A constant search for innovation, the visionary use of materials and a wealth of experience in eyewear design are the defining elements behind MYKITA’s collections. A key factor in the company’s success is its holistic business philosophy, which brings together expertise from all disciplines under a single roof, the MYKITA HAUS.
COLLECTION NO1 SUN contains the classics among the MYKITA family. This collection ranges from the classically elegant to more avant-garde designs, and has seen the addition of countless new forms since its birth. Light as a feather and easy to adapt, these sunglasses offer customers a very wide selection in conjunction with the different lens colours available. From the classic aviator style of the best-selling ROLF model to the self-confident fashion statement – there’s an identity here for everybody. All models are fitted with tinted lenses that have an antireflective coating on the reverse side, offering total defence from UVA and UVB rays as well as maximum glare protection.
COLLECTION NO2 SUN boasts an extensive spectrum of colours. All frames are made from acetate, a material composed of cotton and coloured pigments. New tones are added to the colour range each season – from full-colour to milky and translucent nuances. The cutting-edge hinge technology lends the classic but contemporary forms a distinct character of their own. All models in this collection are fitted with certified precision lenses from the Carl Zeiss brand, guaranteeing maximum protection plus visual perfection. These shades protect and make a statement at the same time.
The MYKITA DECADES SUN line is a marriage of tradition and zeitgeist. With its own colour and design concept linking modern technology with classic forms, the new line features ”Contemporary Classics”. The lightweight stainless steel frames and their matt acetate counterpart appear as a silhouette of their historic predecessor and, in combination with the modern frame colours, make a conscious break from the classic form. The lenses for all models are fitted with a light goldmirrored coating that harmonises with the gold-coated hinge and ensures maximum protection plus visual perfection.
The LITE sunglasses frames are reduced to the essentials; this range’s defining features are a slim frame and temples measuring just three millimeters wide. Contemporary production methods and MYKITA’s patented snap-hinge technology make these models extremely light and comfortable companions for the 21st century. All models in this collection are fitted with certified precision lenses from the Carl Zeiss brand, guaranteeing maximum protection plus visual perfection.
MYKITA MYLON blurs the border between fashion and sports. State-of-the-art design coupled with a material that boasts individual adjustability, low weight and extreme durability make these spectacles both an outstanding sporting companion and a perfect everyday accessory. The manufacturing process for MYLON has won MYKITA recognition in the form of the iF material award. The collection was honoured with the Red Dot design award in the field of product design.
AN EXPLORATION OF MODERN MATERIALS
Modern materials are created for the purpose of boosting us in terms of outlook, sporting performance and everyday life. Modern materials are adapted to human necessities. They combine seemingly contrary elements to form a new material. Finest powder, fused into a three-dimensional shape. Robust and at the same time a snug, contour-hugging fit. With with an organic look on the surface. But down to the last fibre a high-tech product.
The evolution of the MYKITA MYLON frames began with a new production process: Selective Laser Sintering enables the creation of objects in every possible geometrical configuration. Layer by layer a super-fine polyamide powder is turned via CO2 laser sintering into three-dimensional objects that are fed in beforehand in data form. In 2007 MYKITA began experimenting with the polyamide material, aiming to pioneer it in the production of eyewear. Several years of research were invested in the development of a complex, patented process in which the raw surface of the material is prepared and rendered wearable in a series of stages, giving the frames a unique visual and tactile appeal.
MYKITA MYLON glasses are available both as optical and sunglasses fitted with lenses from optical specialist Zeiss. The tinted lenses provide maximum glare control plus 100% protection against UV rays. An exclusive golden anti-reflective coating ensures that unwelcome reflections are reduced to a minimum. A scratch-resistant and hydrophobic nano-coating immediately makes any drops of water bead up and roll off the lenses, thus simplifying the cleaning process while ensuring maximum visual comfort. A range of lens options are available to cater to the individual viewing needs of prescription glasses wearers. MYKITA MYLON sunframes can alternatively be ordered with polarising lenses that absorb reflections e.g. on the piste, in watersports or while driving your car.
MYKITA FIRST marks the long-awaited debut of a children’s eyewear collection by MYKITA. Carrying on the distinctive MYKITA design aesthetic, FIRST introduces a range of seven unisex models: four optical and three sunglass frames. Specifically designed for children aged eight and older, the frames are sturdy yet ultimately light. All glasses are sealed with a rubber coating, giving the entire frame a robust and scratch-resistant surface. Selected models feature bright temple tips that simply add to the fun. MYKITA FIRST sunglasses are fitted with tinted ZEISS lenses that provide maximum glare control, plus 100% protection against UV rays.
MYKITA & BERNHARD WILLHELM
COLLECTION NO1 is the home of calm and collected forms. It lays the foundations for the MYKITA range, which now comprises around a dozen lines. The stainless steel frames are cut out of sheet metal and, in similar style to the Japanese principle of origami, then bent and folded to become a three-dimensional object. The openly displayed snap-hinge system, which supplied the innovative principle for all subsequent collections, symbolises the fundamental design principle of MYKITA; the technical solution must at the same time be an aesthetic one.
MYKITA’s COLLECTION NO2 plays with colours, silhouettes and line widths. All frames are made using acetate – a material comprised of cotton and coloured pigments. The cutting-edge hinge concept developed at the MYKITA HAUS constitutes an aesthetically appealing link between the frame front and temple. This is visible technology with a sophisticated look – the quintessence of the MYKITA form and function philosophy.
Quoting iconic styles from the 20th century, a huge pool of inspiration for shapes and styles, DECADES re-interprets timeless classics in a modern way. From classic Panto frames to the bold contours of the 1960s and the supersized form vocabulary of the 70s and 80s. The translation of the models into MYKITA’s ultra-thin stainless-steel concept gives this collection an unprecedented, contemporary look.
The LITE series sees MYKITA introducing its lightest stainless steel frame concept to date, averaging just 12 grams in weight. The filigree stainless steel frame comprises just three parts, and is distinguished by its radical simplicity.
The MINT COLLECTION is the first collection designed specifically for Asian faces. It reinterprets popular designs from the 20th century and transfers them into the present. This involves giving classic forms of the 1950s and 1960s a makeover in accordance with MYKITA’s stainless steel concept while sensitively incorporating the aesthetic spirit of East Asian cultures.
