SO GLAD YOU ASKED because I must beg forgiveness: acceptances and rejections will be delayed on account of a) editor injury and b) editor having a large urgent project dropped on their desk that is sapping their sanity in ways the creatures of cosmic horror could only dream of.

Acceptances and rejections both will now be sent on the 17th with my sincere apologies for the delay. On the plus side this is a reminder that the person sending them out is a fallible creature of flesh and not quite enough bone & not like, the final divine authority on literary merit or anything.

Hiya, two questions here as I couldn't find them answered (sorry if I missed them): 1. is it okay as long as we get the submission in before end-of-day tomorrow (that is, it doesn't close at like 10am on June 1st?)

2. can one submit more than one story for consideration? (in this case, two potential stories)

if the form is still open, submissions are still open! I have it set to close automatically but the timezone it is set for is a mystery to me.

as per the submissions form, one (1) story per author. Send your fave. If one of them falls under one of the following themes as well, maybe hang onto it for later (no promises but this is what the forward planning looks like, in no particular order!)

Short answer: I sincerely hope so!

Long answer: I have about half a dozen similar projects—queer, erotic SFF anthologies along various themes—in mind, and I'd really like to produce all of them and more. My realistic goal would be to produce 1-2 anthologies a year on an ongoing basis for as long as anyone cares to write for them/read them. My fantasy goal is pro rates for everyone and potentially guest editors. This all hinges, of course, on whether or not a sufficient number of people actually want it, and that I cannot currently know. We'll all find out together!

I'm the person who said that last ask and I should clarify: I have not participated in actual real life cannibalism, I just get really intense cuteness aggression for my partner and briefly considered writing about it for this

I did not assume you had actually eaten anyone but I will be real: I assumed you were talking about the Franklin expedition because I know a lot of people who have a lot of feelings about that & cannibalism.

"Wanting to eat your partner" though is definitely within the scope of feelings sought for Teeth!

This is explicitly a speculative fiction anthology so there would have to be some speculative element, whether fantasy or science fiction or something otherwise outside the realm of known reality. It is up to your judgement whether you think it fits the call well enough to submit.

Would we have to have our IRL names attached to the publication, or would a pseudonym do?

This is what the submissions form asks for, so you can absolutely use a pseudonym and have me call you whatever you want to boot:

However, PayPal will likely reveal whatever name you have your account under to me when I pay you. This will simply be knowledge I have, not attached to anything public-facing. It is going to have to be up to you whether you're comfortable with that.

I am just now realising pseudonym is a required field and it is not meant to be. Oops. Have fixed this 😅

So I started writing an erotic horror cannibalism thing and it kind of spiralled out of control, so I guess what I'm asking is how much needs to be teeth/erotic

I’m SO excited about this! I do have a question though: If I get into some issues of consent / infantilization of a nonhuman character, would that be outside of acceptable parameters? I know there’s a rule about all characters being of adult human intelligence, and the monster I’m writing absolutely Is that, but he’s not treated as such or necessarily assumed to be that intelligent by the POV character.

So my intent with that point is essentially that I'm not looking for someone fucking An Actual Dog*. As long as it's possible for the reader to tell there's an intelligence behind the the monster/that it is capable of making meaningful decisions for itself (this need not be instantly obvious as long as it's in there at some point), that's within the bounds of the intent!

Just to confirm, during the submission period we would be submitting the completed short story? Would it be expected to be publication-ready at that point (editing wise)?

Yes, submit a complete short story manuscript.

In terms of what editing stage it should be at, send in your final draft. There's no expectation that it will have been third-party edited (that's what I'm here for!), but developmentally it should be the story you want to see in print.
