Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)
One of my favorite things about this scene was that by this point, these three animal actors were so fond of each other that the trainers really didn’t have to do much work to make them go to each other like this. They were really that happy to see each other!
That made this so much better!
Why Raising the Minimum Wage Hasn’t Worked
And will never work. It will never work. Because you’re not increasing the amount of money a person has. Ask you grandparents and they’ll probably tell you of a time where they could see a movie and have a bag of popcorn for a buck, and pennies could get children handfuls of candy.
It’s getting to the point where people are debating whether or not pennies should even be used anymore. We’ve had dozens of minimum wage hikes, yet we’re no closer to some “living wage” people are seeking.
On the other hand, items keep becoming more accessible. There are people still alive today who remember when microwaves and televisions were a luxury. Now there’s microwaves around for as little as $20, even the poorest households have televisions, and most Americans have at least one computer.
Inflation has been rampant for basically half a century. Increasing minimum wage only adds to this problem. It’s not that capitalism is a perfect solution, it’s that allowing people to continuously work on and improve products for a consumer base at their leisure is incredibly important. Competition encourages people to sell their product for less to undercut competitors, while seeking out new and more efficient ways of production to lower cost of creating products and creating a more improved product than what came before.
That’s complete and utter nonsense.
This is why raising the minimum wage is important. Because since the 80′s, wages have barely raised at all, while productivity and the amount of work has. People are working insane hours, and they’re not being compensated for it. They’re being paid the same wages I was when I was a teen in the 90′s.
And while some “luxury items” have come down in price over the years, the price of living has INCREASED while our wages stay the same. My apartment which cost $500 a month in 2004 costs around $900 in 2019, yet my wages haven’t increased hardly at all. I was getting paid $7 an hour, now I’m getting paid $10. Food that once cost $5, now costs $12. Yeah, sure, maybe I can get a $20 microwave now… but what good is that if I can’t buy the food I need to live???
If productivity goes up, wages should too. If you’re working longer hours, you should get paid for it. And NOBODY should be working so many hours that they have no time for family or home life. I know people who work two 8 hour jobs a day just to have enough money to pay rent. NOBODY should be working 16 hours a day, 5 days a week, just to SURVIVE.
And that’s not even taking into account the number of ways that companies CHEAT people out of money by following the laws up to a point. For example, people who work 8 hour shifts are supposed to get a 30 minute PAID break. So what do companies do? Make you work 7 hours 55 minutes. Now you have to take two 15 minute UNPAID breaks. Less money for the employee, essentially same amount of work for the companies. Full time employees get health insurance? Schedule them to work 1 hour less than is required to give them health insurance.
And, if I may ask, what kind of uncaring asshole do you have to be to say people don’t deserve to be given a living wage? If people can’t live with this wage hike, then the wage hike wasn’t enough to compensate for inflation. Stop blaming the poor people trying to live day to day and start looking at WHY they’re so poor. It’s not because of lack of effort or skill. It’s because corporations who make BILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR refusing to pay them a few bucks more so they can squeeze the most out of every penny for themselves.
We’re one of the RICHEST countries in the world. We should act like it and start paying people a LIVING WAGE.
And hey, wanna know something fun? People who aren’t worried about living paycheck to paycheck are generally happier and MORE productive. When you eliminate the worry about how you’re gonna survive next week, people are more willing to work and raise the moral of those around them.
PAY PEOPLE WHAT THEY DESERVE.

Inspired by this post (x). I keep thinking about how gender is viewed differently in Qunari society and is determined by job. But what if the job itself WAS their gender?
Bull being from gender nonconforming Qunari society would lead to witty situations like this:
Orlesian: Are you a man or a woman Iron Bull: I’m a spy O: No I meant biologically IB: A Qunari O: No I mean what’s between your legs IB: On a good day, someone’s mouth ],) ],) ],)
