i don’t mind exo not being on top anymore. i don’t mind them not winning any big awards. it’s the cycle of kpop and it will eventually happen to every group. what i don’t appreciate is mnet, reporters, the industry and its various awards shows, forcibly trying to drag exo from the top spot. if they are declining as a natural process then so be it, but that’s clearly not the case. in 2017, exo has broken their physical records & kokobop is their most successful single since growl. exo, five years into their careers, are still breaking records left and right when the typical shelf life of a kpop group is five years. they are quadruple million sellers, and the only boy group to achieve a #1 on gaon’s monthly digital charts this year. clearly, they are not on the decline yet, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with the way mnet & co are trying to pretend they are has-beens. if you didn’t want exo to sweep daesangs every year, then implement rules that limit how many daesangs an artist can get consecutively. exo will bow out gracefully & i’m sure exols will respect and accept that. you don’t have to blatantly disrespect exo, and their fans to their faces (MAMA 2017) or give out some internal data bullshit (Melon Music Awards 2016) to justify why you don’t want to give exo the awards they rightfully earned.
you don’t have to use shady ass, bullshit schemes to embarrass exo like that. you don’t have to lie and pretend like exo isn’t still the top boy group of kpop of this generation.
