I have always had an inordinate fondness of the weird and wonderful, from the bizarre to the hidden. What more to encompass this than the dainty cryptic Nephelaphyllum pulchrum. This rare jewel orchid diverges from others, and instead of having beautiful foliage, has leaves that mimic the leaf litter where it grows.

Sadly where this orchid occurs has been a hotspot for wild boar activity, and this species have been trampled to death on that particular trail. Nonetheless, this species should survive in smaller pockets around indonesia

The "variegated" N. Diabolica plants appeared again this year. A corner of the habitat that is very natural, a place like that is fine. Attractive and beautiful colors...like the language of flowers is "Strength in adversity"

On my trip three years ago I saw Nepenthes hamata which was so beautiful and amazing. which grows among sphagnum moss above 1300-2000m. This carnivorous plant catches insects to supplement its nitrogen supply by using liquid nectar as a trap.

On a trip to Shetland I spotted what was probably Drosera rotundifolia (round-leaved sundew) growing amongst sphagnum moss at the edge of a pool. This tiny carnivorous plant catches insects to increase their nitrogen supply using sticky leaves as traps.
