the prominence of AI in art and writing right now actually has a lot in common with the old WASPy 1950s cooking trends we now all scoff at, specifically the over-reliance on what is perceived as high-tech and futuristic, the belief that anything that comes "from science" must inherently have value and be superior to the more organic older methods, the leveraging of a supply chain that is all geared up to destroy the earth, and also an end result so uncanny it is bordering on surreal.
what gets called AI today truly is the shrimp jello of tomorrow.
oh also! an obsession with "shortcuts" at the expense of quality, can't forget about that
Oh wow, the Uffington White Horse mug got some traction, huh? Hello! I'm so glad so many of you liked it!! I absolutely will be making more things with that design; it's so satisfying to me. I'll definitely post more pictures when I do!
In the meantime: HAPPY PRIDE, HAVE SOME QUEER SLUGS 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
Okay, I'm pretty sure all slugs are inherently queer by human standards on account of the whole thing where most species have both kinds of genitalia, and some of them can asexually reproduce, and so on (and also that if they have any kind conception of gender it's wildly incomprehensible by our standards all around), etc etc. But anyway, these ones are also having a little rainbow parade, and I like to think they're having a lovely time of it.
It's quite a small mug -- enough for a double espresso, maybe, or a small cup of tea or rich hot chocolate -- but I'm happy with it!
My liege im sorry to break it to you but your advisor that's actually evil and wants you dead turned out to be straight. I know you really wanted to have an enemies to lovers situation with him. Yeah I'm afraid the poisoning didn't hold any romantic intent behind it. The king of the enemy kingdom is bisexual though, I could send him a letter? Yes, I'll make sure to include multiple threats of homoerotic nature. You will have your toxic yaoi, my liege
wow i was not expecting this 1940s novel about cambridge scholars of soghdian philology to absolute come for my entire life while i was having a real spiritual wobble this evening ANYWAY and then i get 18% in and it's like Crisis Of Faith And Desperation To Believe time and yikes okay
me: okay this is fine I'm just about coping with this I'm only crying a little bit
hmm nope

sometimes your distress does indicate you should stop and respect your limitations. at other times it's more of a baby aquatic mammal being introduced to water for the first time thing. Too bad the difference is so hard to tell.
there is nothing quite like asking a cat in a doorway “in or out”

The Epitaph reads:
Gentle stranger, drop a tear, The C.S.A. lies buried here: In youth it lived and prosper'd well, But like Lucifer it fell; Its body here, its soul in -- well Even if I knew I wouldn't tell. Rest C.S.A. from every strife, Your death is better than your life: And this one line shall grace your grave- Your death gave freedom to the slave.

I’m not Christian, I don’t go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive I’d sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said “it feels good to hate, but we know that it isn’t allowed, so when we’re told that we’re allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget we’re supposed to love”, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk I’d like to perhaps submit that
Anyhow sometimes on the day to day I feel disgust or revulsion and I have to ask myself “is this a danger to anyone at all or am I just looking for something I’m allowed to hate” and a solid 98/100 times it’s the latter so once again thank you pastor D
Cats getting caught doing crimes
it takes quite a bit of social intelligence for a creature to understand:
I know what I am doing is wrong
I know there is an activity that looks similar that is not wrong
If I am quick I can plausibly pass one off as the other
these cats are displaying remarkable theory of mind skills by not only registering that the humans can perceive them but actively trying to manipulate that perception! that requires one to be aware that other individuals have complicated interior thoughts of their own, to know that those thoughts are not always based on truth, and to quickly decide on the best possible “lie” for the situation. this is why I despise animal intelligence tasks based on obedience— some of the most clever moments stem from intelligent disobedience.
My latest book is now live! Set in Minnesota in 2011 (so, basically historical fiction at this point), Diary of a Cranky Bookworm is the diary of Sage Perrault, obsessive reader, fierce defender of her friends (even when they drive her up the wall), intent on avoiding any awkward Realizations about, let's say, her sexuality that might cut into her precious reading time.
I started writing this book in 2011 while living in Minnesota, so it's been a long and winding road to completion. Glad to have Sage's story out there now!
Reminding everyone again of Batman’s Aff His Nut by Robert Florence—the most poem ever.

"you don't owe anyone anything" You are a tar pit. Speak for yourself. I personally owe the cafe employees my dishes put away and my friends a listening ear and small scared insects a cup and a gentle trip outside. Hyperindividualism is a rancid infection borne of capitalism and willfully misinterpreted therapyspeak and I will defy it by continuing to be kind regardless of whether or not it benefits me personally
