My final project of this wonderful drawing journey is what made me an Orvietan. So much contributed to my fantastic month here but these things were the main reasons why I felt more connected to Italy. The art I saw around Italy, especially the famous works i’ve dreamt of seeing inspired me the most because the whole reason I came to Italy through this program was to see the art history all over. Eating dinner with my home stay family and looking out the kitchen window to the beautiful dusk contrasted to the yellow lights of Orvieto. Hanging out with my friends at Blue Bar singing songs with the bartenders and creating memories, and last but not least, the delicious wine I had with almost all of my meals 😉

(6/8-9/18) Florence was a great place full of cathedrals and museums that had great content to work from!! I was really interested in the skulls that were on different tombs that were in the churches were they used to bury different important priests and monks. I went to the Galileo museum that was full of different brass and metal tools, globes, compasses and mechanisms that were all so interesting to look at and and learn about. I worked on crosshatching for the skull and quick drawings for the different museum things while I was walking through it

These are my final pieces based off my study inspired by the colors here in Orvieto. Using watercolor and pen i’m emphasizing the beautiful muteness of the colors that make up the environment around me. The peach and coffee are surrounded by black pen, making the color the focus. Compared to the landscape and the place mat i focused on only using one color changing the tints and shades to create the whole picture and adding pen to emphasize edges and separating some of the colors that were too close in hue.

I’m studying the colors around me here in Orvieto and I focused on only using one color each day out of 5 and using different shades and tints of the colors to make it more monochromatic. I chose the colors I see the most here so I could fill each spread with the culture of Orvieto.

My final photos for the people and places of Orvieto. I focused on the texture of line on top of the blank watercolors for details and a more gestural composition keeping things simple and colorful.

(5/30/18) Such a cute little city Siena was. I very much enjoyed the small details like the stars and moons throughout the striped Duomo, and the narrow steep streets around the town. My goal was to take less time drawing more complicated areas so it would be easier to get more drawings done while carrying around my small sketchbook and pen.
