tried to will yourself to disappear again. Matt watched you, he couldn't help but chuckle, watching you squeeze your eyes shut and try to disappear. "It's not working is it?" You asked, opening your eyes as Matt shook his head, "nope, still here in all your dog pajama glory," Matt chuckled. He seemed to relax, going to his drawers to grab clothes as you watched. "If I knew I was gonna die I would've picked something nicer.. but they are comfy," you shrugged.
Matt nodded, "im gonna.. go change." He said, walking back into the bathroom and shutting the door. You went back to sit on the bed, looking out the window at the night sky, the moon shining in all its fullness. It looked beautiful, you missed being outside. Matt came back out, seeing you sitting on his bed, staring out the window. As he looked at you he noticed the slight transparency you had. "Are you okay?" Matt asked softly, but it felt like a dumb thing to ask, especially to someone who was literally dead. "I guess I'm okay as a dead person can be," you shrugged.
"Hey, is that ice cream shop on the corner still open?" You asked, changing the subject but god you missed that place. "Oh, Harvey's? No, it closed last summer." Matt said, making you sigh. "See that's what I don't like about being dead, time moves so weirdly.. you say last summer but I don't even remember last summer.. I don't even know how long ive been dead.. when everyone left time just.. stopped existing." You said, sighing softly and Matt nodded. "It's been 6 years.." Matt said softly, making you gasp. It couldn't have been that long, there was no way.
"6 years? I've been dead 6 fucking years.. oh my god how much music have I missed?" You said and Matt chuckled, finding it funny that that's what you were worried about. Matt walked over to his computer, "what was your favorite artist?" Matt asked. You told him the random artist and he pulled it up, "they put out 4 albums," matt said making you shoot up and walk over to him, "4 fucking albums! Are you fucking kidding me!" You said and Matt laughed. "Well, I know what we're doing tonight," Matt said, and you smiled looking down at him, "really?" You asked. Matt nodded, "oh yeah, let's get this party started." Matt said.
You and Matt spent all night listening to all 4 albums, listening to them multiple times. He found you some tour videos and showed them to you as well. You guys binged everything from your favorite band. It was the best night you'd had since passing.

Matt was running around his house, "Woods! Woods!" Matt kept calling out, running around the house looking for his beloved dog. He felt panicked, the dog never left without him. Every day, they had a set schedule, Monday through Friday Matt and Woods would take the walk to the doggy daycare, getting Woods his much needed exercise and letting Matt go on the walks he loved. But now Woods was missing, Matt was running late this morning, they usually left right at 9am, taking the same route each time to the doggy day care down the street. But it was almost 11, and the dog was missing.
He searched everywhere, under beds, hiding spots, checking the backyard and that's when he saw it, a hole dug under the fence. Woods got out and Matt didn't know where Woods could have gone. Matt's phone was ringing on the counter when he came back inside, he grabbed the phone, answering it immediately. "Hello, Mr. Sturniolo?" You spoke on the other end. "Yes, that's me, how can I help you?" Matt asked, sounding a bit hurried as he grabbed his keys, ready to get in his car and go looking for his dog.
"Woodsy is here, the doggy daycare, it seems he walked himself here," you giggled slightly, the dog sat at your legs, nuzzling its face into your thighs for pets. Matt gasped, "You're kidding," Matt said before he chuckled, "damn smart dog," he said. You giggled at that, "yeah, he's a bit dirty so im gonna give him a bath, free of charge." You said and Matt smiled, "thank you, I'm on my way." Matt said before hanging up. He laughed to himself, the situation was funny.
You gave Woodsy his bath, washing all the mud and dirt off his paws and face from where you assumed he dug under a fence to get here. Woodsy was the nicest and smartest dog you knew, always wanting cuddles and showing off with his tricks. You dried him off, putting him in a red bandana before hanging out with him at the front waiting for his owner. The door opened a bit later, Woodsy ran up to Matt, barking and jumping up at him, running around in circles and wagging his tail.
"Hi! You must be Woodsy's owner," you smiled, standing from the desk. You walked over to him, shaking his hand as Woodsy came back over to you and laid by your feet, plopping down and panting happily with a wagging tail. "Yeah, I'm Matt. Wow, are you sure you're not his owner?" Matt said, smiling at his dog laying at your feet. "Oh no, I just give him treats that's why he likes me," you joked, Matt smiled back. You looked at him, really taking him in. You'd seen him a few times but only in passing. He was good looking, handsome.
"Well, im happy to know my dog didn't run away.. I was so scared.. gosh woodsy don't do that to me," Matt pouted kneeling down and petting his dog. You pulled a treat from your pocket, handing it to matt who gave it to woodsy. The dog chomped away happily. "Well.. i guess I should be taking her home.. thank you for giving her a bath." Matt said as he stood back up. "Yeah, it's no problem. Well uh.. see you later?" You asked and Matt nodded, calling his dog to him but woodsy didn't move.
"Come on woods, let's go," he said but still woodsy didn't move. "You know, uh she can stay, I know we're booked but I don't mind watching her.. if you're busy." You said. Matt thought about it for a moment, he had a few things to do but he didn't plan on dropping woodsy off. But Woodsy seemed happy here, so he nodded. "Okay, I'll be back later.. Thank you, see you later. Bye woodsy,"Matt said, patting the dog's head. He gave you a little wave before reluctantly leaving.
You smiled, leaning down and petting the dog, giving him another treat. "Your daddy is very nice.. is he single?" You asked the dog, before giggling, "just kidding, I know you can't talk." You patted the dog's head before going to sit back down, the dog followed and laid right at your feet.

You stood behind the counter, using the wrapping paper to wrap the bundle of flowers you had arranged together. The door bell rang, signaling a customer had entered. You looked up, "welcome in," you called out in a cheery voice. Then you made eye contact with him, a brunette guy, wearing a red jacket. When you made eye contact, he smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling in the cutest way. You smiled back as he walked over.
"Hi," he spoke softly, looking around the counter at the different bouquets of flowers. "Hello, how can I help you today?" You asked, he looked back at you. "I came in- I uh- sorry," matt chuckled softly, scratching the back of his neck. You smiled at him, finding his stuttering cute. "I needed some flowers for my mom.. she likes purple." Matt said, feeling bad for being so awkward, but the moment he saw you he swore the air left his lungs; like the sun was shining directly on him making his cheeks heat up. He always got awkward around gorgeous girls.
"Purple, we can work with that! Let's get you a bouquet, do you have a budget?" You asked, walking from behind the counter to start grabbing flowers for the bouquet. The flowers were scattered around the store for people to make their own bouquets. Matt followed, "I don't know.. what would you say is a good budget for a mom?" Matt asked, watching as you picked each flower mindfully. You giggled softly, "let's say about 75, how does that sound?" You asked and Matt nodded, "yeah, that's perfect," Matt smiled.
You gathered the flowers as Matt followed, bringing them back to the table to cut and wrap them. You arranged them carefully, wrapping them up and tying them with a purple bow. You brought them to the counter, ringing them up, "And since they're for your mom, you get the mothers discount." You said. You were lying, but you couldn't admit to giving him a discount for being so attractive, but Matt didn't seem to catch that you were lying. He just smiled, blushing slightly as he pulled out his card to pay.
He paid, not much was said as the receipt printed. "Okay, and you're all set. I hope she loves them," you smiled, handing him the receipt. "I love them," Matt said, eyes widening when he realized he spoke without even thinking. "I-I mean she'll love them! Because I love them! Yeah," Matt smiled, you giggled softly. Matt gave you an awkward wave before he left the store. He stared at the flowers, he debated throwing them away and going right back inside, claiming he dropped them or something. But he didn't, he went home, thinking about what excuse he would use to see you next.

You were nervous, but so excited. You always wanted to go to a pride festival or event, but never have. This year, there was one happening in town and Matt mentioned taking you and Aster to it which immediately caused you to squeal, and Matt knew that it was absolutely happening.
You sat in the bed doing Aster's eye shadow. You weren't an amazing makeup artist but you knew a few things, plus you may have had a cosmetology license under your belt, but not that anyone knew. Sure you worked for it, but you never really wanted to do anything with the license. You always wanted to do something else, but you were forced to go to some type of school so cosmetology it was. You blended the pink and orange eye shadow gently, giving aster a pink and orange Smokey eye, matching what your makeup.
Matt walked in, standing in the doorway and smiling as he watched the two of you. "Will you do my eyeliner?" Matt asked, making you turn, looking at him wide eyed and excited, "really?!" you practically shouted and Matt nodded, "yeah, I think I'll look cool, we're gonna meet chris and Nick after the parade." Matt said and you nodded in turn, going back to blending the shadow.
Nick was the one who told Matt about the festival, and as much as he wanted to go with his brothers, he really wanted this to be a special moment for him, Aster, and you. So he figured you guys would enjoy the parade together then meet up after for drinks at a bar. Matt wasn't exactly dressed up like you or Aster, but he wore some jean shorts and a shirt that said, "let's go lesbians," which you found absolutely hilarious. Aster wore one of her favorite shirts, the words, "Treat her right," with eat her right in red.
You finished up the eyeshadow, "glitter?" You asked Aster who nodded. You smiled, adding glitter onto her eyelid before pecking her lips. "Okay, all done. Matt's turn!" you smiled. Aster got up, going to pick out her shoes, her usual orange converse. Matt took Aster’s spot as you pecked his lips making him chuckle before instructing him to close his eyes which he did. You applied the eyeliner and he was surprisingly still and calm, he didn't even squirm once. "Can I have glitter?" Matt asked and you nodded immediately. You added some glitter to his lids before kissing his cheek. "Okay, all done! You look perfect." You smiled before standing up.
The three of you gathered your things, and got in the car heading to the festival. Once there, the place was packed and lively: people walking up and down the street, chatting, and laughing. It all looked so happy. You were excited, staring out the car window like an excited puppy. Matt parked the car and the three of you got out. You stood between Matt and Aster, walking with them. Matt held your hand as Aster wrapped an arm around your waist. You took in everything, all the bright colors and happiness, you couldn't stop smiling as the three of you walked.
You guys walked around the festival, taking in all the sights, performers, and people. You guys stopped to watch some drag performers lip sync, Matt gave you guys cash so you were able to tip them. You cheered and screamed your head off, having the time of your life. Matt smiled, so happy to see you and Aster having fun. Aster was so happy to see you and Matt smiling and having a good time.
You guys got some drinks, ate some random overpriced foods and listened to music before heading to meet Nick and Chris. Matt led the way, holding your hand as you held Aster, you giggled as he weaved through the crowd till he found his brothers. "Hey!" he smiled as he greeted them. Nick greeted you and Aster with a simple hey and a hug, telling you both how amazing you two looked. He looked amazing as well and you made sure to tell him. Chris greeted you guys with a wave, being his usual stand offish self. He'd get more comfortable as the night went on like he usually did.
The five of you headed to a bar nearby, grabbing drinks and hanging out. You guys talked about everything, from work, to Aster's new job she's hopefully getting and Matt's new project. Things were nice and the night went on till Matt and Aster had to cut you off and had to pull you away from dancing on the bar with Nick. The night was amazing, and the last thing you remembered was taking a dill pickle shot with Nick, then things went black.
But somehow, someway you made it home in peace, waking up the next evening with a killer hangover. But hey, you'd do it again if you could.

what are sex store worker!reader and chris doing rn?
Omggggg, the squeal I just let out! Tysm for asking girll!!
Tuesday, 7:06 pm..
reader just got off of work, and may or may not have brought something home for them to try.. (wink, wink)
chris.. welll he's at home, waiting for reader to get home. but he's been an absolute BRATT today, sending her naughty texts at work. he came over on her break to bug her, being super needy. (Which normalllly would be fine, but he's at her job, pluss he's been RELENTLESS today!
✸. . . where between optimistic!reader and pessimistic!matt one settles into the new camp much better than the other ꒱
⸝⸝⸝ strange things are happening, and while dimples tries to believe they can be safe there, matt definitely won’t let it slide.
warnings: zombie apocalypse, mentions of death and weapons, slight angst, argument, tension.
𖨂 word count : 2.7k
the moment noah opens the gates around the camp, you give matt an “i told you so” look.
they start giving you a small tour of the place, and you can’t help but smile the whole way. you can feel how tense matt is beside you, scanning the zone, but he doesn’t point out anything out loud to you.
and you’re glad, because you’re excited about this place. so excited that you don’t seem to notice how there are no kids in sight, much more focused on the cows, pigs and sheep being led around. there’s protection, a canteen and beds, and you have never been the type to nitpick.
noah and hunter stop by the cabins at some point, making you almost trip into them since you were too distracted by the surroundings. they turn around to look at you both, and you feel matt lean closer to you simultaneously.
“you stay here.” the older one says, staring directly at you only. you are about to go ask for details, but matt steps in first.
“we both stay here, you mean.”
“no.” hunter doesn’t hesitate to answer, responding to matt’s intense gaze in the same way, which makes you frown.
“women and men don’t sleep in the same rooms here at this… age.” noah explains after him, offering you a smile that doesn’t look too sincere.
matt laughs humorlessly, leaning against the outside wall with his arms crossed. you thought all this time that matt acted slightly mean towards you, but that’s definitely because you don’t remember how you used to see him interact with the rest of the world.
“what are we going to do that we haven’t been able to all this time?”
you find yourself blushing while noah can’t hide his slight shock after matt’s implication, both swallowing at the same time. “it’s just for protection.”
you realize matt’s focus is now completely on you, asking you with his eyes only if you’re okay with this rule. and your answer is obviously that you don’t want to sleep without matt.
according to your journal, it has been fifty-eight days alone with matt — during which you’ve slept next to him or near him without exception every single night. at this point it’s the only way you can feel safe when dark, even though you would never have the courage to tell him so out loud.
“i’ll be fine.” you whisper and lie to him in what you hope isn’t a shaky voice, softly squeezing his arm.
he doesn’t try to hide his disbelief, looking at your hand on his arm before hunter walks between you both. “follow me. i’ll show you where you’ll be staying.”
you can still feel matt hesitant to leave, his eyes fixed on you for a few extra seconds before he scoffs and turns around, not bothering to wait for hunter.
hunter and noah exchange a look you can’t quite read, before the first one turns and runs after matt, his hands gripping the gun at his hip. you tiptoe to see where matt’s cabin is going to be, just in case, but you look away when noah speaks to you, having forgotten that he was still there.
“you should shower. dinner is in about…” he looks at his wristwatch. “an hour.”
you nod, lightly biting your lip as you carefully analyze his current appearance. you could almost swear he’s a different person from who he was in high school — but not in a good way like matt does.
you believe matt’s eyes look softer now than they did in high school. noah’s look way darker. matt looks broader in the right way — you like the small but noticeable bump on his arm, the way his stomach looks when he lifts his shirt, when he’s taking a swim in a lake and you can see his back.
even when the thought is weird, you think matt looks yours in a way — probably because you’re the only one that is even able to see him in this version.
“you eyeing me up?”
you get out of your trance at his words, realizing you have zoned out too badly, heading for the door. you ignore his last comment, because what you’re thinking can’t exactly be described as eyeing him up. “i’ll be there.”
after you take a much needed shower and stare at yourself for a few minutes in front of the broken room’s mirror, you end up talking yourself into going to dinner. not before you choose the long path though, unable to help but feel watched by the few guards around the gates at some times.
dinner goes by fine. your stomach is growling too loud because of the hunger you have been enduring the last few days, so you have no interest in the conversation going on at the table when you have a plate of beans in front of you that you’re eating almost like an animal.
you’re sure the women are talking about you. i mean, you would have to be dumb not to realize. there are only two enormous tables at the canteen, one full of men and the one you’re seated at, full of women. it’s easy to suppose you’re the youngest person here too.
it isn’t a surprise to see that matt hasn't attended, you could bet he’s currently looking for any flaws in the place, but it was a disappointment to not see any familiar faces, given that noah had left that possibility open when you found each other.
you lift your gaze from your plate, spoon still inside of your mouth, just to find almost everyone on the table already looking at you, and everyone who isn’t is just because they’re whispering to each other shamelessly.
you automatically feel awkward, your usual talkative self disappearing. you would have never guessed that after so long of only interacting with matt, doing this again would be so weird.
“forgive us, dear. what’s your name?” one of them finally says something directed at you, her hands joining together on the table, all the eyes looking at you expectantly.
you swallow rapidly, dropping the spoon softly on your plate. “i’m dimples. nice to meet you all.” you answer, voice quieter than you mean to but still a small smile on your face.
“so it’s true? you’re new here?”
“where’s the boy then?”
“i saw him! he looked… dangerous.”
“he’s too young for you, patricia.”
“i’m just saying! i just hope he doesn’t get chosen. they’re so young…”
you listen to the numerous conversations going on around you, paying extra attention to the ones that mention matt. you frown, not understanding what they're talking about at all. get chosen? for what exactly?
your mouth opens when you’re about to ask what they’re referring to, but right in that moment you feel someone step up behind you, their hands dropping to your shoulders making you close your mouth and look back.
“are they stressing you out already? come on, i feel like you need some sleep.”
that night, sleep doesn't come easily for you, but you expected as much. it’s when you also find it difficult the next day that you start to feel frustrated, or the day after that, or the third one. there’s way too much noise at night outside of unknown events you’re not brave enough to go out and discover, but it's almost as if the camp is as alive at night as it is during the day.
the hours of daylight are enjoyable, though. they all begin to integrate you into the group instead of treating you like an oddball. you start to help out in every way you can — you help cooking, organize supplies when they arrive, and even attend the nightly gatherings around a campfire.
it’s impossible not to fall in love with how ordinary everything feels, making it easy to forget everything that’s happening outside of these four gates.
matt, on the other hand, seems to be hiding from everyone, which is definitely the least enjoyable part. you know he’s still here since you see him from time to time, but it’s always in the weirdest places, and on top of everything, he doesn’t seem to have any interest in talking to you either, which you can’t lie saying it doesn’t make you feel a little remorseful.
it’s the fourth day when there’s a shift in the air. hunter, who you now believe is some kind of leader here, has gathered all of you in the center of the camp, noah standing behind him.
he’s informing everyone how they lost a man and a woman the prior night.
your heart aches, a few tears filling your eyes even when you didn’t know them when you think of the fear they must have felt. it doesn’t matter how much time you spend in this new world, you’re sure this news will never be easy to hear. but that’s not even the worst part.
absolutely no one around you has any type of reaction. they all stand there as if they’re listening to what’s being served for lunch, almost as if they’re about to turn around and go back to what they were doing before.
“what?” a sarcastic voice you recognize too well is the first person to respond to the news, turning around to look at the boy standing just a person to your right. “and how did they die, exactly?”
hunter tenses his jaw, clearly not used to people asking that kind of question. noah takes the lead as always, answering matt. “they were attacked. i think it’s pretty obvious, since we are living in an apocalypse.”
some let out a quiet laugh, but matt most certainly doesn’t. if anything he looks more pissed, crossing his arms over his chest. “why were they out at that hour? how did you find them?”
“okay, the questionnaire is over. everyone can leave now.” noah announces, nodding before turning around while everyone else, except you, does the same.
matt frowns, hurrying to follow noah and determined to get answers to his questions, but his plan gets ruined when hunter slaps him on the chest, an action that could be friendly but it’s a clear sign for him to stop right in that moment.
you silently pray he won’t put up a fight, one that you know he has little chance of winning just by looking at them. his gaze lingers on you for half a second, like he knew you were there all along, during which you shake your head, prompting him to turn away immediately but not before letting out a humourless huff.
you rush to follow him as you watch him leave, feeling pissed and worried for him in equal measure. “matt, wait!”
you soon realize he’s heading to the woods in a small gap in the fence, not stopping even after he hears your calls but slowing his pace a little. you struggle to catch him, having to dodge way too many people on the way.
he finally comes to a stop once you have both reached the woods, leaning against a tree while he runs his hands through his hair. only then you can realize the new haircut they have given him along with a razor.
“what are you doing?” you ask him, your tone not at its kindest moment while you stand right in front of him.
“i don’t think you’re asking that to the right person.” he answers, gaze fixed on the unknown of green around you, giving you nothing, as usual.
“i am, actually.” you don’t back out, unconsciously stepping even closer. “do you always have to hate all nice and safe things?”
“safe? look at this place, dimples! you’re going to tell me there’s nothing weird happening here?” he gestures around with just hands, frustration showing on the motion. he stops for a second, sighing at your lack of response. “you’re smarter than that.”
your mouth falls silent at the insincere compliment, suppressing the urge to groan in exasperation. one thing you can’t help but notice between you and matt is how what he says can emerge in your brain and change your opinion so quickly, while you’re almost certain your words don’t mean anything to him.
“don’t you want to find our families and friends anymore or something?” he asks back, going for your low point.
you actually get offended at the assumption, that being one of the worst things he could say to you right now and knowing it. “don’t even say that because you know that’s not true. i said we would stay only a few days.”
he takes a deep breath and nods, changing the direction of the conversation. “who sends them supplies, dimples? why is everything so perfect here? how do they do it?” now it’s his turn to leave the tree and start to step towards you until you have no choice but to collide your back against a tree this time. “and now two people disappear? come on, dimples.”
you look up at him, completely speechless, knowing that you should be paying your full attention to his words but finding it somewhat impossible because of the proximity of his body to yours, which he must not realize.
why are your body and brain playing this trick on you lately? you blink rapidly, quickly searching for something to say. “i told you you could leave without me if you wanted to.” you remind him.
“and i told you,” he answers slowly, his tone lowering. “i’m not going anywhere without you. so can you listen to me?”
the sound of footsteps nearby makes both your heads turn to the side, the familiar silhouette of a guard coming into sight.
“hey! what are you two doing outside?” he yells, running to come closer to you both. matt touches the bridge of his nose, stepping away from you negligently. “you’re not allowed here.”
“now we can’t even leave.” he whispers, his sarcastic words directed only to you.
you let the guard lead you back inside without much protesting. he insists on escorting matt to his cabin, and even though you don’t like the idea, but matt’s face tells you it’s fine without any words needed. this time you do stay in place long enough to see where he’s staying, feeling like you might pay him a visit soon if things stay like this.
when you’re reaching your own, already almost making your mind completely about listening to matt about leaving, you’re unexpectedly met with noah outside your door. he turns around when he hears you arrive, offering you a smile.
he talks once you’re in front of each other. “they told me you went to talk to him.”
“yeah. matt can be… a little stubborn.” you answer leaning against your door, confused about why he came here just to discuss this.
“right.” he says, looking around before dropping his gaze back on you. “he already was a weird kid in high school.”
you lick your lips awkwardly, your expression not showing any reaction to his mean words. deep down you feel a need to defend him, but you decide it won’t do any good to this conversation. you’re too focused on how noah’s body warmth feels so different from matt’s anyway.
he seems to consider his next question for a few seconds. “he doesn’t trust us, does he?”
you shrug, brushing it off. “it’s matt. he doesn’t trust anyone.”
“he seems to trust you.” he points out, his gaze fixed on yours feeling more serious than it should be.
you don’t know how to answer to that phrase. does matt trust you? you like to think so, even though he likes to act so independently, but you definitely didn’t expect it to be something that could be perceived so easily from an outside perspective.
“just please let him know that distrust can get you killed here.” he concludes, pulling his hands into his pocket, his tone too calm for the words he’s saying. “in this world, i mean.”

emo!matt and cherry's first time meeting .𖥔 ݁ ˖🕸️🕷.𖥔 ݁ ˖
"hello! welcome to candyland!" you chirped as the bell above the door of your parent's candy shop chimed.
you'd been working the front counter all day, eagerly waiting for customers. it was monday, one of your slowest days. usually, the only customers you got on weekdays were your sweet, elderly regulars. however, this customer was young. he was probably around your age, but he stuck out like a sore thumb in this brightly colored, sugar infused shop.
"you got any store-made caramels?" the boy asked, pulling an earbud out.
you frowned. "we don't. i'm so sorry! caramels are only on tuesdays and thursdays, but i can definitely get you something else if you'd like! what kind of sweets do you like?" you smiled, putting on your best "customer service" voice.
the boy furrowed his brows. "uhhhh. . .not usually anything else."
you blinked. "you don't like candy?"
"you look like you're shocked." he said, deadpan.
"wellllll," you said, drawing out the word. even as monotone as he was, you could tell he was joking. "you are in a candy shop."
"true true," he smirked. "i usually only like monster as far as sweet things go." he said, holding the white can up to you.
you wrinkled your nose. "that's it? no candy? no cupcakes?"
"nah."
"that's weird," you said, then slapped a hand over your mouth. "sorry, the anti-customer service side of me slipped out."
he threw his head back laughing. "you're funny, you know that? how long have you worked here?"
"my entire life," you shrugged. "my parents are the owners. i'm cherry, by the way."
"matt," he nodded, thrusting his chin towards your name badge. "is cherry your real name?"
"yep. like i said, my parents are the owners. they love sweets."
matt snorted, surveying the rainbow colored walls and candyesque decor. "i gathered that. do you like sweets?" he asked.
your smile brightened. "i love anything sweet."
"you ever tried monster?"
"i've heard it tastes like battery acid." you retorted.
matt placed his hand over his heart with a mock gasp. "does not. try a sip."
"i'll have my own," you said, sashaying from behind the counter over to the cooler where bottled beverages for purchase were stocked. you cracked open a pink can, taking a sip. your eyes widened at how sweet and sugary tasting the drink was, filling your mouth with the taste of strawberries. "this tastes like candy."
"told ya." matt said leaning against the counter.
"it's so sweet!" you said excitedly.
you were so busy wrapped up in trying a new sweet treat that you didn't see matt's soft smirk at your bubbly whimsy. you seemed completely oblivious to anything bad in the world to him in your poofy skirt, working in a candy shop. he couldn't believe a girl like you was bonding with someone like him over something as stupid as monster. the brunette made a mental note to revisit this candy shop, especially since a certain girl was the heir to the business.
