I’ve been really happy lately. I’m working on my manuscript, about five major paintings and two elaborate projects on the side plus apps for my masters abroad and I’ve freed up time from my freelance work to be able to do this. It took YEARS to get here but it feels like every piece is just falling into perfect alignment.

I’ve been thinking about it and I think the reason why novels written by Asian women are so effective is because they don’t skate around the truth, try to make it delicate or offer redemption where there’s no room for any. Nothing is romanticized nor capitulated. But there’s a clear, careful exploration of finding humanity even in dark characters that reek of war and violence. They don’t shy away from the flame, they stand in front of it. And if it burns, so be it. If it turns the plot upside down they let it. If it turns people on each other, exposing the rot of suffering and the slow decay at the hands of cruelty, the domino effect of abuse—they’re willing to write about every single detail down to the marrow. No angle is spared, no truth omitted, a direct mirror to reality like no other.

don’t be hesitant when you’re brought to the highs of your life. I promise your happiness doesn’t come with a cost. it’s okay to revel in it and bask — I hope you stay for a while.

honestly I find it so, so worth it being a full-time artist. I love that I get to travel almost every weekend. I love how I’m enthused to make more art now that I have rich pockets of time throughout the day to be inspired. I love that my life has room for family dinners, weekly brunches with friends and hours of shopping at the farmers market and vintage shops along cobblestone streets. I could never look back on corporate life after this again. creative pursuit is the joy of my life.
