âNoâŠ, I thought it was you,â Minnie answered slowly and just now realized the danger of the situation. She quickly couch down and held her index finger to her lips â her danger reflexes were still sharp from the journey through the inferi invested lands.Â
âShhh, letâs see if we hear it again,â she whispered and held her wand tighter. âIf weâre lucky itâs just an owlâŠâ
âIt was definitely not me,â Ozzy confirmed, instinctively following her lead and slowly dropping down into a crouch as well. He glanced down at the wand she held tightly in her hand. At least she had a weapon, of sorts. First time he was ever glad to see a wand.Â
He nodded tensely as she suggested it might only be a bird. After a moment or two, he still hadnât heard anything. âDo you reckon itâs safe?â he murmured, looking over at the slightly older witch for guidance.Â
Her eyes twinkled. âNah, it wonât give you extra limbs. Itâs Bertie Bottâs Every Flavor Alcohol â thatâs the whole bloody point of the game, see? You never know what fucking flavor youâre about to get, longest person to hold out wins. We call it witchâs brew. Now, you in or you out?â
Every Flavor Alcohol? âThat sounds like an absolutely terrible idea,â he told her frankly. But fun was scarce around here, and this could be fun, he supposed. At least he could say he tried. âIâm in,â he decided, with a small smile. âBut youâve got to go first.âÂ
Nadia hummed in response; she did understand wanting some peace and quiet; the castle was rowdier than itâd ever been while she was a student, but still. âWell, the next time you need a moment to yourself and the grounds is the only place that will do, at least bring something to protect yourself with.â He didnât have a wand, but sheâd seen that some muggles were more than capable of defending themselves. âStarthistle. Itâs a natural fever reducerâIâm hoping the right amount in conjunction with other ingredients will slow the fever enough to where it doesnât kill itâs victims. Thus keeping them from becoming inferiââzombies, as youâd say.â
âOh,â Ozzy said slowly, realizing that he, did not in fact, have a weapon on him. âLike... what?â He knew guns worked on the zombies--had seen one shot right through the brain, blood and bits of bone spattering everywhere--Ozzy shook his head to rid it of that mental image--but he had no idea where to get a gun, and with his luck, heâd accidentally manage to shoot himself. Heâd scavenged for a long pipe heâd been using as defense while he was journeying to Hogwarts, but... he had no idea where itâd ended up. What did all the other normal people here use to defend themselves? he wondered. Maybe he should start paying attention.
He listened to her explanation about the plant--the starthistle. It sounded like a pretty solid argument for it to potentially work. He opened his mouth to tell her that was smart, but then closed it when he realized that a) that was obvious and b) she probably did not actually care what he thought. âDo you have all the other ingredients?â he finally asked, before also adding, slightly more quietly, âWell, they are zombies.âÂ
Juliana weaved her way between the tents, medic bag slung over her shoulder. Spells had been backfiring all day, cauldrons full of toxic potions melting, and she was only barely keeping up. Her hands were dirty with strangersâ blood, hair falling in her face, and she was sure her face was smudged with soot. Juliana was running on fumes, and she looked it. She hardly noticed when she stepped on a fallen branch, causing it to SNAP. âYeah, sorry, that was me.â She looked at the stranger carefully, trying to place him. âYou donât have to look so scared. Weâre safe here. The wards are up. Nothingâs coming this close to the castle.â
When Ozzy turned, he saw a dirt-and-blood-covered woman with a medic bag, a branch broken beneath one of her feet. Well, that was a relief, at least. At her matter-of-fact words, he couldnât help choking out a quiet, coughing laugh. âIâve been scared for months and it doesnât look like thatâs going to end any time soon,â he said softly. âI donât mean to be skeptical, but, like, wards are not the same as walls.â For one, you couldnât see a ward, which meant that it was very difficult to believe that it was actually there. âYou canât be sure, right?â

Quickly, Riley threw her hands up as if she had done something wrong and Ozzy was a cop she was trying to appease, âI sure fucking hope so. God. Didnât mean to scare you there. I was going to use my wand for light but I thought I could get away with it before it got too damn dark. I see I messed that up and lowkey probably scared the shit outta you.â Riley quickly went to catch up, walking up to Ozzy as she crossed her arms. âGOD, I could go for a smoke right now. Hey, Ozzy.â
Ozzy released the tension that had been building up his spine when he saw that it was only Riley. âOh, hey.â A small smile crossed his face now that he was certain he wasnât about to be ripped to pieces. âI didnât, in fact, shit myself, but it did come close,â he replied mildly. âBut yeah, the sunset came on fast... what are you up to so late?âÂ
Nadia resisted the urge to roll her eyes; granted, the grass was a bit wild in this area, and her bag hidden from view. âLuckily, I do. My bagâs right over there,â she gestured with a sharp jerk of her head. While waiting for him to grab the vials she needed to store the starthistle til she could get it back to the lab, she couldnât help but say, âYou know, you really shouldnât be wandering the grounds alone.â This boy was a muggle, one who worked in her division, if she recalled correctly, and for him to be wandering alone and seemingly without any sort of protection was the definition of foolish. âYou can walk back with me when Iâm done.â
âIâll just get them then,â he agreed, scrambling towards the patch of tall grass where sheâd sharply nodded her head. There, he found her bag and, with some fumbling, managed to grab a couple vials. Holding one in each fist, he headed her direction, offering them out to her. âIt was loud inside,â Ozzy said by way of explanation. The woman was right though - safety in numbers, and all that. âIâll walk back with you, okay. Uh... what are you collecting?âÂ
Dusk was quickly approaching, and Ozzy quickly made his way through the maze of tents pitched on the grounds and towards the castle walls. He didnât know why the darkness unsettled him so much - they were zombies, not vampires, after all. He could only imagine if vampires were real, too. His face grimaced in distaste at the thought for a moment before he heard a rustling behind him. He paused mid-step. âWas it... you who made that noise?â Ozzy slowly turned to ask the nearest clearly human person, his tone bleakly hopeful.Â
The wind whipped against her cheeks as Nadia strode across the groundsâ-a far cry from the well-kept lands of her own time at Hogwarts, she still wasnât quite used to the sort of wildness that had spread over the grounds around the castle, but it did have its perks. Mainly, the small thicket of starthistle she knew to be just on the other side of what used to be the quidditch pitch. And while normally sheâd wait, have someone bring her the plant she needed⊠even she needed a bit of fresh air sometimes, and this way her research wouldnât have to wait. She stopped as she her destination, stopping down so deft fingers could pluck the plant in question from the grass. Though she was focused on her task, her mind remained alert, and she glanced over her shoulder, sensing a presence behind her.
âIf youâre going to lurk, at least make yourself useful and hand me a vial.â
The castle had just gotten so loud. There was nowhere Ozzy had gone that morning that wasnât overrun with children running around, or families herding down the halls, or wizards rushing off to work on something. Despite the safety of the castle walls, he had to get outside, just for a little while. Outside, on the wilderness of the grounds, in the blissful, blissful silence, Ozzy wandered, absentmindedly following a figure in the distance. It was as good of a path as any, but soon, he realized that the figure had stopped - but didnât realize it until heâd almost caught up to her. His eyes widened slightly and he turned to slip away when the figure spoke up in a familiar voice. âI donât... have any vials,â Ozzy replied uncertainly, before checking his jacket pockets just to make sure some hadnât magically appeared. Weird stuff, magic. But no, his pockets were still empty. âSorry, um, Ms. Zabini.âÂ
The journey had be long and treacherous but it seemed that this safe castle ( she couldnât really call it a house, now could she? ) held a lot more than she had hoped for. Sure there was plenty of food, a warm bed, hot water but there was just something that made her feel uneasy about it all. Nevertheless her determination won out and though she stood there freezing with clothes and injuries that mirrored how hard the past year of survival was, Celeste approached the nearest person. âHave you seen a guyâŠaround my age aboutâ this tall and looks like the grumpy cat?â
In the last day or so, a whole pack of new people had arrived - some who knew each other and some who just managed to stumble in at the same time - so welcome duty was a little short handed. Apparently. Ozzy discovered this when an older woman had grabbed him by the elbow, swung him around, unceremoniously thrown a stack of secondhand jumpers into his arms, and instructed him to hand them out. So there he stood, arms full of wool, probably the least knowledgable person in the history of welcome duty. How was he supposed to know who needed a sweater? He glanced around helplessly as an unfamiliar young woman approached him. âGrumpy cat... yeah, no, doesnât ring a bell. Iâd remember a face like that. But I havenât been paying much attention, sorry,â he shrugged. âI can keep an eye out, though?âÂ
OSCAR PETTIGREW really is the spitting image of MARLON LANGELAND, right? For someone only EIGHTEEN years old, OZZY has been forced to endure so much. Yeah, that MUGGLE has been scraping by at the sanctuary for FOUR MONTHS now, working as a RESEARCHER in the DIVISION OF RESEARCH. HE identifies as CISMALE and is known to be SHY and INDECISIVE but also ADAPTABLE and HARDWORKING. Best of luck surviving through this.
whoa everybody, hey, whatâs up!! iâm tara. hereâs my info about ozzy. itâs what I wrote for the app before this rp became appless so itâs just a list of facts, but hey, that gets the job done, I guess?Â
also, I gave up on doing aesthetically pleasing small text during rp-ing, so sorry for my offense against the eyes.Â
[ Pettigrew is obviously a familiar surname. I decided Peter Pettigrew had a younger brother who was a squib, which is why no oneâs really heard of him. Thatâs Ozzyâs grandfather. Ozzyâs grandmother who married into the Pettigrew family, along with his Pettigrew father, plus his motherâs side, are all muggles - so heâs a muggle in pretty much every sense of the word. ]
Ozzy grew up in Norwich, the middle child between an older sister and a younger sister. His parents managed a bakery, and Ozzy was always at home in the shop, watching his much more outgoing sisters cause mischief and shenanigans. The Pettigrews didnât have much money, but they were happy, as far as he could tell. A place to live, food on the table - he couldnât ask for much more.
Heâd never had huge ambitions for himself. He was decent at schoolwork but easily distracted, so his marks were never as high as they could have been, despite his sistersâ encouragement. Grades didnât matter much to him - he hadnât decided what he wanted to do, anyway. He liked music, but wasnât talented enough to make a living from it; he loved the bakery but couldnât bake to save his life. That was the trend. Ozzy was (and is), in every sense of the word, mediocre. Heâs fully aware of this, and it doesnât bother him in the slightest. Heâd planned on moving to London with his best friend instead of going to university, but he had one year of secondary school left when the zombie outbreak occurred.
When it first started happened, Ozzy didnât believe it - not until he saw a zombie in town with his own eyes. Apparently, the bloke had gotten infected but still hopped on a bus to Norwich, arriving before he - or it - properly attacked. This was one of the first reports of zombie activity outside of bigger cities, and it tore Norwich apart. Ozzyâs parents pulled their children out of school and kept them quarantined in the bakery from January until March. If this was happening here, surely it was happening in London as well, theyâd thought (correctly). When magic was revealed to the muggle world, only Ozzyâs father hadnât been surprised. Itâd run in parts of his family, he said - which didnât make Ozzy any more inclined to believe him. But Ozzy was logical at heart, and with the world collapsing all around them, he was forced to accept that magic was a part of life now.
[TW: death & parental death.] They survived as well as they could. Ozzyâs father refused to let his children go on any supply runs, and one night, he didnât come back. When his mother went out on a rescue mission, she didnât come back, either. Ozzyâs older sister wanted to go out and find both of them, but stayed for her younger siblingsâ sakes. Later, on a supply dash, Ozzy spotted his mother with the zombie horde, as one of them. Their father was still nowhere in sight. [end TW.]
One of the other surviving families in their neighborhood passed the Pettigrew children the news that a place called Hogwarts was safe, previously some sort of magic school. It was all the way in Scotland (of course it was, Ozzyâd thought), and with rations dwindling and danger rising every day, the three voted unanimously to try to get there, despite the distance. Ozzyâs younger sister was able to hotwire an abandoned vehicle that still had some measure of gasoline in it, and that took them halfway up the country. When the car ran out of fuel, they had to take it on foot. [TW: death.] After a few days, they were attacked by a wandering group of zombies, and Ozzy and his older sister were able to escape, but their younger sister was torn to pieces, despite Ozzy trying to drag her away. Losing his parents was one thing, but it was different to physically watch it happen to his little sister. [end TW.]
Shortly afterwards, he and his older sister were set-on by a group of desperate humans, their clothes torn from them and their supplies stolen at knife-point, despite his sister attempting to persuade them out of it. Recognizing his older sisterâs survival skills and sharp mind, the wild group took her with them, leaving Ozzy on his own. He hasnât seen her since, though he strongly believes sheâs still alive and out there somewhere.
[TW: death] Heading towards Hogwarts on his own was significantly less successful, having no idea where he was and being⊠well, not super skilled. Ozzy had to scavenge for supplies and clothing, and as much as he didnât want to use them, weapons. He still panicked at the sight of zombies but eventually, he got more comfortable with attacking them - they were already dead, was his rationale, so it wasnât like he was killing real people. Soon he stumbled across a human in the company of a zombie and killed it on sight. The zombie turned out to be the humanâs sister, which he sympathized with, and he worried that Eli (that was the humanâs name) would want revenge on him for killing her sister (even though, hello, she was a zombie), but that didnât seem to be the case, at least as far as he could tell. [end TW.] Since they were both on their own, they teamed up to navigate to Hogwarts. Eli was much tougher and much more⊠focused than Ozzy ever was, so he wasnât sure they would work as a team, but despite their differences, they finally made it to Hogwarts with a bit of luck.
Ozzy canât believe itâs been almost a year since the whole zombie situation began. At Hogwarts, heâs relieved to finally have a place to live where he doesnât have to wake up to constant and unceasing fear. Intermittent fear, he can handle, so he thinks this situation is fine for now. Even though he canât do any magic, heâs found a place among the researchers doing book research and helping to organize paperwork and cross-reference notes. Personally, he thinks that real sciences (chemistry, biology, you know, REAL science) will probably play into whatever the cure is rather than just magic, so heâs using his muggle chemistry background to help the potioneers when he can, too.
Heâs still skeptical of magic and isnât sure whether to trust it; likewise, he isnât quite sure where to find himself in this place where non-magical people are clearly the minority. It makes him feel defenseless, so he plans on keeping his head down for the time being. And he hopes that his older sister will show up one day, because heâs the only family he has left, and heâs never done very well on his own.
and thatâs him! message me if you want to plot :)) thanks!
