THE  PREMISE  OF  “ JOLENE “  IS  SEEMINGLY  SIMPLE  ;   jolene,   a beautiful woman,   threatens the relationship of dolly parton and her unnamed boyfriend.   it can be  assumed  that jolene is something of a homewrecker  ---  or perhaps that dolly’s boyfriend is,   no doubt,   a   scumbag. 

either way,    the interpretation of this song can be taken in a more  INSIDIOUS  MANNER.    picture this:   jolene,   a woman who seduces men and then murders them,   avenging their spouses  /   significant others.    a black widow personified,    an  ophelia  with a   hero complex.

              “ i’m begging of you,  please,   don’t take my man. “

it’s an interesting concept.   dolly,   who  knows  the extent to which jolene takes things.   who knows that she will not only be grieving her boyfriend’s cheating nature but,  also,   his  DEATH.

this is how i will base my interpretation.      jolene,     the murderer,     the seductress,      the   sociopath.
