The Infinity Saga should’ve been titled The Incel Saga.

Here’s why:

Steve Rogers is an incel self-insert hero. He starts off as a guy who doesn’t have any luck with the ladies, but fancies himself the good guy who always knows what’s right (even when he’s wrong). Because of Steve’s “winning personality,” he’s gifted with a pussy-slayer bod and women proceed to throw themselves at him. Furthermore, Steve is never framed as being in the wrong, is never punished for his mistakes, and we’re constantly told how good he is when his actions should speak for itself.

But what is an incel story without an antagonist–or at least a foil? Cue the “Chad” of the story: Tony Stark. Tony is the “Chad” because he starts off this story as a good-looking, egotistical playboy, but then as the story unfolds, despite Tony becoming a better man, he is often the one portrayed as making mistakes, screwing up, and punished for his actions. He suffers mental and physical trauma, and is treated as an outsider on a team he helped put together (and bankrolls). Weirder still, is even though Tony and Pepper become a couple early on in the saga, Tony is still framed as a womanizer in the media and even in the story itself (see: The Avengers). 

And it’s Tony–the Chad of this saga–who ultimately dies a painful, horrible death after finally having found true happiness with his wife and child–all under the guise of a “redemption” he didn’t really need in the first place. It’s almost as though he dies just because of what he represents.

While Steve–the incelish self-insert–is rewarded with a magical ability to go back in time to finally get laid–and that’s literally the final shot of this entire 22 film saga. With Steve getting his reward: a woman. A woman who is not given one line of dialogue in the entire film (!). A woman whose history ends up getting erased all for Steve’s benefit. A woman whose dying words to Steve–asking him to move on–were coldly ignored.

Her name is Peggy Carter, but that hardly seems important given her role in The Incel Saga. What matters most is her relevance to Steve–and that’s as a prize.

Me: The only surprising thing about it is that we all thought it was finally Steve’s turn to attempt a sacrifice play in an Avengers film, since Tony had been the only Avenger to make a sacrifice play in all three of the previous instalments. But, just as every other Avengers film Steve’s been in, he didn’t. Shocking.
