What could one say to a child? That he had played the game and lost? That the corporate lifestyle and world had nearly killed him? That for every terrible decision made by his idiotic nephew he had received the blame, had heard the mutters of “halfman” and monster? That his father had deigned to let him go after the company branch he was trying to assist had nearly gone under?
… There were some things you didn’t tell children about. This was probably not. So, Tyrion simply shrugged his tiny shoulders. “It didn’t suit me. And I didn’t like my old man breathing down my neck, so I made sure to work at a school quite far away from home.”
Ah. Maybe that had been the wrong question to ask. Himari watched with chagrin as his features warped into a mask of sorts; as if there was something terrible he didn't want to bring to light. And then he spoke, mentioning his old man? So parents had something to do with it? Family?
...Family? This time, it was Himari's turn to frown slightly.
"I...see," she said slowly, nodding her head and pulling her face up into a smile. "Well, I hope that teaching does suit you, then!"
Miss Himari, neh~? What a beautiful name you have~! It would be rude of me not to introduce myself… My name is Xerxes Break. You don’t have to worry, I’m no one suspicious~! You don’t have to trust me either~
Would you mind if we’ll have tea together, Miss Himari~?
"Tea?"
"That sounds like fun, Mister Xerxes!"

Simple was no fun. He could just respond to things with a yes, no, or maybe, but why would he do that when there were so many other possibilities? But a soul this simple spoke simply as well. A little bit like Sansa Stark, actually. Except… even more idealistic, if such a thing was possible.
“You’ve guessed correctly. I used to work in the world of big business, helping to advise a huge company. But it can’t be that different. You’re still telling people what to do; the people just so happen to be younger.”
“So then, is this your first time learning?”
Himari opened her mouth to respond, and then, after a moment of open-mouthed silence, she closed her mouth and slowly shook her head.
"It's not my first time," she said, smiling a little ruefully, "but it's been a while." Because of her naturally frail constitution, Himari had missed the end of elementary and much of her middle school education, so perhaps attending a high school was still a bit of a stretch for her. But she quickly brightened up, and changed the subject along with her mood.
"What made you decide to change occupations, then?"

Medusa uncrossed her legs and stood up, keeping a kind smile on her face. “I imagine you do feel funny, after what you’ve been through.” She said in a pleasant tone. Damn, were humans so bland! This girl was totally, utterly unphased by this! Not slightly interested in how this could have happened, no urge to collect the knowledge of this?
“I would keep resting for right now, okay …” She paused, picking up the clipboard again, scanning her eyes over the page. “Himari?” She said with a smile. The truth was … The girl was completely fine. She could go run a marathon for what anyone cared, there were no left over signs of mortal damage! But Medusa wanted to keep her here. This was the first student to have arrived for this reason, and she wanted to see … just what transpired.
“Now, where do you feel funny, dear?” She asked, noticing the girl tilt her chin downwards. Going forward, the witch lightly placed a hand on her forehead, feeling for any kind of warmth. “Do you have a headache, at all?”
Himari nodded at the doctor's suggestion, although when the lady followed up by addressing her with her name, she couldn't help but jump (from a seating position, nonetheless) slightly. When she looked at the woman a second time, she spotted the clipboard; ah, that would explain how she knew her name. But did she know "what she'd been through?" If she did, how?
She's not quite certain she remembers it fully; she remembers a fiery sort of pain and something flashing in the harsh light, but did the doctor know? Had it been obvious from her corpse?
She had been a corpse.
The doctor's hand on her forehead is a welcome distraction. Himari slowly shakes her head, although one of her hands lightly brushes over her stomach.
"My stomach feels a bit funny," she replies, her fingers lingering over the fabric. She remembers a black box; connect the dots, and then there was pain again. "...and my head's a little fuzzy," she adds, more an afterthought than anything else.
Why, how very polite of you~!
May I ask your name, miss~?
"I'm Himari. Himari Takakura. And, you are...?"

Stein was respected, if not feared, by many of the students back at Shibusen Academy. And if he was, indeed, looked up with fright by some of the others, then it was a lighter form of fear, not even close to the terror he was sure Himari had felt, as though they feared him in a sort of joking manner. After all, only a small group of students, such as Maka and Kid, were actually aware of how bad his insanity had become. The rest merely went by rumor.
The doctor’s hands twitching, he slipped them into his pocket, one closing around the scalpel simply as a way of trying to calm himself down, to distract himself. He only reacted in such a way when unstable… but he only wished to appear in good condition to Himari. It would do them both no good to do otherwise.
“Yes, a doctor.. I used to work at Shibusen, the Death Weapon Meister Academy. It’s in Death City.”
Perhaps she had heard of it. After all, it was rather renown, in some places, at least. Then again, if she wasn’t a meister or a weapon, then there was a good chance she would not understand. Part of him was tempted to ask whether she was familiar with the concept of meisters and their partnered weapons, but Stein was sure it would be best to lay off for now.
She had only just recovered, anyway.
“I’m glad you’re alright, Himari.“ Stein gave a hesitant smile, entirely aware of how wary she naturally was of him. He did not necessarily expect to be forgiven by that point. That would probably be taking things too far. ”Just stay careful.” He’d only barely caught himself from warning her about the dangers at that school, only thinking that for now, it would simply be best for her to remain calm and relax a little.
“And.. if you meet someone named Medusa, you’d best stay away from her.”
He’d seen her, alright. Hopefully the witch wouldn’t strike just yet, but Stein couldn’t be so sure. It wasn’t the same as working in Shibusen, where evil witches were jailed immediately. He had to be especially careful now and watch out for the students that she would most likely prey on, in other words, the weaker ones.
Death death what. Himari had heard a lot about places of Fate, but nothing about places of Death; the doctor's naming of his origins simply flew right over her head. Death Weapon Meister what? Death City?
And now he was suggesting that she stay careful, and stay careful she did; her eyes darted between his face and his hands in his pockets; at least she'd be prepared this time if he pulled something sharp and dangerous out. But for now, he seemed mostly not-currently-intending-on-disemboweling-little-girls. Himari's fists had been, up until now, tightly wrapped in the sheets of the bed she sat in, but she slowly loosened her grip.
Someone named Medusa? Was this lady someone he knew from his Death City place? (Was everyone from that place murderous or something? Did it run in the air? Prerequisite for entrance? That might explain the name.)
Himari nodded nonetheless, making a mental note of the name 'Medusa,' although she had to wonder...
"How do you know her?"

A lot of people were lost when the little dwarf talked. Confusion made them pliable; easy to deal with and utilize. Although it was a little unfair to try and manipulate a young lady who wasn’t even his student. Then again, you never knew who would come in handy.
But her question was a tricky one. The dwarf drummed a couple of fingers on his chin, thinking hard for a couple of seconds before giving his response. “Do you enjoy breathing, or eating, or drinking and sleeping? It depends on the circumstances… but they’re necessities. And for me, this is a necessity. To teach and impart knowledge.” What was he now, Mr. Chips?
“I haven’t taught that much of it yet, though. We’ll see how much I enjoy it.”
Did she enjoy breathing? Kind of, actually. Eating was fun, too, especially when it was meals with the entire family at the table and delicious cooking. Sleeping? Okay she didn't have very many strong feelings about sleeping.
A simple yes or no would have sufficed, although Himari supposed that simple yeses and nos didn't happen too frequently with Mr. Lannister. She nodded a few times, a look of concentration knitting her eyebrows.
"So then, is this your first time teaching?"

“Yes, Life Management Skills.” A small shame, but no worries there. Too many people in the class made it difficult to keep track of people and actually address the needs of the students. If this were a business, for every class you would have sub-teachers under the teacher to make work go more smoothly. But of course, at an actual institution of learning that wasn’t possible.
“Well, Himari… the situation is like this. Every class here is preparing you for examinations IN school. Tests of your ability to memorize and regurgitate information, to analyze and write about texts, or even to create pieces of art or machinery with a box of scraps. But life is constantly testing you. Where will you eat? How will you pay your bills? What about getting a job? My job is to prepare you for THOSE tests. For what will come after you graduate from school. Life Management is, quite seriously, learning how to manage and take control of your life.”
And here he was, ranting again. You couldn’t say the dwarf didn’t like the sound of his own voice.
Uh. Himari blinked a few times as the shorter man continued to elaborate about what his class was all about, trying her best to keep up with him. Quite frankly, this class seemed a bit more complicated than she had really expected! Being an adult was more difficult than she had really thought about, although with a constitution like hers she wasn't sure how far into adulthood she'd actually make it.
At least Mister Lannister seemed to have a great deal of passion for what he taught, which was always inspiring in and of itself! Himari waited until she was certain that he was finished orating to pipe up.
"Do you enjoy what you teach, then, Mr. Lannister?"

It was admirable, seeing how composed she was. Stein carefully approached the foot of her bed, still trying to keep his distance. Maybe he should leave… but the doctor was aware of how much worse the embarrassment would be for him if he just left so abruptly. At least he could try to fix things as best as he could between the two of them.
Her question, however, certainly stopped him in his tracks. There was definitely much more to this girl than met the eye… it was a pity he’d dissected her so soon. At least, that was what Stein tried to believe, but part of him was thoroughly excited by it all… though he tried to keep that side of him deep down where it couldn’t reach him so easily.
“Yes.“ A blatant lie, but he wasn’t about to tell her the utter truth, no. Her own calmness needed to be ensured before he became anything close to truthful about his insanity. Stein didn’t even tell his own best friend when he wasn’t fine, so Himari would be no exception to his personal rule.
“I should be alright. I regret to say, my.. fit of insanity was from a battle I had partaken in before joining this school’s faculty. I suppose one might call it a side-effect, but it should be under control now.”
The doctor fought his usual urge to turn the screw that went through his head. Doing so only would help with calming him, along with helping him think, but for the moment, at least, the girl’s comfort was the most important thing to worry over. He had to do what he could to keep her calm, and, no doubt, creating such a grating noise would disturb her.
“..I am Doctor Franken Stein. Forgive me, but I never quite got your name.”
He did, however, carry a scalpel in the pocket of his lab coat. He always did. And that wasn’t to mention the abilities the doctor was capable of, even without weapons of any kind. Even without specifically using his attacks or defenses, he could sense Himari’s soul. He wasn’t known as the most powerful meister to graduate Shibusen for nothing.
His behavior was odd; first he seemed like he was trying to come closer, and then as if he was the one who wanted to run and bolt, and then he simply stopped dead still, an even odder look decorating his features. It was then that Himari really, fully noticed the screw stuck through his skull, didn't that hurt or anything, and was he really fine with something driven into his head?
Apparently he was. Himari's eyes narrowed slightly; she didn't know the doctor well at all, not nearly well enough to notice when he was lying, but she knew how to catch those little twitches of the face and cadences of the voice that implied that something wasn't quite right. But she wasn't sure she was right on calling his bluff; maybe that was just how he spoke on a regular basis.
Should, not would-- she could catch that one pretty easily, though. And it was a temporary insanity? Himari supposed that would explain things. But was it recurring, too? One of her hands brushes lightly over her stomach, although she soon returns it to rest in her lap with the other.
His fingers appeared to be twitching slightly as he introduced himself, almost as if there was something he wanted to be touching at the time, and his eyes continued to speak of things Himari could never comprehend. So he was a doctor here.
"Himari." Her voice was steady enough, although her mind was racing, "Takakura Himari." Any retorts such as 'never got my name amidst that dissecting action' die before they even form in her head, and her expression instead turns pensive, albeit in more of a serious way than a worried way. "So you're a doctor here?"

He’d hardly noticed her stirring. From out of the corner of his eye, Stein saw, while sitting in his office, the girl sitting up, slowly regaining her bearings. Immediately, it was as though a stifling feeling of guilt had crushed him. Perhaps he should leave, just get out, go outside, anything to escape her noticing him… but the doctor knew that that would be silly of him to do. He owed her quite an apology, though he’d been advised against seeing her.
Hesitantly approaching her, Stein walked into the room, stopping by the threshold to the door. And he hadn’t even gotten the chance to learn her name, as well… how utterly shameful of him. The kids back at Shibusen would be upset at him, if they found out about how he’d behaved.
“Ah.. hello..”
Franken cautiously gazed at her, wary of any discomfort his presence may have caused her. Maybe coming to see her so soon after he’d.. hurt her was a bad idea, after all.
“I’m glad you’re alright.. You are fine, now, right? You don’t hurt anywhere?”
His grey-green gaze showed clear, gentle concern, making a drastic change from his previous bout of madness. ”I’m so sorry about earlier, I.. I’d lost control..“ But how could he even begin to apologize properly? Stein knew that he’d messed up in the worst way possible, but perhaps it was a blessing, the factor of resurrection.
There was someone standing in the doorframe, and when Himari turned her gaze to him, something hit her in the stomach; did she recognize him? He seemed to be a doctor, maybe that was how she knew him? She did come to the infirmary frequently enough. That would explain why his face and the way his glasses glinted in the lowlight seemed familiar to her, but it wouldn't explain the odd feeling in the pit of her stomach.
It wouldn't explain the odd look in his eyes, either, an odd look of concern, caution, and...regret? mixed together in a muddled mess. Or maybe that's just how he always looked.
(No, she remembers something different, she remembers wide eyes and toothy grins and she remembers pain, and her tongue feels leaden in her mouth.)
“I’m glad you’re alright.. You are fine, now, right? You don’t hurt anywhere?”
Pain was nothing but a memory now; she felt a little hollow when she thought about it too hard but that wasn't pain like the burning-open-where-you-shouldn't pain. Himari shook her head, folding her hands in her lap.
And suddenly, the doctor was apologizing; suddenly, Himari remembers a glinting blade and a black box; the black box isn't her death but she is the black box, burning, burning, falling, falling. Her eyes widen and her pupils dilate slightly, but she holds her ground; after all, she's only just woken up and she's not sure she can bolt without suddenly growing faint and falling over.
He looked mostly harmless for the moment, and a quick scan of the room revealed that there were no blades in sight. Himari's muscles relaxed noticeably, and her face reverted to a mostly neutral expression. She shakes her head for the second time, although she still can't remember exactly what this man did to her. And she's still not sure exactly what to say.
"I'm fine now," she finally says, although she's not sure what she means. "...But are you?"

Medusa was sitting with her legs crossed, a clip board in her lap. She flipped through the pages, her eyes narrowing slightly in thought. Even coming from a school where the headmaster was Death them-self, she had never before seen a resurrection quite like this. Was that the right word for this occasion?
It was some sort of trick, that was certain. Science was not nearly far enough to revive this poor little red haired girl. Medusa wanted to know the trick, too. What smoke and mirrors did they use in this school to make this happen? What a useful little gem of knowledge that would be … yes, yes. She would have to find out.
Hearing movement, the blonde witch raised her head, just as the young female stretched her limbs. “Welcome back,” She said with a kind voice, putting the clipboard down. “How are you feeling?”
She'd never really bothered to ask how it was that she continued to survive death after deathly experience; perhaps it was because she still wasn't entirely sure she died; sure, she felt pain and remembered deadly things, but she still didn't think she knew what exactly it meant to live or die.
Maybe some part of her didn't want to think about death too much, death and rebirth, maybe admitting that something brought her back would admit that she was dead at some point.
Her musings were interrupted by the sound of a woman's voice, welcoming her back. From being asleep? No, from being dead. How was she feeling?
"Mmm. I feel a bit funny," she nods her chin downwards, likely towards her stomach, "but otherwise, I'm feeling 100%!"
Was this lady another (yes, there was another doctor, a--) doctor here at the school? Was she the one who had revived her?
