I hate to chime in here, but the thing is that lockdowns over a certain length need to be weighed with the psychological cost on people in them.

If it’s too long it will lead to a rise mental health issues, such as suicides and drug abuse.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully support social distancing, and wear a mask even if there’s a chance I might run into a person, even though I’m very low risk, since I don’t want to be a asymptomatic carrier for a high risk person, such as my late eighties/early nineties year old grandparents (Which is why you should avoid visiting assisted living facilities and prisons).

The people who are refusing to wear masks are idiots, and everyone should take reasonable measures based on their risk, but a lockdown that goes on too long and telling people they can’t even go outside for walks (which is harmless as long as you keep your distance). Will end up killing people as well

Finally every states situation is different, so a one size fits all lockdown won’t work, someone in Wyoming’s situation is going to be very different than someone in New York City.

Yeah but... that’s not OUR fault. That’s the government’s fault for 1) not locking us down sooner, 2) not getting testing done sooner, 3) trying to re-open too soon, and 4) bailing out giant billion dollar mega corporations while only giving unemployed workers peanuts.

Every other developed nation in the world managed to flatten the curve and are seeing a steady decline in cases EXCEPT for America. Why is that?

Well, the more people go outside WITHOUT wearing the masks and taking precautions, the LONGER the lockdown will be. I understand the economy is in the toilet right now, but forcing it open and putting people back to work before we have a vaccine is even MORE dangerous than the mental health problems that might arise from a prolonged lockdown.

If America had done it’s god-damn JOB to protect it’s citizens, we wouldn’t be in this mess, so it’s not fair to put the brunt of the risk on propping up the economy on the average citizen who had no control over any of this. Be mad at the government for taking too long, and not doing enough to stop things.

Anime VHS tapes were often not copy-protected, so a tactic I often employed as a kid was to rent Anime from the local video rental store, hook up 2 VHS players, and copy them.

I remember once my Aunt brought me 5 VHS tapes of The Slayers anime because she thought the fireball spell “dragon slave” sounded like “dragon ball” and got confused. She brought the tapes to my house at like 8pm. I had to go to bed soon because I had school the next day, and she was gonna stay overnight and leave with the tapes in the morning to return them... Meaning I only had the night to copy it.

Copying from VHS to VHS takes the same amount of time as if you were watching them anyway, so I had to stay up all night because I had to swap out the tapes when one ended. I was VERY tired the next day, but at least I got all 5 tapes copied! lol

The epidemic began on September 13, 2005, when Blizzard introduced a new raid called Zul’Gurub into the game as part of a new update. Its end boss, Hakkar, could affect players by using a debuff called Corrupted Blood, a disease that damages players over time, this one specifically doing significant damage. I haven’t had this many homophobic responses for any of the other LGBTQA+ stuff I’ve posted before… so I wonder why THIS touched such a nerve? Thankfully all you lovely peeps here on tumblr have been very supportive and nice, but everywhere else I posted this (facebook + instagram) got a TON of homophobic responses and hate messages. I had a lot of work curating things and deleting/banning the negativity.

Again, not sure why THIS comic is the one that sparked such an uproar. Is it because they’re Animal Crossing characters? Is it because they’re male? Dunno what the issue is, but I did have fun trolling the homophobes nevertheless!

Incidentally, it REALLY saddens me how many people feel COMPELLED to remind everyone that Nintendo hasn’t officially said they’re a gay couple and that they’re just “business partners.” Fuck off with that bring-down. Let people enjoy things without the soul crushing reminder of the shitty reality we all live in, alright? You’re just being a buzzkill to score technicality points and it’s rude AF.

I wouldn’t say it’s irrational, as all my interests tend to be animated kids shows that no one else wants to watch, or immediately dismisses as a kid’s show.

I’m not interested in watching a show where the characters randomly start having sex in the middle of a scene, nor am I into shows where there’s just randomly blood and guts everywhere.

But there are hardly any “popular” shows out there that don’t have those random elements in them.

They’re either overly erotic or overly bloody, or everyone does drugs and gets drunk and I’m just not into that?

When it comes to finding shows, you either get shows geared towards kids or shows rated TV-14 but have some of the most adult themes in them ever.

Now maybe it’s because I grew up pretty sheltered, but I feel like I can’t be the only one?

And I personally would rather watch shows like Miraculous, or Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, or Steven Universe, or Gravity Falls, or We Bare Bears or Teen Titans Go or a bajillion other “kids shows” because they make me happy, but for some reason people want to make you feel bad about that?

Like, yes, I like cartoons, but that’s because I don’t want to grow up that fast by watching all these other things? I just want to enjoy a nice simple kids show that reminds me of fun and joy and happiness and not death and murder and teenagers sneaking off and doing drugs and drinking alcohol.

It makes you feel like your interests are wrong and that there’s something wrong with you for liking those things and I don’t understand it?

Just let people like what they like and if you don’t agree then just let it go.

Or maybe try to understand why they like it instead of telling them they need to grow up and watch different shows.

If someone is into different things than you don’t berate them for it, just try to understand them and be decent human beings.

I’m sorry if your nostalgia goggles are on too tight, but the original show is pretty awful. That’s just a fact. It was a low budget show riddled with animation mistakes and recycled cels, and the plots were nonsensical even for shows in the 80′s.

Noelle is proud of having a lot of women writers on a show while working in an industry that is still extremely gendered and stacked against women? If I were her, I’d be bragging too! That’s a big deal! She should be proud!

You understand that concept that you can like a show, while acknowledging it’s flaws… right? Please tell me you understand that if someone criticizes a show you like, that’s not a criticism of you as a person. I need to know you understand this really basic concept.

And gee… when a lot of old-school “fans” dunked on her designs and made memes about how She-Ra looked like a boy because they couldn’t see her tits… I’d be a little resentful too. The show she’s making isn’t FOR the old fans, it’s for NEW fans. Kids today.

filmation had men and women behind the show. the animation had its flaws but it was done with love. it help animators learn about animation once they got out of college. it gave them a job. the studio was like a family it created their future.using cheap animation doesn’t make it awful. and it help launched many animators that will work on future shows during the 80s and 90s.

Cultural significance doesn’t denote quality. The original She-Ra was important, and yes, it did jump start a lot of people’s careers. Not gonna deny that. But that doesn’t mean that the animation, no matter how much “love” they put into it, wasn’t bad, or that the writing was cheesy, or that the toys were churned out to make a quick buck re-using the same molds and designs with swapped color pallets to save money.

And what about THIS version of She-Ra? A lot of people working on it NOW are doing so just out of college. It gave THEM a job. It created a family of artists who all put a lot of love and care into their work, and launched a lot of people’s careers in the industry. Are they to be dismissed and chided because it’s not the She-Ra from the 80′s?

The new She-Ra is a LOVE LETTER to the original show, with tons of references and characters re-imagined and taking obscure plots that not even the most die-hard She-Ra lore fans keep track of and using them to expand the show into what it is. You’ve projected qualities onto a person you’ve never met and based your “opinion” of them on those imagined qualities. That’s a horrible thing to do, and very disingenuous. So please don’t do that.

They proved that they can do this. It has been proven that throughout all of the difficulties, it can be done. In every channel, in every series. Rebecca Sugar, Noelle Stevenson, Bryke, Rooster Teeth, DC, Marvel and many more creators have proved that if you want this enough as a director and a creator, you can do this. You CAN represent LGBTQA+ and include it in your show, subtlety or not.

It can happen on Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Networks, Netflix, Anime and many more. It can be done everywhere. From here on out, a cartoon show that does not have a presentation of at least one LGBTQA+ couple or person, does not reach and expectations and stands way below common sense standarts for me.

Yikes, the comment section is pretty awful on this post... sorry to see that.

I don’t want to contribute to that, but I do have an issue with the idea that because these shows have had representation, going forward all shows should have representation. Because sadly it’s not that easy. This isn’t like a game where you unlock abilities as you move forward. Behind the scenes there are a lot of factors we don’t see and despite a lot of progress that has been made, there’s still a lot of people in charge that contribute to stifling that progress.

And don’t take it from me, take it from someone who worked on She-Ra:

That’s Rae Geiger, storyboard artist and designer who worked on She-Ra: Princesses of Power.

I agree, I want there to be better representation going forward. And because of shows like Steven Universe, Korra, She-Ra and the like... progress HAS been made. But that progress came through those creators FIGHTING HARD to get what you see up on the screen. And just because we got something in those specific shows, doesn’t mean a big corporation like, say, Disney is gonna follow suite if there aren’t people working for them and fighting too. There’s still a lot of people in charge who think this sort of progress is dangerous to kids and who actively try to remove this content from shows. And going forward it’s not gonna be any different.

It CAN happen, but only because so many people behind the scenes FOUGHT for it. And since fighting for it might mean your job, or your career, I can understand why not everyone would include diversity as their top priority. We’re gonna get there, don’t you worry. It’s only a matter of time. But it’s not gonna be an easy fight and thinking that just because She-Ra did it, means other shows will be able to do it too is kinda a false equivalence.

I just don’t want you all to get your hopes up. It’s gonna take time and it’s gonna be ROUGH even still. But please, have faith.

So first of all, I agree with you! I am actually on board with everything that you said. BUT, if you read closely into what I said, I specifaclly wrote that it could only be one LGBTQA+ character, and it could be delivered subtlety (or not). If you read my post closely - it is clearly written there.

Also, I just want to add that I never said that such show would be awful, terrible, disgusting or unworthy. I have never even said that such a show would not be good! It could be an amazing show, BUT - it will be below standars for me. Pay attention closely, this was the only thing that I actually wrote. That a show without at least one LGBTQA+ (even very subtle) presentation would be below standars for me.

Because yes, LGBTQA+ presentation of any kind is a standard of mine, and a legitmate one as well. So yes, naturally, a cartoon show that does not even have that - is below that standard in my opinion. That is not anything bad, and it could still be an amazing show, but this is the one part that will truly dissapoint me and not reach one of my standarts, and I wouldn't want to be dishonest about that.

I’m sorry if my response came across as a bit, well... cross. It wasn’t meant to be. I’ve been dealing with a lot of people not understanding how shows are made and not understanding that a lot of stuff happens behind the scenes that we, as fans, are not privy to. As such I was tailoring my reply to that mindset.

I, too, want better and more representation in shows, but it can be a little naive to assume that just because She-Ra did this, the doors are wide open from now on. But I didn’t mean for my reply to suggest that you aren’t valid in wanting that representation from now on either. I just want people to have realistic expectations going forward, that’s all.

That does not invalidate your personal preferences, however, and you are absolutely free to judge shows with little to no LGBTQA+ representation lower or not reaching your standards. Thank you for being kind about this, and I hope I didn’t overstep my boundaries too much.
