Thinking about Jacob having a mean streak... Like how he gets aggressive when he feels he’s being attacked (Caleb appearance, certain times he’s criticized like when Gregory tells him not to break up w/ Zach like that)… His weird relationship w/ Morton (having a scapegoat for his anger? he Really takes advantage of having someone he’s “allowed” to hate for their sexism/xenophobia/etc.).

Yet at the same time he rarely gets angry at people he cares about & if anything is a total doormat. His generally people-pleasing personality makes those moments of aggression all the more interesting.

trinity santos: gives a homeless guy she's known for 15 hours a place to stay and then covers his share of the rent for 10 months while he finishes school, consistently worries he'll be taken advantage of because he's a nice guy never mind the fact she's literally letting him live with her rent free, identifies and scares the shit out of a child molester where the system is otherwise failing, talks a stranger who attempted to end his life into seeking help, doggedly pursues a potential child abuse case and when she's wrong accepts it without pushback and turns her attention to treatment and being a good doctor, turns away from her charting that's stressing her out to go comfort a friend who lost a patient, invites mel out to do a stress relieving activity after what she sees is an incredibly taxing day, etc etc etc

Ik everybody hates Ava and o’shon but I like them and I think they have the potential to be the best couple and afford Ava ALOT of growth as a character.

Somebody said every time they have an episode it shows them why Ava and oshon aren’t meant to be together with a three second cute bandaid over the top to keep up the appearance that they’re perfect. And I just don’t see it that way at all. In my opinion, I think it’s an accurate depiction of what it looks like when a man who is reserved is with a flamboyant, self assured (slightly self centered) woman.

I think a lot of what we’ve seen of them is growing pains of a new relationship with wildly different personality types. And just cause they’re so different doesn’t mean they’re not meant to be together. it’s alot of Ava being herself and oshon learning to love her as herself. While also it’s oshon teaching her that some of her ways are not necessarily the best way to do things, in a way that doesn’t attack her being. A lot of Ava’s character is a defense mechanism, the humor and shallowness is armor that she hides behind because deep down SHE feels like a loser or a failure or not worthy of soft and caring love.

She’s never been with a man that has a schedule to give her attention because she never had a dad that had a schedule to give her attention, it’s why she’s so comfortable in those relationships with athletes. Contrary to what she might portray it’s not the flashy lifestyle that she gets from them(cause it’s clear she can do well on her own) it’s the fact that she doesn’t have to be looked at too long or hard when a guy is always on the court. And I think that’s where all of the issues with oshon stem from, he’s equal to her. He can SEE HER and she’s not comfortable being loved at eye level. There’s always some kind of pedestal involved.

Do I think they still have a ways to go? FOR SURE. But I do think they could go the distance.
