Stein did not know how to react to her moving so close, all he could imagine was him pulling her apart, peeling her apart, her blood dripping over his fingers, still warm from her still-beating heart, that was all he could ever think of, even though he tried hard to distract himself, to pay better attention to the witch’s actions. Keep an eye on her.
It was too much, far too much for him to handle, try as he might have.
The doctor’s mind was spinning away, gears turning as he saw her coming closer, and he nearly shivered back as her fingers stroked through his tousled hair, the motion almost feeling… sickeningly comforting.
Their lips touching merely sealed the deal. He did not even see it as a kiss, and, with a small shudder, even though he did, indeed, notice something foreign entering his strong body, right as it began to register within him that it was a damn vector arrow, a tool of madness, the true insanity hit — his grin grew, teeth showing as he laughed quietly, eyes shining with lunacy.
Stein’s hand moved up from her wrist, up until he had gripped her by the hard shoulder, eyes pinned on her gaze as he nearly held her to snap her, hands trembling.
His laugh grew louder till it was nearly a cackle. ”Are you blind…?”
Without warning, he pushed himself up, his other hand gripping her by the other shoulder as he turned, slamming her against the wall, features twisted by madness as he shouted, ”Look again, Medusa!“
And suddenly there was a scalpel in his hand and he was moving to stab her, but he stopped, as though something had decided for him that such a move would be unwise, and his eyes opened wider, his right hand shaking once more, the scalpel glinting in the dark light. The blade fell, clanking against the floor, and Stein was left gazing emptily at his hand, the grin slowly subsiding as he became more subdued.
His palm moved to his face, gripping himself as he shuddered violently, going down on one knee. ”Ah…hah..”
He was hearing noises, twitches, buzzes, voices, whispers, all commanding him, all confusing him. Stein had not even come to realize that he had lost it entirely. The madness was too deep. There was nothing left.
