THE POSTERCHILDREN BOOK CLUB
Hey folks!
Sometimes, itās more fun to read (and discuss the book) with friends. So, whether you have read Origins and every Timely Tales ten times, or you have no idea who these kids are and why they have posters, I wanted to give you an invite to The Posterchildren Book Club.
I figured The Posterchildren: Origins is a good place to start. (Buy the ebook on gumroadsĀ or smashwords|Buy a physical copy)
The Schedule
(For our new readers - the first book is split up into Issues, as opposed to chapters)
September 4 - 10 | Issue #1 September 11 - 17 | Issue #2 September 18 - 24 | Issue #3 September 25 - October 1 | Issue #4 October 2 - 8 | Issue #5 October 9 - 15 | Issue #6 October 16 - 22 | Issue #7 October 23 - 29 | Issue #8
After we finish Origins, weāll move on to the Timely Tales! Again, for new readers - Timely Tales are short(ish) stories, often filling in the history of the world or the characters in it. We can decide whether we want to read them chronologically in world or in the order they were written once we get a little closer to starting them?
You can read along and liveblog your reread with the tag #posterchildrenbookclub, or I went ahead and made a discordĀ to chat in, as well.Ā
Finally, for anyone seeing this who hasnāt read The Posterchildren and needs some convincing:
The Posterchildren is a series written by Kitty Burroughs ( @quipquipquip on tumblr ), following a bunch of kids trying to become superheroes. Or is it a look at a corrupt government agency? Or is it a bunch of loosely connected queer love stories?
Spoilers: Itās all that and more. If youāve ever caught yourself frustrated with the lack of queer characters, the lack of racial diversity, the lack of disabled rep, the way everyone looks the same in the media weāre surrounded by, then you should definitely check out The Posterchildren.Ā
Sometimes, a super magnificent family is a fat fashion icon with a fiery personality, a superstrong stress baker, a circus boy with the mind of a peacock and the body of a slinky, a speedy sapphic sunshine of a girl, a grouchy healer with a serious family reputation, a displaced WWII veteran, and a badass Latina lady who could probably carry this whole team if she had to, so donāt make her, guys.
Also, most of them are queer? And in the wider universe youāve got amazing trans characters, youāve got tons of characters with disabilities, youāve got one of the most tragic superpowered families Iāve ever cried over⦠There are moments that are heavy and beautiful, there are moments where these kids are just being kids and messing around, and itās all so dang good. Also, some of the freshest takes on superpowers and the communities that form around them. Colour-coded powers, yāall.
One of those pretty powerpoints telling you to read itĀ (warning: some spoilers)
Anyway, hopefully some of yāall at least will join me in this (re)read of this amazing series!
Also, if you canāt afford it right now, I am doing a giveaway for The Posterchildren - Origins.Ā
Hey, the world is kinda being rough right now, and I have a spare five dollars, and I know sometimes a good book goes a long way.
So Iām doing a giveaway!Ā
Reblog this before midnight (PST), September 4th, and Iāll pick a winner! The winner will get an ebook copy of The Posterchildren, by Kitty Burroughs.
Thatās just in time to join in on the book club I made for this awesome series! If you want. No pressure.
More info about the book, why you wanna read it, and the book club in this post.
In short, itās a book about kids trying to become superheroes. Tons of queer kids, a super diverse cast in general, and some absolutely amazing friendships. Whatās not to like about that?
EDIT: Weāre now giving away two copies! The lovely @czarrish has also offered to buy a copy for a lucky winner! So thatās super extra rad!

To add onto thisā¦. info from someone who screens for STDs: 1. Condoms protect against fluid 2. Anything skin to skin can be contracted 3. A new form of Gonorhea has developed that is resistant to antibiotics 4. If you have unprotected sex and get BV or a yeast infection it is because your vaginal pH does not mix well with the pH of his semen 5. That means you can get HIV 6. MORE THAN HALF OF THE POPULATION HAS HERPES 7. Type 1 is usually oral (cold sores) Type 2 is genital 8. You can give someone genital herpes if you have a cold sore and give them head 9. You can give someone cold sores if have genital herpes and receive head 10. Herpes lies dormant for years sometimes so you could have gotten it 10 years ago and it just now pops up 11. Most screening sites will not test for it, unless asked, because it cause problems within a relationship 12. Untreated chlamidiya (šš½ Iām trying) can make you infertile
