You sighed as you stepped out of the subway station. Why was it always raining? It made everything seem so cold and gloomy. You reached into your bag and pulled out your trusty red umbrella. Luckily you had brought it with you today. After a few times of being caught in the rain and going home in damp clothes looking like a drowned rat you had taken to always keeping an umbrella in your bag for days like this.
Taking a deep breath to prepare yourself you stepped out into the rain, careful to make sure your whole body was protected from the rain. You walked down the streets, looking into a few shops as you went. It was surprisingly busy despite the rain. Couples were window shopping while cuddling close under their shared umbrellas. Friends laughed and joked around under the shelter of the shops. You smiled slightly to yourself, a bittersweet feeling growing in your heart. You had never been a very social person, always being a but of an introvert. However today you found yourself feeling a bit lonely.
You pouted your lips slightly while wishing you had someone to spend these rainy days with. Maybe then they wouldn’t feel so cold and empty. Just then you felt someone lightly brush past you. Looking up you saw a young man, probably around your age, rushing to find shelter from the rain. He had a hoodie on but no umbrella, and you frowned as you watched him. He was completely soaked and you could see his body shivering and shaking from the cold. You bit your lip in contemplation. He had come to a stop under the awning of a cosmetics store, but he was only partially covered. There were others using it as cover and he seemed reluctant to get closer to them. He kept shooting them anxious looks as though they might jump him at any moment.
You were completely torn over what to do. A part of you wanted to give him your umbrella… But then you would get soaked. As you were wrestling with yourself you saw him begin to cough, his body shaking from the force. Then his head raise and you got your first look at his face. You couldn’t see him very clearly as he was wearing a hood and a mask but it was his eyes that made your heart sink. He was obviously a bit ill and he looked completely exhausted. You felt a tug on your heart and immediately made up your mind. You were a healthy girl, a little rain wouldn’t hurt you. He needed it more than you.
Timidly, you made your way over to him. As you got closer you realized he was actually very handsome. He was quite tall and towered over your small frame, and he had subtle, graceful muscles. His skin was flawless and fair, despite the dark circles under his eyes. Speaking of which, he had the most beautiful eyes you had ever seen. They were big and clear, so innocent and pretty. They reminded you of a deers eyes.
You cleared your throat to get his attention and his eyes shot up to meet yours looking startled. You temporarily forgot what you were going to say as you got lost in his eyes. Your mouth opened and closed, probably reminding him of a goldfish, and you felt your cheeks burn in embarrassment.
You shook your head trying to collect your thoughts. “Um, here. You look like you need this more than me,” you said softly as you grabbed his cold hand and placed the umbrella in it. You turned to walk away but you were stopped by a gentle grip on your elbow.
“Wait,” he called softly.
You looked back at him questioningly. “I can’t take this. What will you use then?” He tried to hand it back to you but you simply smile kindly at him. “I’ll be fine. I don’t have far to go. Besides, I’m stronger than I look,” you assured him.
He shook his head at you, “I can’t let you get soaked because of me. What kind of a man would I be if I let a girl freeze while I stay dry?” You resisted the urge to roll your eyes knowing he was just trying to be chivalrous.
“Well I can’t go home with a clear conscience knowing I left you out here to get sick,” you argued. His eyebrows furrowed and he seemed to be in deep thought. “How about we both share the umbrella until we reach a coffee shop or something and then we can wait until the rain stops. Unless you have somewhere you need to be?” His eyes looked hopeful, and you felt your stomach flop. Gosh, he was so cute.
“No.. I guess I could do that,” you replied, trying not to appear too eager. His eyes crinkled slightly, so that although you couldn’t see it, you knew he was smiling. His smile proved to be contagious and you found you couldn’t stop the grin that bloomed on your face. He stepped out from under the awning and held the umbrella out slightly, his eyes inviting you to join him. You smiled shyly and stepped under, careful to give him his space. He chuckled lowly and your stomach did another flip. “You’re going to have to come closer if you don’t want to get rained on. I promise I don’t bite,” he said jokingly as he gently grabbed your arm and pulled you close.
You felt your face warm again and found you were glad the sun wet down so early these days. You two walked slowly and in silence on your way to find refuge. Strangely the silence wasn’t at all awkward or uncomfortable, rather it was calming and comfortable. A companionable silence. However, your heart was anything but calm as it pounded in your chest. What is wrong with me? You felt felt like a young girl with a crush. You could feel the heat from his arm as it rubbed against yours. Such a light, innocent touch was causing butterflies to erupt and your heart to speed up. You hadn’t felt this nervous or excited in a long time.
You quickly reached the cafe and you silently wished for time to slow down. It was strange but you found you didn’t mind walking in the rain if it was with him.
Walking into the packed cafe the two of you quickly made your way to two open chairs near the back of the room. “Wow it’s packed in here. I guess there are a lot of people looking for a place to warm up,” his smooth voice washed over you and you glanced up at him as you took your seat. In the bright light of the cafe you found he was even more handsome than you had initially thought. How was someone this attractive alone on a Friday night? You came out of your thoughts to find him watching you with smiling eyes. You resisted the urge to blush again and attempted to distract him.
“So, what are you doing out in the rain all alone on a Friday night?” You asked curiously, as you rubbed your hands together trying to restore warmth to them. His eyes crinkled adorably again, and you found yourself wishing he would remove the mask that covered the bottom half of his face. His smile must be simply radiant.
“I could ask you the same thing,” he raised his eyebrow at you. You chuckled quietly, waiting for him to answer. “Well… I just felt like I needed to escape for a whole. Spend some time alone and clear my head. I hadn’t really expected it to rain,” he finished and you could hear the exhaustion in his voice. Clearly he was having a hard time over something. You felt an urge to erase all his worried until all that was left was his brilliant smile.
“Oh, whoops. My bad. You were hoping for some peace and here I am disturbing you,” you joked, hoping to lighten the mood. You laughed and you felt your heart swell with pride. The sound was so warm and contagious. It warmed your whole body and you no liger could feel the cold.
“Nah, you’re not disturbing me. It’s really nice to have some company,” he admitted sincerely. You smiled back at him, sharing his sentiment.
As the two of you talked about life and your passions the time just flew by. He was so easy to talk to and so sincere. You felt completely comfortable to be yourself around him. It was strange but you felt like you’d known him for forever.
The sound of a phone ringing startled you out of the world you two had been lost in. He looked stunned and confused for a moment before reaching into his pocket to grab his phone. He glanced briefly at the name and his face turned a bit dark. “Hello?” He answered. “I’m sorry… I lost track of time.. Okay.. Okay.. I’ll be back soon.” The call was short and he hung up without any sort of farewell. He spotted your concerned look and smiled gently at you. “I’m sorry but I have to get going.”
You nodded, still feeling slightly worried, “It’s okay. You don’t have to apologize. We were just waiting out the rain, and look, it’s stopped.” You pointed out the window where sure enough the rain had stopped pouring down. “I guess you’re right,” you felt butterflies dance in your stomach again at the slight sadness in his voice. Maybe he also felt what you did. You couldn’t really give it a name but you did know you felt very reluctant to part with your mysterious, handsome new friend.
“Well, where are you headed? The least I can do is walk you there,” he offered as he stood from his seat and grabbed his bag. Your lips spoke the opposite of your thoughts, “Oh no, you don’t have to do that. Don’t worry about me. You should get going.” Your heart screamed at you for saying words you didn’t mean and you barely stopped yourself from grabbing onto him and admitting you didn’t want him to leave. His gaze locked with yours and your breath caught in your throat. His eyes burned intensely as they desperately cling to yours. “But I want to,” he said, his voice slightly husky.
In that moment you knew you would do anything he asked so long as he kept looking at you with those eyes and speaking in that mesmerizing tone. You simply nodded dumbly and followed him out of the cafe, unable to speak. It was silent for a moment until he broke the silence, his voice sparkling with laughter, “So.. are you going to tell me where we’re going?” You could have smacked yourself. How embarrassing. “Ah, right. The subway station just up that way,” you pointed to the left as you spoke.
The two of you chatted a bit more as you walked and he seemed happy for the distraction. You were really curious about what was bothering him, but you chose to keep those thoughts to yourself. He clearly didn’t want to talk about it. You found yourself feeling quite disappointed when you reached the station. The thought of parting ways and never seeing him again made your heart ache.
You turned to him and smiled, trying not to let him see your true feelings. “Well, this is my stop. It was nice chatting with you… I truly hope everything works out for you.” You waved shyly and turned to walk away. You were worried that if you stayed any longer you wouldn’t be able to control your feelings anymore.
“Wait,” he called out as he reached out and grabbed your hand gently in his. You turned around your eyes wide as your heart tried desperately to escape from your chest. You opened your mouth to say something but words escaped you and you simply stared at him in surprise. He glanced around nervously, “Come with me.” He pulled lightly on your hand that was still held tightly in his and lead you to the edge of the room where it was less busy. He looked around once more before sighing and reaching up with his free hand to remove his mask.
You were immediately struck with how unbelievably attractive he was, pretty even. There was something about his face that seemed familiar but you couldn’t place it. All you could think about was how beautiful he was and how good it felt to have your hand in his. Someone brushed past the two of you and he took a step towards you, your back hitting the wall as his face paused inches from yours. You swallowed nervously as your eyes drifted without permission t his full pink lips. Hos eyes met yours and he quickly pulled back and you could have sworn you saw him blush.
“Sorry,” he apologized awkwardly. “I couldn’t just let you leave without even knowing who I was.. I don’t think I could stand it if you easily forgot about me,” he confessed quietly. “That’s unlikely to happen,” you mumbled under your breath, hoping he hadn’t heard you. Judging by the slightly smug look on his face however he had heard you just fine. “My name is Luhan,” he said and then looked at you expectantly.
You felt the wheels of your mind start to turn wildly. Why was that familiar? What am I supposed to be remembering right now? Ding! Your eyes widened as the answer finally came to you. “Aren’t you a member of that idol group?.. X umm… X.. X-something?” He laughed as he watched you with affectionate eyes, “Yes, I am.” You nodded blankly, unsure of how to react, “Oh.”
He sighed in mock exasperation, “Can you please stop being so adorable? You’re making it really hard for me to leave.” Your face burned scarlet as you stuttered an unintelligible response. His grin widened. You bit your lip in embarrassment before changing the subject, “You really should go. It sounds like your late already.” You wanted to kick yourself for your automatic responses that always contradicted your true feelings. His smile turned sad and he nodded reluctantly, “Yeah, I really should.”
Yet he made no move to go and you were once again at a loss of what to say. Suddenly he shook his head and began to search his pockets as he spoke, “This won’t do. I can’t leave not knowing if I’ll ever see you again. Put your number in here.” He pulled out his phone and held it out for you to take. You were stunned. What kind of situation was this? Was this really happening? When you hesitated he reached out and grabbed your hand placing the phone in your grasp. You took it skeptically and quickly punched in your name and number. You handed it back and his smile nearly blinded you. “Thanks. I really do have to go now. You better not ignore my calls! I will find you if you do,” he winked sending you one last brilliant smile before replacing his mask and walking away.
You stood there dumbfounded for a minute until an announcement about your train startled you out of your daze. You rushed to reach it on tie and slumped down in your seat, panting from the run. The farther you got from the station the more you started to believe the whole thing had been a dream, just a figment of your imagination.
“You have a message.”
You jumped in surprise as your ringtone startled you out of your thoughts. You pulled your phone out of your bag and turned it on. The new message was from an unknown number and you opened it curiously. “It’s Luhan. Make sure you save my number. Just so you know.. you’re saved under ‘My Girl’.” You bit your lip as a silly grin slid its way onto your face. Perhaps it wasn’t a dream, but it was possibly even better than one.
As you stepped out of the station near your house you glanced up as raindrops fell gently from the sky. Strangely, the rain no longer seemed gloomy and cold and you smiled happily as they caressed your skin. You opened your trusty red umbrella and continued on your journey home.
Another little drabble I wrote on my other account
