oh, definitely.

that's a technique mostly used by conspiracy theorists in order to get you on their side. the most clever conspiracy theorists and radicals won't explicitly tell you what to believe. they'll give you a set of information and then "let you come to your own conclusions".

except. the conclusions they want you to come to are so off-kilter and unpopular amongst the general public that you then feel like you're in on a little secret. they want you to feel smarter than the average person, because that's the only way conspiracies are possible. "everyone in the world has been tricked except for you, and that makes you special, so welcome to the gang!"

the other thing is that, in order for you to be a genius, that means you have to be better than everyone else on some level. that's never a good thing. feelings of superiority are not something that should be encouraged within a political movement.
