oscar definitely felt like he was seventeen again. back in the town he grew up in, hiding from his dad to avoid confrontation, and laying down on one of the town’s benches, completely oblivious to the world around him. if he had a walkman, well, he wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. but he doesn’t, so oscar takes to reading up on some emails and blaring jazz out loud. an alarm that he didn’t notice he still had on had suddenly blaring out the worst of the worst tones, leaving oscar to stumble with his phone, it being flipped around mid-air, ending with the phone dropping on the ground. “oh come on now.” he muttered, pushing himself up to retrieve it.
“i try. but i paid good money for how i look, i like to be admired.” amaryllis purred, flashing a cocky grin towards the stranger. “as long as nobody’s tryn’a fight, whatever. and you ain’t so bad y’self.” he added, tilting his chin up slightly.
he grinned, looking down. “probably a bit overdressed for this whole town. i appreciate the compliment, though.” he looked back up. “are you..are you from here? a weird question, i know, but i was just curious. and don’t worry, i’m not trying to start anything.” he reassured the other.
❅ ——— she watches with small curl in the corner of her mouth, gaze following his fork into the herring with mustard — it grows immensely watching the determination in his face turn into a look of satisfaction, “no, but i’m surprised you actually swallowed it. so, brownie points.”
oscar shrugged, happy with the evaluation. “i’m good with that. some brownie points is better than nothing.” he stated. putting the utensil down, he looked back up at her again. “what do you call it anyway? the name of the recipe?”
❅ ——— “that’s a pretty strong claim for someones that never tasted it.” she dangles the foreign food on her fork in front of her company, however she’s fine with having her favourite dish all to herself. that being said, a quick grin flashes crosses two thin lines, savouring every last morsel of her dish — overplaying her enjoyment slightly for the sake of causing a reaction.
never one to back down from a challenge - explicitly stated or not - oscar grabbed a utensil and took a piece of the other’s food. he then proceeded to earnestly chew on it, thinking that’ll show her. unfortunately, the food just didn’t agree with his palate and oscar was left with a less than satisfied look on his face. “there, i tasted it. does that count?”
“what are you lookin’ at–? you better be starin’ at me ‘cause you think i’m cute.” amaryllis huffed, looking over at the person near him. they probably weren’t even staring. he was just in a mood. he was still in his work clothes, dirt and sawdust-covered khaki overalls and a bright orange reflective shirt, and big, half-assed wiped clean, muddy workboots.
“you’re funny.” oscar remarked. his attire was the complete opposite of the other - dress shirt, well-ironed slacks, polished shoes. he knew his dad would get onto him for being more concerned about his looks than how he cooks, but old habits die hard. the city life sucked the small town instincts he had. apparently, also his small town instinct of not staring either. “you’re cute, but that’s not always why people would stare.”
/ i wanted an excuse to put this gif in, so here it is <3 / but hi im jess, nineteen, and i live in the cst timezone!!
so this is oscar lewis. previously oscar dixon-lewis, married to rosalina dixon. ( they hyphenated surnames when they married, then changed back after their divorce )
born and raised in golden, colorado. oscar left town for college and found success in the hustling and bustling of los angeles.
he graduated in marketing.
after graduation, hefound a good job managing the career of an up and coming musician. he first saw rosa performing at a hole-in-the-wall bar, promoted her music on social media and got her signed to a label -- all in one year.
they started dating after two years. married after three. everything was going great...until it wasn’t. the pressures of fame came between them. too much time apart, the stress of touring. they couldn’t find a balance between their work and their personal life.
his label is the comeback kid because after about nine years out of golden, oscar came back and is trying to make something of himself again. his father had a local diner business before, and he is striving to live up to his dad’s legacy. he’s a good cook, but his dad was best, so he’s struggling.
personality-wise, he’s chill, laid-back. something in him still longs for some of that big city life in the fast lane thing, but he manages. sometimes, he does things before thinking about the consequences, but he’s always trying his best. just...he’s trying his darn best yall
thank u for reading <3 i’ll have his pages up soon, but ill have a plot call post up on our ooc discord in a bit !!
