No one ever wants to be sick. No one. Especially you. You had big dreams, till it all came crashing down when you turned 18. You don't know what happened, as a kid you got sick a lot but your parents said it was nothing. Claiming it to be anxiety and depression and just being lazy. So you ignored it, ignored every ache and pain and sickness you felt because it wasn't deemed important. But then you moved out at 18 to go to college and things got back, the sickness, whatever it was came creeping back in, it was tired of lying dormant in your body. It came in full swing, dislocations, migraines, constant vomiting.
You had to move back home. It felt like a failure. Having to move back home and quit school, all dreams you had now gone, taken away from you by a mysterious illness. Living with your parents only made it worse. It wasn't that they didn't believe you, it was more like they couldn't handle it. So, they moved you out, moved you into your own apartment. It hurt, being pushed out, sent away, so they didn't have to watch you struggle. It was confusing, how they continued to pay for everything but couldn't see you, didn't ask questions about your health. But what they did ask was when you would get a job, when you would go back to school, when you would do something with your life. It hurt but you understood, it was their way of asking when you would get better, if you were getting better. It may have been a sick and twisted way but it was their way of caring.
Moving out helped for a little, till things got worse again, you couldn't handle the nights alone laying on the bathroom floor after throwing up so much. You couldn't keep on the work out schedule your physical therapist had you one and keeping track of medications was even harder. You didn't want to ask for help, but your parents saw it, heard it in your voice, and they cared in their own way, so they hired a caretaker for you. Which... might've been the nicest thing they had ever done. You didn't want to agree but you didn't feel you had much choice, with the way you were going you were scared you were just going to wither away in your apartment alone.
Matt showed up at 8am, Monday morning. He had his suitcases and work equipment. He stood outside the apartment door stone faced and emotionless. He knocked on the door. You heard the door, sighing softly, there were a million reasons you didn't want him here but none that you could say. You got up, pulling yourself out of your comfortable warm bed with baby pink sheets. You stood on unstable legs, knee braces keeping your legs from hyper extending. You made your way to the front door, opening it. Your eyes squinted from the bright light outside, realizing just how dark the apartment was. You never opened any windows.
"Good morning, Matthew, but you can call me Matt," Matt stuck out his hand. You had one hand against the door, leaning on it to keep yourself from falling. Standing was hard, you couldn't stand for long periods of time because of your legs. You shakily shook his hand. He noticed the tremor in your hand and he couldn't figure out if it was anxiety or a symptom of your disability. He knew the bare minimum, from what your parents had told him but he had started to realize that your parents didn't know the extent of what you were going through. The way they tried to explain, fumbling over symptoms and saying they weren't even sure how they could help, but he was going to try his best to help.
"Come in, I'll show you to your room," you said softly, letting go of his hand. You turned, leading him inside. He brought his bags in, shutting the front door and the room was engulfed in darkness. "Sorry," you mumbled, flipping on the hallway light, rubbing your eyes, trying to adjust to the lights. You hated bright lights, they tended to make your head hurt. "All good, do you have any lamps?" Matt asked as he walked down the hallway with you. You shook your head, opening the door to his room. "Lamps may be a good idea, not as strong of a light," Matt said as he walked into the room.
He set his backpack on the bed, leaving his two suitcases by the end of the bed. "Make yourself at home, this is now your room.. for however long.." you said softly, leaning against the door frame. Matt noticed, the way you struggled to stand up straight, he noticed the slight shake in your legs, how you tended to move from standing on each leg, like you can't get comfortable. "Thank you, I'll unpack then we can talk about what you need from me," Matt said, he almost flashed a smile, almost but from the way you looked, you didn't seem interested in a smile from him. You didn't seem interested at all. You gave him a nod before walking back to your room and shutting the door.
Matt unpacked his things, putting clothes in the drawers and closets, taking out all of his note taking items and such. It didn't take him too long before he grabbed his notebook and pen and walked to your room. He knocked on the door, "come in," you answered. You moved to sit up as Matt opened the door, "Hello," He said as he walked into your room. He took a moment to just look around, you had a desk, a computer, your bed with pink bedsheets and stuffed animals all around you. It looked like the ultimate comfort space. "Can i?" Matt motioned towards your desk chair and you nodded. He pulled it out, turning it towards you before sitting down. He opened his notebook, "Okay, so.. your parents explained a little about what was going on... but I'd like to hear it from you, can you tell me what's going on?" He asked, you stared at him, you knew the tone he was using, the fake caring tone, the one that just made you hurt, it hurt because you didn't want to have to pay someone to care but unfortunately that's the life you had. "Uh.. i have this disability, Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome... it's different for everyone but for me i have uh knee dislocations, i wear knee braces for them, I can't stand for long period of times currently so i tend to use a wheelchair... i have POTs... then gastroparesis which makes me throw up almost everything i eat.. then the chronic fatigue and migraines sometimes.. and then just mental disorders..." You spoke softly, staring down at your hands as you picked at your nails.
Matt nodded, writing down each thing you said in little bullet points, "Mental disorders? Which ones?" He asked, not even looking up from the notebook. "OCD, anxiety, depression, adhd and autism," You sighed, you felt so... bad... listing everything off just made you feel like a black hole of a person, the black hole your parents convinced you you were. But Matt showed no emotion, face stone cold as he nodded, "Yeah all of that is comorbidities for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome." Matt stated as he finished writing whatever he was writing. You were surprised, surprised he knew about that, but that was also his job so you nodded.
"Okay, so, doctors appointments, what do we have going on?" He asked, glancing up at you as he got ready to write. "Uh.. physical therapy twice a week right now, Mondays and Thursdays, therapy on Wednesdays and then other doctors appointments I can fit in between. I have to start ketamine treatments again, so I'll have to find a way to work that in, twice a week." You said softly, still picking at your nails. Matt noticed, stopping his writing for a moment as he looked around your room. "Here, why don't you mess with this?" Matt grabbed a fidget toy that sat on your desk, he leaned over and handed it to you and you took it, starting to mess with it instead of picking at your nails. "Okay, so Monday, Thursday is physical therapy, Wednesday is regular therapy. Then how about we try and fit in ketamine treatments on.. Tuesday and Friday? How does that sound?" Matt asked.
You shrugged, "We can but I also need to see my GI at some point and see my psychiatrist to change my medications." You said, continuing to mess with the fidget toy in your hands. "Okay, we'll figure that out. Ketamine treatments usually start with two to three treatments for about three weeks then move down to one to two for a few weeks then we stop. So we will make time for it. How urgent is seeing the psychiatrist?" He asked, looking over at you as you stared down at the fidget toy just taking in his questions.
"Pretty urgent.. but if i start the ketamine treatments that'll help.. but i dont know." You said softly. "Okay, so.. let's get scheduled with the psychiatrist first, I can call if you need me to. Then we can work in the GI, you said you've been throwing up, how often is that?" He asked, picking his pen back up to write. "Uh.. nightly usually.. but since I've been taking nausea meds every night it's gotten less.. it's just.. I can't lay down flat on my back or else I get really nauseous and throw up." You explained softly and Matt nodded as he wrote things down. "Okay, so nausea meds every night, I have a list of your medications.. so.. yes, it's right here," Matt said as he flipped through his notebook, making a little note by the nausea meds to take them every night.
"Okay, so.. what do you think you need help with most?" Matt asked, flipping back to the page he was on. "I-i dont know.. just take me to my appointments I guess.." you shrugged, Matt made a soft hum. "Okay, I can do that. For medications, I'm gonna take them and keep them locked away for your safety, I'll administer all medications, morning and night. What about meals? Three meals a day?" Matt asked. You shrugged again, "Let me grab all my meds," you mumbled, moving to get up but Matt stopped you, placing a hand on your lower leg. "Tell me where they are," he said softly, he could see it, how much you didn't want him to help, how much you wanted to fight it but you didn't seem to even have the fight in you. "They're in my bathroom, on the counter." You said. Matt nodded, walking to the bathroom and gathering the huge amount of pill bottles just laying out. "I'm gonna go put these in my room," he said and you nodded.
Matt walked out, taking the medications to his room, putting them down, he'd organize them later. He walked back to your room, sitting back down on the desk chair. "Do you need help with showering? Nothing to be ashamed of, I'm here to help," Matt said, hoping he didn't sound creepy, keeping in mind the OCD and how you might take that. "Uh.." You looked away, feeling embarrassed, and Matt saw your cheeks flush red. He would never judge someone for struggling to shower, or even take care of themselves, it was his job to help. "I just struggle to wash my hair.. the motions of trying to wash my hair that exhausts me." You admitted, trying to keep your voice from cracking. You hated sounding weak, hated seeming weak, hated needing as much help as you did. "Okay, so I can help you wash your hair, it's a free alternative, or we can find you a hair salon, maybe a cosmetology school? They do cheap hair washes." Matt suggested, you went back to looking at the fidget toy. "You can wash my hair... i dont wanna- yeah.. you can do it," you said softly and Matt nodded, not asking any questions and not making it a big deal.
"Awesome, we can do that. What does your day to day usually look like?" He asked. You took a moment to think about it, even though there wasn't much to think about. "Uh.. I usually have an appointment everyday so that's the first thing I do.. i wake up, leave for my appointment uh then come home and just lay in bed... Some days if i feel well enough ill play some computer games but mostly just lay in bed.. then I'll take a bath at some point.. Some days I'll take two baths.. but that's really it.. I mostly just go to my doctor's appointment and it wears me out so much that I just come home and lay in bed the rest of the day." You explained softly and Matt nodded, taking everything in. "Do you get three meals a day? Do you eat breakfast?" He asked and you shook your head. "I don't... I struggle to eat... I'll eat maybe a snack around 2 or 3 and then eat dinner at 6 which is not a lot and then that's it.. it doesn't matter how little or how much I eat, I'll just throw it up usually." You sighed and Matt nodded, "Okay... Well, we'll get to the GI and figure some stuff out. We will get it figured out, okay?" Matt said, reaching over and placing a comforting hand on your ankle. You nodded, "Okay.." for a moment the tears welled in your eyes.. the feeling of hopefulness sneaking up on you in a way you weren't used to. It felt good to have hope, but also scary as hell.

The plane makes a clear landing, jolting you awake as the tires hit the ground. You look out the window and see the ocean in the distance and buildings somewhat similar to those in your hometown. It’s midday, so the sun is high and bright, momentarily blinding you. You sigh. You aren’t sure if this is the new beginning that you wanted. But you know it’s one that you need. As the plane pulls up to the gate, you grab your phone and turn it back on, hands shaking with anxiousness.
Before you can even spiral, your phone vibrates.
Chris: I’m waiting by the baggage claim. Have you landed yet?
Chris: I’ve missed you, Rowdy. Welcome to Cali. I promise you’ll love it here.
You feel a smile form on your face—Chris is the only one who can do that when you feel like your life is a black hole. You walk off the plane and head towards the baggage claim. Once there, you look around. You immediately spot his brown hair and wide smile as he leans against the wall, sunglasses on top of his head and a black shirt on. He waves the minute he makes eye contact with you, and it makes you feel like you’re ten again, sunburned and racing each other on the beach until you’re dying from laughing.
He straightens up and walks over. “Well look who finally got here!”
There is no waiting with Chris. The minute he is close enough, he pulls you into a big hug, so strong that it nearly suffocates you. You laugh softly and squeeze him back just as hard.
“God. I’m so glad you are here.” He mumbles into your hair.
You just hold him tighter, tears coming to your eyes. He feels warm and safe, grounding you from all the chaos you went through in the last month. Just for a second, you let yourself believe that your best friend might just be able to fix what was broken.
Chris pulls back and looks at you, “Ready to go?”
You grab your suitcase from baggage claim and nod. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”
You both walk to his black Jeep. Chris, always being a gentleman, opens your door for you and does a goofy little bow as you get in. It brings out a giggle from you. As you buckle your seat belt, Chris gets in on his side and starts the car. He looks over at you and his brows furrow. He takes in your sad face, the dark circles under your eyes from lack of sleep. His hand comes up and pushes some of your hair back. You lean into the touch. It’s comforting.
“Do you need me to kill him? I know how to hide a body.” He jokes softly.
“I would rather you didn’t go to jail for murder.” You smile.
Chris nods and taps your leg before backing out of the spot. “This will be good for you, Rowdy. I swear.”
The drive through the city slowly turned into a drive through a charming small town. It was beautiful. Cute houses lined the coast, people were walking their dogs and running. There were ice cream stands on every corner. It looked lively and happy. Everyone seemed at ease in this small town. It looked like nobody here ever had any problems.
Chris stops for a second and points at a stand that’s on the beach.
“That’s where I work in the morning. The owner is a grouchy old man, but he seems to like me.” He brags.
You pass by a pier, and it looks like some kind of fair is going on, kids and teenagers running around laughing and getting onto rides. It reminds you of the last time Chris visited you, when you took him to an amusement park, and he rode his first roller coaster. The memory brings a small smile to your face.
“See that diner? Best milkshakes ever. I will die on that statement.” He says in a serious tone.
“Guess I’ll have to try it out then, huh?” You look at it. It’s cute, very old school style. Somehow it brings charm to this small beach town.
Chris nods fast, “I’ll take you there one day this week.”
You nod silently in confirmation, your gaze still following the coast as you drive. Eventually you pull up to a beautiful two-story house. It’s yellow, with grey shutters, and it’s not right on the beach but close enough that you can skate to it if you wanted to. You see a group of people hanging out on the porch in the chairs, and suddenly your stomach twists. You were never the best at meeting new people. You’ve gotten better over the year, but the anxiety still buries deep inside you.
The guys and girls are gorgeous, all tan and well-built. You look down at your semi-pale skin and frown. You want to show Chris that you can fit in, that you aren’t the shy girl you used to be, but looking at all of them, you can’t help but feel how you do.
Chris parks the car and looks at you. “Come on, you are going to love them. They are so easygoing.”
You get out of the car and watch Chris grab your suitcase from the trunk. Taking a deep breath, you tell yourself this isn’t the city. It’s a new start. Be someone you want to be.
You both walk up onto the porch. The group goes quiet. They are observing you, trying to figure out who this random girl is that Chris brought home. He sets your suitcase down and puts an arm around your shoulders.
“Everyone, this is [Y/N]. But she also goes by Rowdy. Rowdy, this is everyone.” He smiles and looks at his small group of friends.
A tall, red-headed guy with freckles all over his body stands up first. “Hey, I’m Logan. If any of these fuckers say I’m mean, don’t listen to them. They lie.” You smile softly and wave to him.
A girl with bright pink hair wearing a faded band tee smiles and hugs you before you can think. “I’m Melissa. I heard you love to skate. I can’t wait to show you the skate park!”
You hug her back and grin. “That sounds really cool. It’ll be nice to have someone who doesn’t have two left feet on a skateboard.”
Chris looks at me, shocked. “Hey! I’ve been practicing.”
Melissa rolls her eyes as she releases you and whispers, “He still has two left feet on land.”
You giggle. Chris’s face turns bright red in embarrassment. “Hey, it’s ok. I still can’t surf for shit.”
Chris playfully bumps into you and laughs with you. You look around at the three of them, and there’s this small pit in your stomach. They have such easy confidence where you have to force yourself to have it. There’s a part of you that worries that you won’t fit in. That moving here will all be for nothing. You so badly want to find a home here, but the what ifs always get to you.
Chris can tell you’re overthinking again, so he gently squeezes your arm and whispers, “You’ll fit right in. I promise.”
Before you can even answer him, you hear running footsteps from inside the house. As soon as you face the front door, two bodies barrel into you. You laugh loudly as Nick and Matt wrap their arms around you.
“Oh, my god. Hello.” You say, hugging them back.
“We missed you so much,” Nick says.
“We didn’t think we’d ever see our favorite person again!” Yells Matt.
“I see we are still dramatic.” You pull away with a smile on your face.
Chris groans. “Let’s get inside. The neighbors are starting to look at us weirdly.”
Everyone walks inside, and you look around. The house is cluttered, but in a comfy manner. The boys have their shoes sitting by the door, beach towels are hung up on a coat rack, and you can faintly smell sunscreen and pot around the house. As you walk through it, Chris goes into the kitchen and grabs two glasses filled with lemonade. You take it and sip it slowly, letting out a soft moan of approval.
Chris snorts. “Assuming it tastes good? Matt made it this morning.”
You smile widely, taking another sip before answering. “This might be the best lemonade I’ve ever had.”
The others slowly come and join you in the kitchen. The noise level goes up a notch, then just resumes how it was before introductions. Melissa goes over to their radio and blasts some kind of indie pop music, Logan challenges Matt to a game of cards, Nick is offering you a piece of muffin that he found in the pantry, and Chris is just watching you take it all in stride.
You shake your head at Nick’s offer and settle beside Matt, nerves twisting throughout your whole body. Laughter spills around you, laced with inside jokes and memories you don’t share. You try to join in, but your smile isn’t reaching your eyes. You’re the outside right now, and that hurts. Still, you stay, not completely giving up on these new friends.
Chris keeps stealing glances your way, making sure you don’t feel left out. He comes over and watches the card game with you, his hand gently rubbing your shoulder. His silent way of saying that he is proud of you for not disappearing into a room.
Later, after his friends leave, Chris shows you which room you will be in. It’s a medium-sized room with off-white walls. The windows are open, letting in the breeze and scent of the ocean. On your bed is a stack of clean towels and a necklace made out of seashells. It’s not how your room was back home, but it fills the empty space left by leaving it behind. This is comfy.
“The necklace is a gift from Logan and Melissa. They are really excited that you are here. They want you to feel welcomed.” Chris says softly.
You nod and feel the soft quilt that is covering the bed. They want you here, and that right now means everything to you.
Chris watches you carefully take it all in. “This is your house now, Rowdy. You’re safe. Do what you need to do, and when you’re ready to eat, we will go grill something on the beach, okay?”
Tears instantly fill your eyes at how kind everyone is. As Chris leaves, you sit on the bed and just take in everything around you. There is no loud city noise, no honking cars, no people yelling on the side of the road, and definitely no ex-boyfriend. You can truly feel safe and confident in starting over here.
That night dinner was filled with laughter and stories to catch you up on the boys’ lives. You shared some funny stories about getting lost in the city, while Matt shared a story about how Nick and Chris somehow lost their swimsuits in the ocean while surfing. Chris grilled the food, and it was delicious.
“I’m impressed. You’re cooking has seemed to improve since the last time you visited me.” You tease him as you all ate. All three boys laugh.
“Oh, be quiet. I was a great cook.” Chris says.
“Yeah. If you count almost burning down [Y/N]’s apartment as great.” Nick laughs loudly as Chris tackles him into the sand.
You watch them fondly. You really did miss all three of them, and being back here was like home. Familiar.
As you are cleaning up the plates and making sure nothing was left behind, Matt starts a bonfire. You throw everything away and sit next to him, talking quietly.
“You know, Chris was really happy when you said you’d come live with us. He never stopped talking about you after that phone call.” Matt whispers.
You blush. “He’s my best friend. I’d be stupid to not take the opportunity.”
Before Matt could say anything else, Chris came over and handed you a mug. Hot cocoa, you smiled. Every time you visited each other, no matter the season or temperature, you always celebrated your time together with hot cocoa on the first night. It’s been something you two have done since you were ten. You take it gently and smile.
“The tradition continues, I see.”
Chris hums softly and nods. “So it does. Welcome home, Rowdy.”

Fiona woke up to a cold and empty bed. She knew Chris would probably leave in the night but deep down she secretly hoped he had stayed.
Her body still ached, exhausted by her unwarranted escape from the bedroom she once laid in.
She looked at her hand and noticed that the heart monitor that she had abandoned last night was back on her finger. Chris must’ve dragged the machine down the hall just so he could reconnect Fiona to it. Fiona rolled her eyes, “so stupid,” she mumbled to herself, referring to the machine.
She then turned further to her side, attempting to look at the things on Chris’s nightstand. Lamp, ash tray and the photo. Fiona quickly grabbed it wanting to take a closer look.
Last night she thought it was just a picture of Chris copied and pasted 3 times. But now that she looks at the image more carefully she can tell that there is a clear difference between each person in the photo.
The one on the left seems serious and grumpy, similar to Chris in a way but this one appears to have a little bit more light in his eyes than Chris does.
The one on the right is probably the happiest out of all three. He’s wearing a smile on his face and hugging the others tightly.
Then last the one in the middle, the most recognizable to Fiona. It was Chris with his messy hair and unreadable face. You could tell just by looking into his dead eyes there was something off about him compared to the others. He looked dark and twisted, the others had little glints of joyful spirits in them but Chris he was just there.
After looking back and forth between each one of them over and over again Fiona decided she had enough of snooping and put the photos back.
She now was set on finding Chris, because she refused to spend the day fully alone like yesterday. Then just like muscle memory she took off her ‘stupid’ heart monitor and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. She then gripped onto the IV pole and waddled her way out of the room.
She took slow steps in the hallway not wanting to trip again especially without Chris around to catch her. And even though she was mainly focused on walking safety, she kept her eyes peeled for any signs of Chris.
She was about to turn a corner until she almost fully ran into one of Chris's maids. “Oh I’m so so sorry,” Fiona blurted out finally looking up at the maids shocked and almost scared expression. Fiona didn’t recognize this maid but yet she had the same reaction as the others.
“That’s alright, sweetheart” the maid quickly spit out before scurrying off down the hall before Fiona could even ask where Chris was. She stood there for a moment collecting her thoughts.
She didn’t want to overthink about it too much but the more she interacted with a maid the more confused she got. It seemed as though all the maids were scared of her suddenly. As if there was a spell casted on them to immediately freak out every time Fiona would even look at them.
Though the behaviors were very strange Fiona didn’t care about that right now. She currently just wanted to find Chris and talk with him just like they were last night.
She wandered down one last hall, gradually losing hope on finding Chris. Then at last she saw a door cracked at the end of the hall. She heard mumbles of her favorite familiar voice.
Once she reached the door she knocked twice even though it was cracked open. She heard Chris yell “come in!” and at the moment her heart fluttered with excitement and nervousness.
She hobbled in and gently closed the door behind her. Chris looked up from the paperwork he was doing, he was shocked for a moment when he saw her. “If you're busy right now I can leave,” Fiona babbled out before even thinking.
Chris stayed silent as he took in Fiona’s figure along with all the wires and lines connected to her. He chuckled to himself, “What’s the point of the heart monitor if you're just gonna keep taking it off? And what did I tell you about walking?” Chris scolded Fiona, almost jokingly but it still left a little sting in Fiona’s heart.
“Come sit, I was just gonna come check on you anyway.” Chris said, seeming more inviting than usual.
Fiona obeyed and sat in the seat right in front of his desk. “How are you feeling?” Chris questioned, “uh…the same I guess.” Chris rolled his eyes, “sweetheart you can be honest with me…” he said endearingly,
“I guess I’m in a little bit of pain but…I feel like every time I talk to you it just goes away.” Fiona murmured,
Chris hummed, sitting back in his chair. “Tell me sweetheart why do you think that is?”
Fiona thought for a moment, not really sure how to word her answer. “I suppose it’s because….your the only person who ever really listens to me. Even if what you're saying back is malicious…at least you’re saying something.”
In that instant it clicked in Chris’s brain why Fiona seemed so attached to him even after all the unkind things he’s said to her. Fiona just wanted to be noticed in the same way she’d notice everyone else and Chris gave that to her. Even if he didn't want to admit it he noticed a lot about her over the course of the past couple days.
Like how she is delicate and fragile majority of the time but can be feisty if she needs to be. When she talks about the things she enjoys her ear perk up and she becomes more bubbly. And his absolute favorite is how clingy she gets when Chris gives her even the slightest bit of attention.
“You know sweetheart…you're something special,” Chris muttered.
Fiona furrowed her eyebrows, “what do you mean?” She asked. Chris smirked slightly “you're very different from other women I have met. You give people the benefit of the doubt even if they might not deserve it. You care about them more than you should, and you cling to them as if they’re your lifeline.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Fiona genuinely asked,
Chris inhaled a sharp breath, “For most yes, for you no” Fiona smiled with his response.
Fiona was about to say something else to Chris to keep the conversation going until there was a loud bang on the door. Followed with two voices coming “Chris! We need to talk NOW” and “Chris open up!"Both Fiona and Chris were startled by the sudden commotion.
Chris took a deep breath and got up from his desk, “just give me a moment sweetheart.” Fiona nodded as Chris made his way to the door. Once he cracked the door open angry voices started going off.
Though the door was only cracked open Fiona could see the faces that were outside the door. She immediately recognized them from the picture. They both had blue eyes just like Chris and had the same characteristics that were shown in the photo.
Then suddenly the slightly taller one locked eyes with her. His eyes started to fill with rage, “Is that the girl?!” He yelled at Chris.
Chris looked back at Fiona for a moment, no words exchanged just a look before exiting the room. She heard yelling coming from outside the door, she got up from her seat in an attempt to hear their argument more clearly.
She put her ear up against the door, “I thought you were only gonna kidnap a girl for a hit! Not to keep as your pet!” One of them yelled,
“Matt calm down…she’s only here because she got shot and needs to heal.” Chris surprisingly kept his voice at a reasonable speaking level.
“So what she got shot! You never care about that shit!” The one named Matt said,
The other started speaking Fiona could tell because their voices sounded significantly different. “Yeah you used to always say ‘a dead body is just another liability taken care of’ so what’s so extraordinary about her. What made your sick and twisted mind want to save her!”
“Because Nick! Because for the first time in my life I felt the need to protect and care for someone. I don’t know why I feel this way suddenly, I just do. So please if you will excuse me-”Chris made an effort to go back to his office but his brothers stopped him.
One of them huffed loudly, “Chris she has a life, a home, a family to go back to you can’t just keep her here forever!”
Chris scoffed, “how would you know if she had any of that you’ve never even spoken to her.”
“Then let us talk to her…just for a minute.” Chris looked back at them coldly as if his dark side suddenly took over.
“No.” Chris coldly said, “Chris come on,” he huffed “I said NO,”
His brothers weren’t giving up though, “You're so possessive over this girl that you won’t let anyone talk to her nor even look at her.”
That was the last straw for Chris, “Leave! NOW! I don’t wanna see your irritating faces anymore.” His brothers looked disappointed as they walked back down. Chris watched them leave, no remorse shown on his face.
Once he knew they were fully gone Chris pushed the door to his office open. He stopped in his tracks noticing that Fiona was no longer in her seat and. Instead right by the door. He chuckled, “hm, nosy much?” Fiona just shrugged her shoulders in return not knowing what to say.
Chris made his way back to his desk in a couple strides. He sat back down in his chair, letting out an exasperated breath. He then looked at Fiona’s frozen body still standing by the door.
Without thinking Chris patted his lap, “come sit,” signaling for Fiona to sit on his lap. Fiona hesitated, slightly shocked by the gesture.
But still scurried her feet to where Chris was and impatiently sat on his lap. Her feet dangled off the floor but she was too distracted to care. She gazed into Chris’s eyes finally getting the chance to see his ocean eyes up close.
She then wrapped her arms around Chris’s neck as he intentionally put his arms around her stomach, drawing gentle circles around her bandages with his fingers.
“I have a question for you,” Chris said in a more endearing and kinder tone. Fiona hummed in response, still staring into Chris’s gaze. “When you're all done healing…would you want to go back to your life with the ballet stuff and what not.”
Fiona contemplated it briefly before violently shaking her head no. “Why would I wanna go back to a place where no one cares about me? Sure I had the lead role but I’ve been gone so long they probably gave it to someone else by now.” She truthfully said,
A tiny grin grew upon Chris’s face, “So you’d want to stay here…forever?”
Chills ran down Fiona’s body, the adrenaline that the word forever gave her was unstoppable. Fiona moved her face closer to Chris’s and whispered, “Forever”
Chris peered into Fiona’s eyes, a hungry look washed over him. He stared at eyes then her lips then back up to her eyes. And before Fiona could even comprehend what was happening suddenly Chris smashed his lips onto Fiona’s. Fiona was stunned for an instant, but quickly melted into the kiss.
Chris gripped onto Fiona’s body tighter, Fiona shrieked as the pain started to settle in her stomach again but she ignored it not wanting to ruin the moment.
Chris pulled out of the passionate kiss abruptly to move down to her collarbone kissing his way up to her neck. In between each kiss he’d mumble possessive words that would make Fiona’s head spin. “Your mine baby,” kiss “forever” kiss “and ever” kiss.
He then began to profusely suck her neck almost as if he wanted to leave a bruise. Fiona’s nails dug into Chris’s back as he did so, closing her eyes from the pleasure.
“Wait, I have a question for you too..” Fiona whimpered,
“And what would that be?” Chris replied in between his rough kisses.
“What was that man talking about when he said you don’t let anyone talk to me?” Chris stopped instantly, lifting his head from the crook in Fiona’s neck.
Chris' jaw immediately tensed up. “He was just making stuff up sweetheart, sometimes when people get angry they tend to blow things out of proportion.” Fiona hummed in response, “I see…so he just made it up to make the situation seem worse?”
“Exactly,”
“Oh.” Fiona looked away for a second, “I’m sorry if I ruined the moment,” she apologized. Chris’s jaw relaxed and he gave her a small smile and cupped her face, “no worries sweetheart, I should get back to work anyway.”
A frown spread on Fiona’s face and Chris immediately caught it. “How about you go sit on the couch right over there while I work and we can continue this later.”
Fiona perked up, “okay!” She cheerfully said. In no time she was off Chris’s lap and laying on the couch near his desk.
For the rest of the evening Fiona watched Chris silently do his work. Patiently waiting for the moment he got up from his desk and announced he was done with his work.
Thinking of that moment sent another shot of adrenaline through Fiona’s body.
But till then, she watched as he signed different papers and put them into different folders. She watched as he ran his hand through his hair to get it out of his face or when he’d flex his hand muscles cause they cramped up. She watched everything he did in just the couple hours he worked.
Because from now on Chris was her orbit, everything in her world revolved around him. She only cared for Chris, not his brothers, not his maids, not anyone in her past life.
Only Chris,

chris keeps his outfits simple and doesn’t really care about fashion as long as it’s comfortable and practical. you’ll almost always catch him in worn jeans, work boots (timberland boots!!), a plain white t shirt, and either a zip-up hoodie, work jacket, or flannel depending on the weather. his clothes are usually in darker colors since they’re bound to get dirty by the end of the day anyway.
even when he’s not working, he dresses almost the exact same. maybe he’ll swap the work boots for sneakers, but that’s about it. chris will wear the same hoodie for years because “it still fits,” no matter how much everyone tells him to buy a new one.
charm is always trying to convince him to wear more color or something that’s actually fashionable, but he refuses every single time. he thinks half the stuff she picks out looks ridiculous, and she thinks he owns way too many hoodies that all look exactly the same. somehow, arguing over each other’s outfits becomes just another normal part of their day.
charm is always gonna love a pop of color in her outfits, simple yet standing. she loves a pair of jeans and a cute fun top with patterns like stripes and polka dots. occasionally a graphic tee or a baby doll top. on lazy days, she’ll throw on a pair of oversized sweatpants with a tank top or hoodie and still somehow make it look cute. she doesn’t really follow trends, she just wears whatever she likes and whatever makes her happy.
her outfits always match her personality—bright, fun, and a little random. she likes adding a cute purse or some simple jewelry, but she never spends forever getting ready. if she thinks it’s cute, she’s wearing it.
chris criticizes her outfits for being inappropriate on construction sites because she shows too much skin and he doesn’t want her getting hurt or tripping over pants that are way too long for her. every time she shows up in another cropped top or flared jeans, he gives her the same lecture while handing her a hard hat and safety vest. she always rolls her eyes, tells him she’s fine, and keeps walking while he complains under his breath. everyone else just watches because it’s basically part of their routine now.
Hiiii! Firstly, I absolutely love love love your theme! Secondly, I have a few questions for your new AU...
Can I see more of Charm and Chris's style?
What type of music do they listen too?
Do either of them have any tattoos?
Eeeekkkkk I'm SOOO excited for more fics! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
omgg thank you so much aww i appreciate it so much! aahhh thank you do much for the questions!
i made two posts for chris’s style and charms style! so go check that out!!
charm;
i think that charms music is super fun and girly and whimsy, but a big RANGE she’ll listen to ANYTHING. i’m feeling audery hobert the most! but of course madison beer, gracie abram’s, taylor swift, olivia rodrigo, beabadoobee, and all the pop girls to be honest! but she doesn’t mind listening to chris’s playlist.
charm does not have any tattoos! but she wants a LOT she’s just scared, she would love the fine line tattoos or maybe a cute whimsy simple fun quote, or stars on her hands and fingers, barely noticeable but cute, but that was in her dreams.
chris;
chris on the other hand, his music is super similar to what he actually listens to! such as don toliver and malcolm todd or role model! he doesn’t really listen to music that often but when he rarely does it’s usually that. although he likes to see charm sketch her work and listen to music, seeing her in her best state. gave him a headache but his heart melted a little, not that he’ll EVER admit it.
chris didn’t have any tattoos and didn’t WANT any tattoos either, he didn’t feel like he actually had anything worthy enough to tattoo and he wouldn’t wanna end up with a whole sleeve of tattoos either. he thinks his brothers look sick with them though. chris didn’t have the patience or time for that anuways.
nova notes - okayayayayayayayya thank you so much for the askes! i love them so much keep them coming!

Warnings: P in v, smut, shower sex, touching each other, kissing
Summary: you and Matt have fun in the shower after your first night at the cabin.
Read the rest, HERE.
You and Matt had barely spoken when you both headed inside, the air thick with the scent of pine and earth. The shower called to both of you at the same time.
Steam filled the small bathroom as the water heated up. Matt stepped in first, his broad shoulders glistening under the spray, and you followed right after. The moment the water hit your skin, his hands found your waist, pulling you close. Your lips met his under the cascading water, soft at first, then deeper, tongues sliding together with growing hunger.
Matt’s fingers traced down your back, gripping your hips as he pressed you gently against the tiled wall. His cock hardened against your thigh, thick and insistent. You reached down, wrapping your hand around him, stroking slowly while he groaned into your mouth. He kissed along your jaw, then lower, sucking lightly at your neck as his hand slipped between your legs. His fingers parted your folds, finding your clit and rubbing in slow, deliberate circles.
You moaned, arching into his touch. He lifted one of your legs, hooking it around his hip, and positioned himself at your entrance. With a steady thrust, he slid inside you, filling you inch by inch. The water poured over both of you as he moved, gentle, deep strokes that built a steady rhythm. Your bodies pressed tight, skin sliding against skin, his cock stretching you perfectly with each push. He kissed you again, passionate and unhurried, swallowing your gasps as his hips rolled against yours.
Matt’s hand cradled the back of your head while he fucked you with that same tender intensity, every thrust sending sparks through your core. You clenched around him, pleasure coiling tighter until it broke. Your orgasm washed over you in waves, your pussy pulsing around his cock. He followed soon after, burying himself deep and spilling hot cum inside you with a low, drawn out groan.
Afterward, you both rinsed off, bodies still humming. Towels wrapped loosely around you, you moved to the bedroom. The sheets felt cool as you climbed in, Matt settling behind you. He pulled you against his chest, your back to his front, making you the little spoon. His arm draped over your waist, holding you close. Soft kisses trailed across your shoulder, his lips warm and lingering, pressing gentle affection into your skin as the night settled around the cottage.
