      Boss? Oh, he’s already fond of his new victim subordinate! He looks over the contract, eyeing the blood splatter that the other oh so graciously spat onto the document. “Y’know, I was going to use this to see how bad your handwriting is, but I suppose I can only assume it’s as abysmal as your fighting skills.”

     With a snap of his fingers, Idate finds himself feeling better than ever. In fact, he could even call himself rejuvenated! Everything is back in place, his bones are healed, his blood is back in his body, just as the specter promised. However, he’ll also realize that he’s feeling… A bit emptier than usual. Yep, while Snatcher distracted Idate with his fixed body, the former decided to take his soul from his body! He looks it over, frowning. It’s not the greatest soul he’s ever obtained, but it is a soul, so he shouldn’t be complaining. Besides, it’s only somewhat better that he took it from the other by force. That makes up for its flaws, surely.

     “Nothing to lose, everything to gain,” he muses, smiling as he watches the other pick himself up. Before he could leave, however, Snatcher throws an arm around the other’s shoulders. “As per your contract, you’re serving me now until further notice. That means you have to stick with me for the entirety of this cruise, in case you weren’t aware.”

     Truth be told, he doesn’t have an exact plan for what to do with this new minion of his. Probably find a use for him, and dispose of him as necessary, just like with everyone else. Snatcher has to admit, though: he seems a lot more capable than most others that he forces under his wing. He’s always liked the idea of having a bodyguard, even if he could take care of himself just fine.

     “Boss is a good name to use for me, personally, but you can also can call me Snatcher. Say, what’s your name, anyway? Didn’t quite catch it.”

     the reconstruction process was... shorter than idate thought it would be. sure, he knows that healing magic was a fickle thing with results that varied from person to person, but he underestimated just what else the specter was capable of. still, he wouldn’t complain as long as it did its job. in the blink of an eye his entire body shed itself of pain and imperfection, leaving idate looking as whole and handsome as he did before.

     patting down his body, even his possessions seemed to be in their rightful places, and he wastes no time in lighting a much needed cigarette. the only problem was, the nicotine didn’t bring him complete relief as it usually would. idate ran his hand over his fin, his teeth, everything that the snatcher had mangled, before settling on his chest.

     “nothing to lose but a dirty old soul,” idate thought aloud, taking a drag of his cigarette before shrugging and smiling towards the specter. “not like i was using it anyway, ahaha.”

     he almost forgot about the whole contract thing and would have gone walking off if not for the specter pulling him back. at least this time it wasn’t a touch made with ill intent, and idate simply shoved his hands into his pockets as snatcher went into the terms of their deal.

     “ah, yeah, i heard you the first time.” no you didn’t. you almost forgot. “that works out for the both of us, then. i’ve got it in with the captain, so i can probably put in a good word for you.” knowing snatcher, though, he doesn’t really have a choice in the matter. 

     idate will learn to brush it off at least, as long as this ‘staying with the boss’ thing isn’t permanent. he still has so much strolling left in him! but... he’d also be lying if he said that he wasn’t interested in seeing where all of this went. will new sights and opponents be in store? perhaps he can even find a way to wriggle out of the deal along the way.

     “eh? i’ll keep that in mind then, snatch.” he probably won’t approve of the nickname, but hey, it’s the little defiances that make these things worth it. hell, he’s already slipping out of his boss’ grip and heading towards the stairs out of the hold. “you can just call me idate. and if you don’t mind, i need to grab something to eat. this new body is craving for some seal meat...”

     Snatcher watches the other intently, high heeled boot still digging into his back. The shaky breath–the way he says it, even–causes the specter to want to push his luck even more. But, at this point, he knows this is the best he’s going to get out of the other. Trying to ask for more from a dying animal isn’t going to do either of them much good. So, he shrugs, saying, “I’ll take it. I’d say you’re on your last legs, but I took care of that pretty well, huh?”

     Stepping off of his back, Snatcher crouches down, grabbing Idate by his hair to force him to look directly at him. He’s as calm as ever, speaking to the other as if this were a normal occurrence. Nothing out of the ordinary here, no sir! “You’ve gotten my attention, though. I’ll say you’re one of the luckier ones, really! Now, pay attention.”

     He laughs after saying that. They both know there’s no way he can ignore him at this point! If he didn’t want to be in this situation, he shouldn’t have tried to fight back as much as he had. So, in a sense, this is Idate’s fault. “Let’s make a deal, a one of a kind sort of thing. I can help you out of this predicament that you’ve gotten yourself into: I’ll heal you completely. No strings attached, you’ll be alive, your teeth intact, the good stuff.”

     Snatcher tilts his head to the side, eyes filled with glee as he watches the other. Blood’s getting on his hands, which he isn’t so happy with, but the look of helplessness on his face makes up for it. “But, well, you’ll have to agree to let me possess your soul, and serve me indefinitely. I’m sure I’ll find a use for you–you’re perfectly capable when, well, you’re not defying me.”

     What’s that? A paper contract suddenly appearing in front of the orca? Yes, it is, there’s no mistaking it. There’s even a quill pen for him to use! How generous, especially considering how Snatcher’s been treating him so far.

     “Your arm still works, right? C’mon, don’t stress the details, just sign your name here at the bottom! Even a vague scribble will be enough for me.”

     ahaha, idate saw what he did there. that’s funny, breaking his legs to make a last leg joke. haha. that’s hilarious. he’d laugh along with it if it didn’t already hurt enough to breathe and hack up blood through a broken jaw. no, he’s just gonna lay here instead and let some of his tension fall away, knowing that it can’t get much worse from here as long as he cooperates with this guy.

     he holds back a slight sneer when snatcher forces his eyes on him again, this time pulling at blood-drenched hair. he’s not sure how he can consider himself lucky in this position, but he blinks lazily to show that he at least heard and is listening to him. “sure, w-whatever you say.”

     snatcher suddenly goes on about a deal, and the frantic animal clawing for escape is telling him not to take it. of course, idate won’t listen to it, as the presence in his mind grasping for release from the pain screams a hell of a lot louder than anything else. but then comes the ‘however,’ and idate has known more than his fair share of dubious, sleazy motherfuckers to know that this won’t end well for him in the long run. 

     is he still going to take it? hell yeah! whatever saves his ass in the present! it didn’t help that he threw another little compliment in there, the kind that would usually make idate preen like the smug apex predator he is.

     “eh, i’ve g-got nothin’ t’lose r-right now,” he says, managing the softest of smirks as his eyes glaze over the words on the page. this law stuff never really mattered to idate, being the wild animal that he is, but there was always a first for everything. 

     moving and subsequently wincing from trying to move his arms and wrists causes idate to groan before he gets the cheeky idea to spit a glob of blood onto the page instead. no better signature than one of his very blood, right?

     “t-there. go ahead ‘nd f-fix me up any time now, boss.”

     Waited? Absolutely laughable. When Snatcher wants something, he gets it, regardless of what it takes. In this case, that involves grabbing Idate by his tail roughly, grinning as he stops the animal in his tracks. “Funny,” he says, “you thought I was giving you a choice.” He pulls on the tail, using it as a means to pull Idate back toward him. The specter is careful not to tear it clean off–he still needs it intact for the time being.

     With the momentum from the pull, Idate stumbles back. This is exactly where the other wants him–by having him this close, he’s able to swing an arm around his throat, forcing him into Snatcher’s grasp. With one arm holding him against his body and the other on his shoulder, he puts his head on the shoulder not currently in his grasp. “Thank you for showing me the error of my ways,” he whispers into Idate’s ear. “I’ll know better the next time we get physical like this.”

     Before he can give the orca time to make sense of his message, Snatcher roughly kicks the back of his knees, letting him go so he’ll fall forward onto the ground. Just for good measure, he stomps directly onto the back of his legs, walking directly on his body and stopping once he reaches his backside. He eyes the tail for a moment, considering doing something to it as well, but Snatcher is sure he’s incapacitated this beast at this point in time.

     “You’re one heck of a fighter, I’ll give you that,” he says, digging one of his heels into his back. “Too bad that meant I had to do away with your, well, entire body like this, but hey! It’s fine, you’re stuck here now. Now, will you reconsider my offer, or are you so eager to see what else I’m capable of?”

     wow. idate really is gunning for that dumbass of the year award, huh? this entire encounter is one big “man, he should’ve seen this coming,” and yet still proceeds to act without any sort of foresight. trying to run from a being who can match and even exceed his own speed when given the chance wasn’t the greatest of choices, but idate will blame it on the injuries clouding his judgement. 

     if it weren’t for snatcher suddenly grabbing him around the neck, idate would have fallen face first into the ground. considering the way the specter leans in and whispers some bittersweet nothings into his ears, he might have preferred the former. ( he won’t even begin to address the way it made him heat up on the inside, though. if only just a little bit. )

     truly not having much time to respond to snatcher’s words, the orca groans out in pain as his last means of escape are stomped into submission, the crack of fracturing kneecaps grossly sounding out while the white-hot pain shoots up into the rest of his body. the cold metal meets his swollen and bloodied face, and while it does provide the smallest amount of relief idate knows it isn’t going to last long. 

     the orca winces as soon as he feels snatcher’s lithe body stepping upon his own, those gaudy heeled boots doing nothing but bruising and leaving their marks on his suit and skin. for a moment he wonders if the specter is going to do anything to his tail, not like he has any other appendages left to maim anyway, and keeps it tucked between his two legs as if to keep any more attention off of it.

     “t-that’s sweet of ya,” idate stammers out, blood and drool already pooling where his cheek meets the metal floor. “t-that i had t’make you... work s-so hard for this.” it was a compliment, idate could tell that much, and if he was going to beg he’d might as well try to take it in stride and adopt his usual casual attitude about it. although, having a cigarette right now would make this so much more bearable.

     shutting his eyes, he lets out a shaky, uneven breath. “just-- you can stop now. p-please. ya got me.” it wasn’t his best attempt, but snatcher’s lucky to get one at all after all of this.

     Even through a broken jaw, the orca still insists on speaking. Well, not like he’d purposely try to stop him from doing so–hearing what came from his lips actually makes Snatcher smile more than he intends to. He brought a difficult, powerful opponent to his knees, and somehow, that alone doesn’t make him bring him as much glee as hearing said opponent beg. He didn’t even have to ask him to do it! This is something he’s doing on his own! Orcas sure are curious creatures.

     Snatcher considers getting the contract out right now, but no. This alone isn’t quite enough. With about half of his teeth ripped out, he forces Idate’s mouth closed. Well, more closed than it was. It’s definitely shattered and unable to fully come together again, but he’d wager that he had this coming all along. The specter is smug, smiling in a satisfactory manner as he tilts the other’s head up to look him straight in the eyes again. 

     “I didn’t quite catch that,” he cheerfully states. Snatcher towers over the orca, leaning down with his other hand behind his back. “Could you say that for me again? C’mon, put your all into it. This is your life on the line, after all!”

     Yes, he’s trying to get the other to beg for him. The ghost is definitely in a position to be bargaining such a thing, and hey! He can safely call himself the king of negotiation. Something about the blood pouring down the other’s face, the look of desperation in his eyes, knowing he’s at his mercy… There’s just something nice about that, you know?

     In all this time, he didn’t think to ask this poor soul his name. Oh well, he’ll find out what it is soon enough! This is definitely future minion material–he never stood a chance against him, sure, but on his own? He seems perfectly capable of doing whatever he asks of him.

     he insists on speaking through the broken jaw and the searing pain because he hopes it’ll get the guy to finally back off. idate doesn’t really like the way snatcher’s smile splits wider on his face, though, and he can feel the humiliation pooling in the pit of his stomach alongside blood and discarded teeth. he hasn’t had to beg for anything in so long, and the act is unnatural and uncomfortable.

     the orca winces as snatcher shuts his mouth closed and he takes the opportunity to run his tongue over the now uneven dental work that he used to be so proud of. the throbbing ache has completely overtaken the stinging of ripped flesh sitting atop his head by now, and idate would love nothing more than to just pass out into unconscious bliss. 

     unfortunately for him, the snatcher seems eager to ride the high of seeing him beg, and his vision is rudely shifted back up make them meet eyes. he’s quite literally asking for him to make a plea now, causing idate to bite his tongue in defiance. he could have easily done it on his own! without being asked! 

     “s-sorry. should’a w-- aited for me t-to come ‘round o-on my own.” with the stubbornness of a child being ordered around, he metaphorically digs his heels into the dirt, all while his real, physical heels take snatcher’s sudden lapse of judgement to kick himself from the ground to make a run for it. the specter was kind enough to leave him his legs after all, and he was going to use them to get the hell out of there and back to the comfort of the ocean.

     Oh? Is that all the fat, overrated shark has to say for himself? He was expecting more of a verbal backlash. The screams only fuel him further, his mind racing with what to possibly do to this guy next. To be fair, he only really wanted to do the basics before having him beg for his life, but–

      … Ah. That’s a pair of sharp teeth embedded in his flesh, isn’t it? The initial surprise of the attack causes Snatcher to let out a yell, but it’s too brief to be satisfying for either party. He grits his teeth, but soon composes himself enough seem uninterested by such a thing. One could even say he seems disappointed, in fact. He stops his fin tearing momentarily, letting it hang over the other’s head by a few threads of skin. “That’s it?” he asks, tauntingly. “I thought you were supposed to be a predator.”

     With his now free hand, he pries Idate’s mouth from his bicep, forcing it open long enough to peer inside. There’s a decent number of teeth inside–perhaps getting rid of this problem will make this encounter easier for him. He’s the real fool for overlooking such a thing! Without a word, he pushes through his own pain long enough to use both hands to force his mouth open well beyond its limit. He could probably use something to keep it open, but where’s the fun in that? All that matters is keeping the orca from being able to close on his own, and this is the most effective way.

     “I can’t say I’ve ever dabbled in dentistry before,” he says, “but I’d say you have more teeth than any one person could need. Allow me to help you with that.”

     It’s even better when the other can’t reasonably talk back. Well, truth be told, he misses the banter, but he’d rather keep the other from completely destroying his more vulnerable form. Snatcher still has work to do! In this case, it’ll be snatching out his teeth. He’ll truly live up to his name like this.

     Once he’s determined that the other is unable to properly close his mouth, the specter grins, reaching in with one hand to begin his handiwork. This is a profession he’d definitely get into if it meant he’d be able to pull teeth out daily! Sadly, he can’t say he’d want to get his hands dirty that often. It’s a special occasion, and only once will he allow another’s blood to get on his clothes like this. Some teeth he tosses over his shoulder, some he lets drop down into the other’s throat. Orcas certainly have a lot of teeth, don’t they? He’s being charitable by ripping them out so fast!

     … Actually, no, now that he thinks about it, he wouldn’t want to get into this line of work. It’s far too messy and he’d only be able to tolerate it once a day, at most. No doubt the other will find a way to fight back, but he’ll determine what else will come off as soon as it hits him.

     whatever joy idate could feel from inflicting some sort of pain onto the specter was unsatisfying short-lived. hell, he couldn’t even muster the energy for another quip, a long unused flight instinct taking the reigns and denying him any sort of pleasure in the fight. at least he got snatcher to stop ripping his fin off, but the thing was useless now and would most likely take ages to fully recover, if at all.

     he’s ready to chomp down again when the specter puts spindly fingers near his teeth, but the damn guy is so much stronger and idate hates him for that. sure, he’s biting down, sharpened teeth cutting through skin as force pushes the two against each other, but idate’s already lightheaded from the loss of blood and he really isn’t sure this is a fight he wants to keep fighting. 

     ‘ haha, yeah! you got me! you can stop now, ‘ he’d like to say, but having both hands in his mouth now prying his jaw wide was making it a little difficult. one of these two immeasurable forces has got to give, though, and not before long did a resounding crack and release ring out, idate’s jaw finally dislocating and leaving his pearly whites vulnerable for the taking.

     it is at this moment that idate realizes how fucked he is.

     even as snatcher’s talking, already reaching a hand into his useless mouth, idate frantically tries to shake his head. if there was any way to cry uncle without the ability to actually say it, he’s yet to find it. all that really comes forth is a pathetic gurgle of blood as it seeps down from where his teeth are being pulled. 

     the cloying stench and taste of copper never bothered idate, but it’s never been accompanied by his own slow, torturous demise. every trick he’s used is being used against him now, and while he doesn’t really consider this as karma coming back at him for everything he’s done, it still fucking sucks. 

     “p-please, stop--” he clumsily manages to sound out as best as he can with a broken jaw, “done... ‘m done.” will it be enough to sway the specter? probably not! but idate’s been ready to cut his losses for what feels like hours now.

      “So determined to kill me?” Ha! He knew that would work. Even if he’s not outright riled up, he can tell through the other’s rush that he got to him in some manner. That alone causes Snatcher to have a wide grin on his face, watching nonchalantly as Idate lunges in his direction.

     That was the closest the ghost will get to a verbal warning. Grabbing the other by the wrists, he stops the orca in his tracks, the grin begins to appear more menacing the longer he looks at it. Even if Idate were to attempt to escape, he’d be unable to–the iron grip he has is too strong, even for an orca as powerful as he. “Perhaps you should have thought of that before letting your pride get the better of you.”

     The crunch of the other’s bones is loud and clear. With his opponent no doubt distracted by the sudden pain he’s in, Snatcher knees him in the stomach, watching him double over as he smiles at the other’s distress. “What? Is this your way of proving my so-called ‘sorry ass’ wrong?” He leans down, putting a hand under his chin to force him to look up at the other. With his wrists being incapacitated, he isn’t too concerned about the other fighting back. “Maybe you’ll get a lesson in humility.”

     Snatcher laughs at himself. It’s sinister, but filled with a sort of unnatural glee at the sort of situation he’s found himself in. Idate isn’t the only one who enjoys being in control. “Or, y’know, you might not. It makes no difference to me.”

     He’s never been in the sort of position to directly torture those who cross his path, but this guy? Oh, he deserves what’s coming next for sure! Not like he has his entire course of action planned out, he thinks, tracing a finger from the orca’s chin and up his face and toward the dorsal fin that sits at the top of his head while the other hand sits on his shoulder. This seems like a good place to begin!

     “I can’t say this is my usual fare,” he says, almost thinking out loud at this point. “For you, though? I’ll make an exception!”

     That’s when the first bit of action starts! With the same tight grip he had on Idate’s wrists, Snatcher grasps the fin and excruciatingly begins to tug at it, blood seeping from where he began. Look! It’s the blood he was craving earlier! It was hiding from him all along! Funny how things are working in his favor. The specter hums as the sound of skin tearing fills his ears, the scent of copper beginning to become more apparent as he continues his work. He changes his speed every now and then, alternating between excruciatingly slow to lightning fast. 

     He’s only about two thirds of the way there! Time flies when you’re having fun.

     idate should’ve expected this. from the second the specter was able to get a jump on him the first time to knocking his face right into the floor, idate should have known to be wary of this ghoulish stranger. unfortunately for him, he had too much pride and too little sense of self-preservation to tell him to stop fucking around. 

     suddenly being grabbed right out of the air, the orca could only blink in the time it took for the specter to clutch down and shatter bone in his hands, leaving the orca to scream and recoil in pain. the grip on his wrists were iron, though, and idate barely had time to touch down both feet on the ground before the crunch of bone was followed by a swift and powerful knee to his chest, broken ribs sure to follow. 

     “i’m just-- ugh--” doubling over, idate grits his teeth as he tries to bear the pain, not very used to being on the receiving end of his usual torture tactics. snatcher has the gall to rub it in his face at the same time, propping his chin up to look into those raving yellow eyes. yeah, that’s gonna haunt the orca for a little bit. perhaps even more so than the sinister laughter that accompanies them.

     maimed wrists are dropped to his sides in favor of the specter holding him still by the shoulder, and as he feels the other hand dancing across his features to his fin, idate’s heart and mind go into overdrive, the feral fear finally setting in. 

     agonizing inch after inch of fin is ripped from his head and the orca bellows with a newfound rage. as blood seeps down into his hair and face, he thrashes like the wild animal he is, tail slamming against anything and everything in its vicinity. even with broken wrists, idate will still manage to try and shoulder against the specter, eyes locking on the nearest body part. being held so close to snatcher has its upsides, and idate lunges out, sharp teeth clamping down and tearing into the flesh of the specter’s shoulder and bicep. 

     even if his movements only served to hasten his own finning, the orca wasn’t going to just roll over and get fucked without a proper fight.

      Hearing the sickening crunch from Idate’s body hitting metal brings the specter more joy than he could ever properly describe. There’s not a lot of blood yet, but he knows this is only the beginning of what he’s planning to do to the orca. If this is how he wants to play it? He’ll give it, and he’ll give it his all. However, momentarily thrown off-guard by the other’s paralyzed form–there was no way someone could pick themselves up after something that intense–the sudden tail movement throws Snatcher off enough to be kicked against a pile of cargo stacked up behind them. 

      Well, that should’ve been expected. Someone with a thirst for a fight like that ought to have more experience than he expected. His mistake for assuming Idate wouldn’t push through the pain! However, he cares little for the other’s pain threshold–Snatcher had every intention of going well beyond whatever his limit is.

      “Mood?” He picks himself back up, dusting himself off. The specter doesn’t seem to be too affected by the kick, smiling at the other as he walks toward him. “Is this the sort of thing you take pleasure in? Or is it only stimulating for you when you feel you’re the one in control?”

      Snatcher, so far, isn’t making any outright move to attack back. Instead, he continues speaking. “I gotta say: you’re not really doing it for me so far, if that’s the case. One measly kick? Is that all you got?”

      Oh, so he’s taunting him now? Yes. Yes, he is. Maybe riling the other up will give him a better opportunity to do what he actually desires. Of course someone like him wouldn’t easily give in to signing a contract, so it looks like he’ll have to beat Idate into submission to get what he wants. This’ll be fun! He’s never had to do something of that nature before, but there’s a first time for everything!

     Putting a hand to his cheek and tilting his head slightly, he muses, “Hm. On second thought, maybe you are as weak as you look… My mistake.”

     Snatcher doesn’t seem prepared, but he’s already planning his next course of action. Will the orca take the bait?

     it’s a surprise no one’s come down to check on the hold so far, what with the amount of noise they’re mustering up right now. but idate’s seen the seals, partook in a few even, and knows they can’t do much about what’s happening between him and the specter. though, it won’t matter in just a few more minutes, as orca is more than ready to end this fight and rip that goddamned laughter from the snatcher’s skinny throat.

     he isn’t perturbed by the other being able to shake off the kick and crash into several crates of cargo, especially with the way he’d thrown him to the floor just moments ago. hell, he’ll even mimic his actions, dusting off his black suit and wiping the blood dripping from his mouth and nose. 

     “under most circumstances, yeah,” idate replies, eyes watching the snatcher closely as he takes mirrored steps back from the other’s approach. he’s not going to embarrass himself again. “i can enjoy taking a hit or two, but it’s just so much more rewarding to hear you victims scream instead.”

     despite his own retort, the orca does feel a little... annoyed with the specter’s words. something in him sparked to life and idate found himself tensing up with each passing second. 

     ah, but then. 

     “weak? you’re not seriously talking about me, are you?” despite the growing smirk on his face, idate’s blood was boiling just beneath the surface. comments like that always hit their mark, but the ones who throw them around never seem to last long when it comes to idate. “well sir, it doesn’t matter. i don’t mind proving your sorry ass wrong, and i’ll take my sweet time doing it too.”

     without a second thought, the orca lunges at the specter from across the room, brandishing gloved claws with the intent to maim and eviscerate. unfortunately for him, he’s fallen for the bait hook, line, and sinker, just like all the little fishes he so loves to torment.

     Even while being held, Snatcher can’t help but laugh at the orca. It’s so difficult not letting it show how futile this all is! Maybe he gave this guy too much hope–his desire for being in control is hilarious, especially when the cards have been stacked against him this entire time! Not like he’d know that. From what Snatcher’s gathered so far, he’s probably been unopposed for the longest time.

    There’s always time for a change. There’s always time for the orca to realize the specter is no longer in his grasp (rather suddenly, actually). Having a flair for the dramatic, Snatcher decided to wait until the last possible second to teleport behind him. The laughter from behind Idate is loud, almost too loud, really.

     Except… That person behind him wasn’t there before. Adorned in what appears to be clothes fit for someone of nobility, his slicked back hair and 6′7″ thin frame almost makes him seem unreal. An ethereal aura is around him, in fact, but pinpointing what that could be is impossible. It’s somewhat likely that he came into the cargo hold while all of this was going on, but something about that look in his eyes… Something about his smile…

     The newcomer is already walking toward Idate, hands behind his back. “You thought it’d be that easy? Wonder what sort of prey you’ve been after.”

     Ah. It is the ghost from the crate, but he’s… A lot different. A lot. Snatcher wasn’t human the last time the orca checked, but what can he say? He’s full of surprises. Putting a hand on Idate’s shoulder, he continues. “Perhaps you’ll get something out of playing the part of prey in this encounter.”

     Snatcher grins, giving the other a chance to give some comeback before slamming him face-first into the ground. He’s a lot stronger than he looks!

     being an apex predator means that idate has never had to feel like he’s got to look out for his own life. he’s tormented lesser beings unopposed, and held his own against a good amount of others supposedly stronger than him. could you really blame the guy for being a little ( a lot ) over his head right now? 

     “eh...?” he blinks when his teeth clamp down on air between his suddenly emptied hands, clenching and unclenching them as he looks up and around the room in front of him, no specter in sight. idate almost sighs with disappointment at the loss of a fun little snack before the thought is derailed, the smallest of shudders running down his spine as a different sort of laugh sounds out from behind him.

     things just got a lot more interesting.

     not turning around too quickly, the orca narrows his eyes just a bit towards the source of the laughter, his tail now moving with a mixture of excitement and agitation even if his own expression doesn’t show it. in fact, what is showing is the same lazy grin that idate always has plastered on his features, showing that he still isn’t intimidated by the sudden change of appearance. 

     “i don’t mind working for my meal, if that’s what you’re implying,” he retorts, not moving an inch even as the other reaches a hand onto his shoulder. he’ll let the guy feel in control for a bit if that’s what he really wanted, and it wasn’t like he could actually do any damage to him anywa-

     the sudden grab and the following smash into the metal hull of the ship happens lightning quick, and before idate knew it his head and entire body were wrought with more pain than he’d like to admit. the orca was paralyzed now, though he couldn’t tell if it was from fear or surprise. the guy didn’t look like he had any muscle on him, but holy hell he could really pack a punch.

     idate didn’t have to see snatcher to know that he was still towering behind him, and with one quick movement his tail swept the specter off-balance. the orca followed up with the best kick he could muster up from his position, not particularly caring where it landed as long as it sent the other flying back against the rest of the cargo.

     “i’d ask for a little bit of warning before you do that, but where’s the fun in it?” he says, pulling himself off from the impacted metal floor. cracking his neck, he looks back towards wherever he kicked the snatcher, frowning. “i’m not really a fan of tricks like that, you know. it really kills the mood for me.”

     He’s… Really not intimidated by that? Not even a little? Many are usually terrified by his presence at this point! The fact that he’s acting like his appearance is nothing is, truth be told, slightly disconcerting. Well, considering he looks like that, he’s not surprised that he isn’t bothered. If Snatcher had to look at that ugly mug every morning, he probably couldn’t live with himself!

     ( Kind of too late for that as it is, though. )

     “Mess with it?” Can’t say he’s too keen on being manhandled like this. He frowns. “You reeeaaally have nothing better to do with your time, do you?”

     Even then, the other’s question causes the other to (deliberately) be silent for a time, as if he’s contemplating it. Snatcher knows the answer, of course, but making the other seem as if he’d never been in a fight before will be to his advantage. The frown quickly turns into one of his signature grins, looking down on the orca with a sort of glee.

     “Hm. Don’t know! Do you want to find out? By all means, be my guest!”

     “oh, i’ve got nothing but time. this is just the best way to spend it.”

     with his tail swishing lightly, idate’s claws dig further into the specter’s body in hopes of getting a rise out of him. from the way he doesn’t react, he’s either tougher than he looks or really can’t feel much outside force. the latter isn’t something he’s familiar with, but he does love finding new ways to torture the unknown.

     “sure, no problem,” he replies, his other hand moving towards the base of the ghost’s form. “but don’t say i didn’t warn you.”

     with just a bit of jostling, the orca is surprised to find that he can sever a shadow from the ground. both of his hands have got a vice grip on the ghost, and only a moment passes before idate licks his chops and moves to take a gaping bite out of his new meal. 

     hopefully the taste of bitter, sarcastic specter actually tastes good or idate’s in for one hell of a flavor bomb ( and not the good kind. )

      You’d think someone like him would find the perfect opportunity to bust out of the box, but you’d be mistaken. While he attempted to trap the seals that loaded him onto the ship, it seems that trying to force someone into a contract from inside a box was, in a sense, not very practical. Oh well, at least he’s on vacation! … Now, if he could just get himself out of this predicament, then he’d be in business!

      … Well, that certainly helps! Like hell is he going to thank this so-called kind stranger, though. Oh no, he needs to know what he just unleashed onto the world! Arising from the newly formed hole in his crate, he towers over Idate, laughing directly in his face.

      “AHAHAHAHA! FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!” That never gets old. “I have no idea why you were so eager to let me out, but hey! Good for me, bad for you! I don’t think you realize what this means, do you? That’s too bad.”

     that was unexpected. of all the things idate thought a shipping crate to contain, a real life ghost in the ectoplasmic flesh was not one of them.

     if the noodle was trying to intimidate idate, it sure as hell wasn’t working. towering over him or not, the orca just looks up with a casual look of interest in his eye, smoke wafting up from the end of his cigarette.

     “truth be told, i had no idea what was in that crate. it just looked weird and i wanted to mess with it.” he shrugs as he admits to his intentions before reaching out towards the specter. if it couldn’t have gotten out on its own, then idate has got to wonder...

     “i think you’ve got our situations a little mixed up here, though. you may’ve been safer inside that thing than out here with me.” making contact with the other’s ghostly body, idate’s a bit surprised to find it a bit resistant to his touch rather than being completely incorporeal. "do ghosts still feel pain after they die or no?”

    “oh, that’s interesting.”      

     the crate was, to put it simply, eerie. compared to the rest of the cargo in the bay, it stuck out like a sore thumb. glowing eyes tattooed upon its sides and laying upon a bed of uprooted grass and straw, the whole box just gave off an intimidating air.

     it only made idate all the more invested in figuring out what its contents were.

     taking a puff of the cigarette on his lips, he arches back before kicking the side of the box, splintering the wood in one fell swoop. pulling his foot away, he bends over to try and get a peek of whatever lays within the inky darkness.

     “kind of a weird thing to stow on a cruise,” he muses aloud, “i wonder what you’re hiding...”
