Born and raised in Fallbrook, North Carolina. He is the eldest of two other siblings and therefore has always had the most pressure on him. His parent’s moved to Fallbrook shortly before giving birth to Oscar and have been there ever since. 

He didn’t get to play sports growing up, because his parent’s did not want to risk any injury to his growing brain. They pushed him to play instruments and perform more intellectual hobbies. Oscar was very heavily involved in school, loving to learn, despite the great push at home. He did spend a lot of time at school with working parents. His parents had tutors for him starting from a young age as well. 

After graduation, Oscar took off to Harvard, which was his father’s first choice for him in law school. Naturally, his parents still made him check in with them and eventually, the pressures caught up to him in the form of depression. Oscar went on a drinking bender and ended up almost failing out of his classes. This led to his mother coming to live with him until he got his life back on track. 

Once law school was completed, Oscar hadn’t expected to return to Fallbrook. He wanted to make a move to the city, New York or Los Angeles but instead he was approached by the De La Fuente family to be the family lawyer due to his marks in school. He accepted, knowing the position would be more honorable than anything else he could find. 

By the time he was thirty, he did open up his own law firm, bringing in Micah Leiberman to be his partner in the recent times. Owning his own law firm has brought him great joy but it also comes with a lot of traveling for business. 

In the midst of coming back to Fallbrook and opening his own law firm, Oscar married Maddox McClain. In the beginning, Oscar sought out Maddox as a way to get back at Seth Reynolds, a man that he has never got along with, not since they were kids. What Oscar didn’t expect was to actually fall in love with Maddox. 

The love didn’t last long, their marriage turning to shambles after a while when he realized that she was still in love with Seth. Instead of dealing with the problems in a normal and healthy way, Oscar began to have affairs on his business trips out of town, leading to him getting a vasectomy to not have illegitimate children running around with his genes. 

Oscar is a very messy man and realizes he isn’t doing the best by himself and until he gets a divorce from Maddox, he isn’t interested in moving on with his life. However, despite how messy he is, he is not entirely a bad person and does have good to him from time to time.

As a lawyer, he is heavily involved in some people’s lives, helping with many divorces in Fallbrook, though it is not an area he specializes in, he does want people to have the best outcome, knowing Maddox should rake him over the coals when their divorce finally comes.

Celine had been in the car, about to get out and go into the store. As the car rocked forward, she heard the crunching sound of her back end crumbling in, she felt a jolt as she was thrown forward. Thankfully, she still had her seatbelt on so she hadn’t sustained any injuries. But her car sure did. For a moment she was dazed, and sat in the car before throwing open the door and getting out. Her gaze moved to the destroyed back end to the man getting out of his car. “What the fuck!” She shrieked, her eyes stretching wide with shock, anger, horror and fear. Her car was destroyed! There was no way she’d be able to afford to get it fixed! “What the fuck?” She repeated, still shouting, still angry and shaking from the shock. Dark eyes turned to the man. “You hit me!” She cried out incredulously, shaking a little more than she thought from the jolt in the car and feeling a little numb.

Oscar got out of his car just about the same time as the woman in the car did. Her curse words slapped him in the face a few times, bringing him back to the reality before him. “I did,” he couldn’t deny that fact, especially when the woman was so angry and rightfully so. He honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she was dialing the cops already but he hoped he could calm her down before that happened. “I will pay for the damages,” out of his own pocket, that wouldn’t be a problem for him, “please, let me call the shop.” He told her, grabbing his phone from his pocket, “I can have them pick it up.” Oscar offered to the woman, “Then I can take you anywhere you need,” it was the least that he could do for ramming into the back of her car in a parking lot. His own temper had got the best of him, frustrations bringing him from focus on the task at hand - which had been backing out of a parking spot.

Cal nodded curtly before running his tongue along his bottom lip. He still wasn’t convinced this was a good idea. The young man lifted his eyes to meet Mr. Collins’, to face down what he was about to do. He managed to find a sense of comfort in them, which ended up giving him the courage to continue, that and Laney’s picture in his hands. He placed it on the table, and slid it towards Mr. Collins. “Uh–I’m raisin’ a kid that isn’t–biologically or–legally mine. Been raisin’ her for years now and um, always lookin’ over my shoulder and shit. Parents–left her with me–come by every once in a while but then they–they chase down their next high. She calls me dad. I’ve raised her since she was a baby Mr. Collins. And uh–I’d like to have custody of her. I don’t have any money so–not like ‘m ‘expectin’ anythin’ from ya but–if you could just let me know if I got any options, I’d appreciate it.”

Oscar was surprised at the words that came from the young man’s mouth. His jaw clenched at the thought of neglectful parents. In turn, his were overbearing and constantly butting into his life even as an adult, but it was better than the alternative he was describing to him. Parents chasing the next high shouldn’t be called parents at all. He didn’t have kids, didn’t want kids, but he knew how a parent should be with their kid. “Okay,” he nodded his head, “I am going to help you.” Oscar wasn’t expecting any money, not from Cal. “We’ve got a few things to do, getting permission from them and if we can’t do that due to their,” he paused a moment, “we can prove them unfit and you can go through the process of legally adopting her. I can’t promise, not right now, that she won’t have to temporarily be placed in a foster system but I will do everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

“You really can’t!” Maya agreed with a nod. She remembered during high school when she had to help out at the bakery and the coworkers she had then. Neither them or her at the time were people to be depended on for nothing. Maya was glad now that her current staff were beyond reliable. The pair worked quick as Oscar spoke and soon enough she was ready to close up. “That’s always annoying.” she sighed, glad that he was there to help. “Okay good to know!” she laughed and gestured them to head out, turning off the lights and locking up behind her. “All you need at Starbeam is a couple shots and your most favourite hype song and you’ll fall in love, trust me.” she grinned, “Even the classical stylings of others will start to sound good!”

Walking out of the shop, he paused outside the door as Maya finished closing up for the evening. “Is that all I need?” He laughed, raising his brow with her words. “It sounds awfully suspicious to me that’s all I need,” he teased her in response, “but for you, if that’s where you want to go, I can entertain the idea and see if you are right about only needing a few shots and a favorite hype song,” it sounded ridiculous to the lawyer but Maya had become a close friend in the years, willing to at least give it a shot. Plus, the man was much more receptive to ideas when he was in a good place in his marriage. “You end up going to the Cherry Blossom Festival at all? I didn’t see ya.”

Jeremy nodded as he sat down and looked around. “Good. Might just use what I have and be done with the night.” The man said as he took a drink while his eyes shifted to try to see if Aniyah was around, but didn’t see her. “Don’t seem like it, but the night is young.” He smiled over at the man. “Seeing anyone you like?” He sat down his drink. “Is now a bad time to ask how things are with Maddox?”

“The night is young,” and despite being at the strip club with Jeremy, his question about Maddox didn’t seem like bad timing. “Honestly,” he found himself smiling at the thought of the woman. “I know currently I am here with you but it’s for the discounted drinks,” at least, this time around. “but things have been good with Maddox since I got back to town. Honestly, we can’t keep our hands off each other. If she wasn’t also working late tonight, I’d probably already be home with her.”

Her eyebrows lifted when he admitted the no strings aspect of their encounter. But the man, in reality, was a whole mess of strings attached tied into mangled knots. Rori would’ve question how she got herself tangled up in that knot herself that night, but then she remembered who she was. It was just in her nature. The forbidden fruit he represented tugged at her whole being and with each sip of her drink the tug on her conscience managed to become less and less. She nodded about the drink she’d offered him before laughing, somewhat emptily at his question. “You know it is a real wonder how you ever manage to pick up women with those lines.” She joked, knowing that picking her up was the opposite of what he was trying to do right now but she felt the need to lighten the mood around them. “Listen, I’m not trying to make your night awkward. Feel free to enjoy your drink and just, wallow in whatever you got to. Or if you want to actually talk, I can lend you an ear, but I don’t really do small talk–when I’m out at the bar anyway.”

Oscar let loose a louder laugh with the woman’s dig at him. He hadn’t laughed like that in a while but her snark had caught him off guard, in a good way. “Alright,” he shook his head, “to be fair, I’m not really sure either.” If he was being honest, he figured it was mostly booze and the way that it brought bad intentions out in him and others. “No, I don’t want to wallow,” he had done enough of that. “if not small talk, what do you talk about at the bar? Or am I interrupting you looking to go home with someone?” Oscar raised his brow, knowing that it wouldn’t be him that she was going home with. But for once, for once in a long while, things were going great with Maddox.

Maddox felt like for the first time in years the both of them were going to be okay. She stopped trying to keep track of her ovulations and enjoyed the moments with him. She smiled as she turned around to face him, raising her arms up to drape around his neck. “I feel so special,” it was true, the fact he had put work aside to come spend some times with her during the Cherry Blossom festival. “I don’t know if you saw but I’m on the list of volunteers to get dunked,” she mused, wiggling her eyebrows with a sly smirk on her features. “I can’t promise that they won’t make wear a white t-shirt.” She teased as she slipped her fingers through the strands of his hair on the back of his head. “You should also know that Seth was put on the volunteer list for the bakery stand.” She had to be open about these sort of things, the reason they had become so distant with one another is because they stopped communicating. “So, it might be a pretty busy day for me unless you want help out too?”

“You are special,” Oscar commented in return and it was the truth. It had never not been the truth, though Oscar had not been the best at showing it. “Oh, you are?” He raised his brows in response to hearing that she was on the dunk list. “I guess I’ll have to come take a chance and see how good my throwing arm is,” Oscar teased her, unable to help the images that flashed through his mind of his wife in a soaking wet, white t-shirt. The images that he was thinking of quickly left when the woman let loose a name he didn’t care to hear. “Oh,” he knew she was being open and honest with him, which is what their relationship needed. Oscar didn’t want to really help out but with the idea of Seth being there with his wife, he found himself nodding his head. A slow smile touched his lips, “I’d love to help out. I didn’t sign up for anything this year,” he figured, just in case he had to work or needed to get out of town if things weren’t going well, “so I am all yours, for as long as you need.”

What an idiot–asking him for help at the fucking Cherry Blossom Festival. He was obviously trying to have fun like everyone else and Cal was about drop his sob story on him. His thoughts plagued him as he waited to see what Mr. Collins response would be, shocked to hear that he was willing to listen. Something about his answer made Cal feel slightly more at ease. He took the seat he’d been offered across from the man, thinking of Laney to give him the strength to continue. To keep himself on track in fact, he pulled out his wallet that had a picture of her in it for moments like these. “Right so–if I tell you stuff you can’t like, tell anyone else right? That’s like, against the law or something?” From what little research he’d done he thought that was true, also his mom loved Law and Order so he’d seen a lot on there too.

As Cal started right off the bat with asking if he could keep things confidential, Oscar knew that it was serious. While he knew that it typically required a payment, the lawyer wasn’t going to ask. It was clear that the young boy needed help with something and though most people wouldn’t find him to be a stand-up guy if they knew about how he treated his marriage at times, but he wasn’t going to turn down helping Cal. “Absolutely,” Oscar nodded his he head to the man, “anything you say stays with me.”

“Guess it’s just what people say when they run into each other.” He said quietly, somewhat to himself. Cal shrugged his jacket up on his shoulders. He felt always felt out of place talking to people like Mr. Collins. To his surprise, the guy was actually acknowledging him. “I mean um–fine.” He shrugged, that was also something that people said, to make conversation. It didn’t mean they actually wanted to know how he was doing. At least, he didn’t assume that Mr. Collins actually cared. “Somewhat yeah–I,” Cal paused, deciding to take the plunge, “Actually speaking of work–your work–uh do you have a moment?”

Oscar nodded his head, noting the quietness about the young man before him. He hoped he hadn’t said anything to offend him in their brief interaction thus far. As a lawyer, he knew that he didn’t always have the most approachable look to him. His brow raised as Cal spoke of his work and Oscar nodded his head, “Of course,” he gestured to the seat, “feel free to take a seat.” He wasn’t supposed to be working but the way Cal was acting, Oscar had a feeling he was going to want to hear him out. “What can I do for you, Cal?”

Ever since Valentine’s day, Maddox had taken full advantage of the rekindling between her and Oscar. They were practically back in the honeymoon stage of not being able to keep their hands off each other and there were even nights where she met him at the door when he came home from the office. Pressing her lips together to keep a full smile from appearing on her features her eyes focused on the table of children who were decorating cupcakes. See, this could be her life. She may never have her own children but at least she could observe. She felt arms slide around her waist and as her fingers touched his hand she knew exactly who it was. Her head lead back as she tilted it up to look at him, turning her head to place a kiss on his cheek. “How did you manage to break free?” She teased.

Oscar had renewed his relationship with his wife. He had spent so much time wallowing in his feelings, burying his insecurities that it led him to affairs as a way to feel something, anything. Since the day before Valentine’s Day, when Maddox made a move to rekindle their intimate moments, it hadn’t slowed down. He was greeted at the door by the woman after work, spending few nights at the bar with Jeremy anymore. In the mornings, he was the one to wake her up with peppered kisses everywhere. Spotting Maddox, he snuck up behind her, wrapping his arms around her. Her fingers touched his hand, her head tilting back to look up at him as she planted a kiss on his cheek. He kissed her hair, holding her tight as he looked at the scene before him. Children. A guilt built up in the pit of his stomach but he turned away from it at her question, “A partner has his ways.” He teased back to his wife, “Plus, I wanted to spend the weekend with you and only you.”

Okay Cal, you can do this. It’s time. You know it’s time. What else are you going to do, hide for the rest of your life. You have to do this. For Laney. Here goes. Cal coached himself into approaching Mr. Collins. He’d looked up who the lawyers were in town quite some time ago but wasn’t sure if he could trust them. Also, he obviously had no money to pay them since scraping together enough food and rent every week for him and his family was hard enough as it was. But he also knew that he had to try to figure out what legal options he had with his situation. Maybe. He wasn’t convinced it was the best idea yet since he wasn’t always trusting of the white collar world in general. But today felt like the day when he saw Oscar at the festival. But when he got closer and noticed the man didn’t really seem to be having the best conversation, Cal suddenly thought better of it, instead deciding to continue to walk by instead but as luck would have it he ended up running straight into him. “Oh–fuck ugh, sorry–sorry Mr. Collins.” Never usually one to be nervous, Cal was a wreck, having ran straight into one of his only options for getting full custody of Laney.

Oscar looked up, recognizing the young man from The Barnyard. It wasn’t a bar that the lawyer frequented often, but there had been times that he stopped there to have a drink or two. “No, need to apologize,” he smiled politely at Cal as he grabbed his drink cup and set it back on the table. “I was a bit too eager to grab this runaway cup,” he told him with a light hearted laugh. He kept his hand around the cup that had already managed to fall off the table once before. “How are you doing?” He questioned, “Getting to enjoy the festivities instead of working, I see.” He made an obvious observation, “Or at least for now, huh?”

Anyone that knew Oscar would be surprised to see him in casual wear. As a lawyer, the man’s primary wardrobe consisted of suits, suits and more suits. Opting for a more casual look, Oscar settled himself at table that was nearby the music. It was loud, but not loud enough that Oscar didn’t hear his phone ring. On the weekend, from a client. He groaned as he picked it up to see the Caller ID. Closing his eyes a moment before answering, he prepared himself for the conversation. “I told you, it’s a holiday weekend, call me on Monday. Your issue will survive and,” he paused, gritting his teeth, “just don’t do anything stupid before then.” He said to his client before setting the phone back on the table. As he did so, it knocked his empty cup to the ground. “Damnit,” he muttered to himself, getting up to pick it up, but not before bumping into someone first.

Maddox breathed his name against his lips in a way that he had forgotten he enjoyed. His eyes were closed as he rocked his hand against her. His member grew tighter and tighter and his own jeans. Oscar moved his lips to her neck, teeth grazing her skin. He worked his fingers inside his wife, wanting to pleasure her. He had been neglecting her and wanted to show her that he did still love her, that the distance between them could be fixed. Touches were not lacking in the life of Oscar but as her fingers ran through his hair, he felt himself melting into it. Her fingers were like no one else’s. Tugging on her bottoms, Oscar pulled them down from her, discarding them on the floor to be picked up later. In this moment, the only person, the only thing on his mind was Maddox. He brought his lips back to her core, brushing them along the hem of her underwear before hooking a finger in them. He shimmied them down, throwing them toward where her pants had been. Positioning himself above her still, he brought his lips back to her own as he slipped his hand between her legs. Oscar had nearly forgotten what it was like to pleasure someone because he loved them, not because he was drunk and in another state. Slipping two fingers into her, he moved them inside her, not breaking the kiss they shared.

In the back of his mind, he replayed all the times he was unfaithful to her when he should have been appreciating her, here, in their home. “You are so beautiful,” Oscar leaned forward to press soft kisses against her. He trailed his lips along her jaw line, tracing down before he moved to her neck. His kisses peppered her until they brushed against her collar bone. Oscar leaned back, pulling off his own shirt before leaning back to kiss her stomach, pushing kisses closer to her waist line of the bottoms she was wearing still.

Jonas turned his head to look over at the man, pressing his lips together as he thought about his marriage to Adele. It was a topic he never brought into conversations because it reminded him of his failures. He tapped his finger against the side of his beer bottle, clearing his throat. “Yeah, not having communication in a marriage.” Breathing out, the man glanced towards his beer bottle. “Your wife packs her things and the next time you have any form of contact with it’s divorce papers.” He brushed his tongue along his lower lip, turning his head to look at Oscar. “Yeah… don’t be like me. I let my job take over my life when I was married and I neglected the person I should have made a priority.” He shrugged. “It’s hard to feel a lot of regret over my actions because I don’t think I ever would have eased up on my hours, I never would have had Maya and I wouldn’t be lookin’ to settle down in a small town but… You never know. Maybe you have something worth saving but assuming things, Oscar… It doesn’t do anything but drive you crazy.”

Oscar looked at Jonas as the man clearly spoke from experience. “Shit,” he didn’t know Jonas had been married and divorced. “that’s -” Oscar trailed off, unable to find the right word. It was rough. It was shitty. He was certain that Jonas knew all those things from having experienced it. The mere thought had him realizing he was doing the same thing, over and over again. Neglecting Maddox was only going to catch up to him in the end - even if he had been pushed away by her want for kids more than she seemed to want him. “You make a good point,” he knew Jonas loved and adored his daughter and wouldn’t trade her for the world, but did Oscar want to find out the hard way how much he would miss Maddox if she left while he was gone on a trip one day? “I’m goin’ to work harder.” He admitted, nodding his head. Though, he had a feeling he was going to have to work a lot harder than he could imagine to fix things with his wife.
