Tom stared at his friend from the other side of Slytherin´s table at the Great Hall. The ceiling reflected the grey, cold aspect of the sky above. Smiling, he said: "Hey Harry, How´s going?"
The male’s bright orbs glanced at the other through his lashes as his frame rested in one of the rooms large leather chairs. He greatly disliked the fact that the other male had been …staring at him. And then, a unsettling feeling rested in the pit of his stomach.
Uncomfortableness that came from being spoken to by a complete stranger, though as if the stranger had already known him. Theo stood from the chair as the other introduced themself, merely glancing at the hand.
A pause.
His hand slipped into the stranger’s as he gripped it firmly and shook it. Though he had met the other half way, he was quite confused as to just how the other knew of him?Thick brows knitted as his glance finally turned to Tom’s face, mouth set into a thin line.
“—-And how’s that?"
None of Tom’s questions were going to be answered until Theodore himself got some answers.
Tom´s lips curled into a cocky smile. The boy was clever, and reserved. Tom quickly understood that in orden to get information from the boy, he will have to release some of his own. Smiling charmly and staring back without blinking at the boy´s bright eyes, he answered in laid-back tone: "All right, and you?"
"It’s been like this for well over a year - you’re telling me that you only care now? I was under the impression that most of the Wizarding World was aware of my situation." Draco pointed out then with some wariness, arms crossed defensively over his bony chest. As expected, a blush stained across his cheeks at the sudden flow of compliments, before he shook his head. "My father’s dead, Tom. He died not long after he was arrested and the shock of it drove my mother to insanity." He hesitated then, before nodding slowly. "I guess so. Just…promise me that this isn’t some sort of con?"
Tom smiled, looking at the blush in the young wizard´s cheeks. "I promise you. The Malfoy family shall see greatness once again. We can even make an Unbrekeable Vow if you want, I just want to start my plan right away. And the first step involves you,Draco."
Augusta’s head bobbed with each phrase, her glass to her lips.
He had her interested, to say the least. ” I see, ” she remarked. ” Life and Death. What a fascinating topic. ” She knew both well, all too well. Each had come in their turn, shown her their true faces, and departed in a heart beat.
Horcruxes, however, were another story. They were neither Life nor Death. They tampered with the delecate balance between the two, exchanging one for the other. ” Foul things, Horcruxes, ” she mused aloud, relaxing into the sofa.
She allowed a moment of silence, in which she sought and summoned her knowledge on Horcruxes. She let the thoughts rest on the tip of her tongue, posing ” Useful to me? How so?, ” before anything could be let slip.
"A great, old wizarding family with so many unfortunate deaths like the Longbottom could find ways of prolonging, and even brigning back, life very interesting, Am I right? To be totally honest to you, Madame Longbottom, the real purpose of this project is researching about ways of bringing people back to life. As you know, this old, and somewhat dark desire of magic has became real in the past, and we want to make it real nowadays. In order to do it, we well need all the help available, and I think you could be of help. There are strange blank periods on your life, Madame Longbottom, and maybe some of them were related to things like Horcruxes, or at least that´s what I thought. Let me assure that, if we suceed, the Longbottom family will be one of the first to be beneficiated. We, I, just want information, that´s all." Tom said, sporting his most charmful smile and his most seductive voice.
"There you go, Tom, making good ideas like always…" Bella cooed...
"How about you lead the way and I'll follow." She said with a simple roll of her eyes as she smiled over at him. "Eh, not exactly... Same old problems as always, nothing new. Still as many problems as ever in potions class but that's because I only show up two or three times a week because the class and people within it irritate me."
"I happen to go to that class, do I irritate you, dear Bella?" Tom said, smiling."Okay, I´ll lead the way.About the "same problems as always", If you need help at anything just tell me. I happen to want to erase those muggleborns from Hogwarts,so tell me if they try to do anything to you, to have another purpose to kill them." Tom said, as he leaned his hand to her
"But you’re perfectly willing to exploit my talents in order to get what you want? You’re just like the rest…” Draco murmured then and shook his head, before lifting his eyes to regard him with ever increasing suspicion. “Why me? Why are you so determined to help me and my family? And don’t say it’s something do with blood purity, when there’s so many other families you could use, better ones, ones who aren’t convicted criminals.” He stilled then and pinched this bridge of his nose in frustrations. “I don’t want to be used, Tom. How can you convince me you’re different from the others?”
"Indeed, I want to help you and your family specially because you´re in a desperate situation. And it´s my job and my mission to first help pure families in the verge of falling. Besides, you are a very talented wizard with very pretty features. You have great might in you Draco, you just need someone to help in taking it out." Tom said, sighing while he smiled. "And, about convincing you, I could take your father out of jail. Tonight. He´ll be having breakfast with you. Your mother would get out of bed finally. Is that convincing enough for you, Draco? Or do you have to evaluate me more? Feel free to do it. I really mean well for you and your family."
She listened, nodding here and there. Her attention was ensnared when Horcruxes were mentioned. She knew little of them, but she knew of their purpose. Her composure remained, though a shiver longed to travel her spine.
Augusta remained silent, contemplating an answer, and above all contemplating Tom Riddle. She knew little of him, able to count her knowledge of him on a single hand, but she knew Slytherin.
Or perhaps in Slytherin, You’ll make your real friends, Those cunning folk use any means, To achieve their ends.
She tread on thin ice. ” Mister Riddle, ” she began, slow to speak, ” magic this dark should not be discussed sober. ” She released her hold on her breath, standing to retrieve his bottle of Firewhiskey and two glasses. She motioned for him to remain seated.
Upon returning, she placed a glass infront of Tom and herself, pouring a generous amount into each. She commented, after a rather large sip, ” What interest has the Ministry in Horcruxes ? “
"It´s a project about the relationship between life and death, and the thin wall that keeps both worlds separated. As far as I know,Horcruxes are related with both life and death. My job, and I have to say that it´s my second after graduation, it´s to track people that could be knowledgeable about certain topics of the project, ask them if they are willing to collaborate and if they are, register the information given by them. And if I do it well, I will get a job in the main part of the investigation. So, it would be really great for me if you could help me. Besides, the research could be useful for you." Tom said, smiling. Then, he took a long sip of firewhiskey.
"Hi scorp, how are you? Are you up for something really interesting?" Tom asked, while the two were sitting in Slytherin´s common room.
"Totally, dear Bella. I wanted to know if you were up for going to the Three Broomsticks in this afternoon´s excursion. Just the two of us, drink, laugh and talk." Tom said, smiling.
"There you go, Tom, making good ideas like always…" Bella cooed teasingly with a smirk. "Sure, it sounds like it could be fun." Hell, she probably would’ve gone with him anywhere. “I need a break from this school anyways.”
Tom smiled and stretched his hand. "What do you think a walk by the grounds first? Why Bella, have you been studying too hard lately? Is there anything I could help you with?"
"You mean Muggle-borns and half-bloods?" Draco confirmed then, voice soft as he tried to maintain his composure, deciding then and there that he really didn’t like the direction this conversation was heading in. Hesitating then, he slowly shook his head, hoping that the other male wouldn’t take offence to an outright rejection. “Look…I appreciate you wanting my help and everything, but I’m on a very tight leash with the Ministry as it is, and this conversation alone would be enough to send me straight to Azkaban without a trial.” He stiffened then, his mind running over the earlier comments, before he scowled. “Targeting and seducing certain clients? You are not using me like that! I’m not your own personal whore, Tom!”
"Of course not, Draco. They won´t get to touch you. You just have to drag them into the right place, nothing else. They won´t get to use your services. You won´t be "used" again in your life. I have already told you that you don´t deserve something like this to do for living. so I am not going to push you into it. Besides, I am really fair, if you don´t even want to drag certain peoples to certain places, you won´t. You can do other stuff for me." Tom said, smiling. "Yes, I know about your situation with the ministry, that´s why I threw a Confundus Charm on a ministry officer that was on this place´s door. I repeat, I can protect you from them. I´m a powerful wizard, and, besides, there´s still rotten people deep within the Ministry, people that agree with me. I meant only Muggle-borns. Don´t reject me like that, think about it, Draco."
Tom smiled at Blaise while they were sitting in Slytherin´s common room. "How are you, Blaise? Have you been up to anything interesting?
Tom looked at Lupin with pure disgust as he encountered him, while the two were walking in opposite directions, in the school corridor. Smiling wickedly, he said: "You can´t hide anything from me, Lupin. anything."
Tom seated next to Albus Iin Slytherin´s common room. Turning his head towards him and smiling, he said: "Hey Albus, I have an idea. What do you think about sneaking in the night and going to The Three Broomsticks? I heard that tonight there´s a private night show.
Lily felt the chill in the air as he began hissing, just soft enough that one might mistake it for garbled whispers. Basilisk. Hadn’t he joked about that earlier?
She shifted on her feet, glaring at him, before running her fingers through ginger hair.
"Whatever you’re doing, stop it, or I’ll go directly to Dumbledore." Let the Headmaster deal with it, the Headmaster who seemed to be the only one not fooled by Riddle’s charm.
Tom reacted quickly at the sole mention of the headmaster´s name, and stopped talking. Luckily for him, he had had enough time so as to command the beast to kill. He felt her now moving through the castle. Smiling with pure sadism and laughing loudly: "Why Lils? I was just whispering, because I am mad and I think mistakenly that I will be able to eradicate all muggleborns from Hogwarts, don´t I? Don´t be frightened, little Lils." Tom said with a mocking tone, although his smile was much more dangerous than ever. Your minutes are counted, Evans, he thought to himself, with pure pleasure flooding his gaze.
"Sure, then why don´t you hit me with your best shot? Goodbye Evans. See you around." Tom said, turning his back at her, waving his hand and lifting his cheeks into a smile.
She knew the spell, to make him hurt, to teach him a lesson. It was on the tip of her tongue, a spell she shouldn’t have learned but did, because she was curious.
“Cru—” she almost said it, but faltered, closing her eyes and shaking her head. No, that spell was cowardly, and would only prove his point.
She bit her lip, glaring at him as he walked away, before sighing loudly, turning in the opposite direction.
"That´s the problem with most Gryffindors, they are just so righteous." Tom said, sighed as well and kept walking.
"Farewell, Evans. But not for long, I´ll come back, and end your kind.Although, I have to admit, I was having fun. You surprised me, I didn´t expect ability from almost anyone, and less you. It´s a pity that you run away so cowardly. But well, as I have already said, farewell Evans. But remember me, I´ll be back soon."
"I am not a coward!" she shouted, voice reverberating through the corridor. A blush crept over her cheeks as she realized her outburst. It didn’t do well to reveal anything about yourself to Tom Riddle. Didn’t do well at all.
"Sure, then why don´t you hit me with your best shot? Goodbye Evans. See you around." Tom said, turning his back at her, waving his hand and lifting his cheeks into a smile.
She laughed genuinely at his words, shaking her head.
"Friends? No, sweetheart. They’re not your friends. You’re a means to an end for them—they’re using you. The moment you’re in trouble, none of your little loyal friends’ll come for you. You are alone, Tom." Her hands went through her hair as she shifted the bag on her shoulders, still grinning, eyes light. Merlin, he was amusing wasn’t he? In a sort of demented way.
"And, as for eradicating muggleborns, sweetie. Forever is an awful long time. Your little plans won’t work. People won’t let them."
Tom´s face went mad of rage for a moment, but then he cooled off. "I am not his means, for you to know. And, in the case I was, then, I would be a means to an end for them, and they would be a means to me. But, talking abour friends and means, do you happen to know who considers me a friend to him? Severus Snape. He told me everything you ever told him. And then you get to speak about friendship? Open up your eyes Evans. Oh, no, wait! It doesn´t matter, because I am just a means to an end to him, don´t I? Although I would be very pleased to be a mean, if the end is Sev killing you because of your blood. And don´t try to deny it, He told me that he thinks you are a disgusting mudblood." But even his sharp answer wasn´t enough for Tom, that girl had gotten him a bit out of his mind. just. But it was enough. In a low, whispering tone, he began to spoke Parsel. Not to Evans, of course. But to his evil, ancient, just-awaken and just-released beast, that dwelled in the depths of Hogwarts. He commanded her to began the murders, and to put Lily Evans first on the list.
