March 8, 2006, Iraqi Special Operations operations carried out the first hostage liberation in the Taji area, north of Baghdad. 

The hostage is a former officer in the Iraqi army with the rank of brigadier general at the time, who was kidnapped by a terrorist gang in order to blackmail his family and then kill him. The hostage was freed and 3 gang members were arrested, with a specific operation.
