After All
Phinks x Reader
Red String of Fate Soulmate AU
Warning: Phinks has no romantic bones in his body, implied murder of side character and kidnapping.
Phinks had two problems. The first was that he was out of beer. The second was that his soulmate was kissing another man. He'd need to go to the store later to buy another pack.
To call Phinks a romantic would be akin to saying the desert had hospitable weather. Kindly put, he had never found the need, patience, or social aptitude required for a committed relationship. He was a thief, he took what he wanted.
And now he had to take you.
Phinks let out a sigh as he crushed his now empty beer can. A pity. About the beer.
His second dilemma was the fault of nothing more than a wispy red string, tied around his pinky finger, that connected his existence to yours. Well, really the part was concerned him was the fact that it tied his nen to yours. All nen users ultimately discovered that if they lost their soulmate, they lost their nen.
Unfortunately, non nen user's could not see the connection, a pity for him and a tragedy for you.
Chrollo had warned the Phantom Troupe members on their expeditions (and the dull moments in between) to keep an eye out for their soulmate. They made no shortage of enemies and it would not do them any good to have their nen held hostage. In the end, a leg could always be sacrificed if it became too much of a hassle.
Phinks admittedly had not been looking as thoroughly as his coworkers. He had been sitting in a park, thoughts wandering and waiting for Feitan when the sight of two lovers caught his eye.
He was not particularly sure as to what caught his attention. You look like any other person he'd find on the street with your hand interlocked with your companion, the sun glinting off your hair, and the light laugh that chimed after you after hearing the other man's joke.
It must have been funny, Phinks thought, or cute or thoughtful as you stopped, pulled the other man by his belt, tenderly grabbed his face, and kissed him. Far to long for a public area anyway.
The very same hand that had grabbed the other man connected Phinks to you. You would not know. You would not know that fate deigned that your life would be forever be intertwined with a selfish man, a thief, and a murderer. Phinks wondered if you could forgive him for that last tid bit, after all you were his soulmate. For better or for worse, right?
He watched as you and your lover strolled off, getting increasingly annoyed by how touchy the man was with you (and you with him but Phinks could not fault you for that).
Phinks sighed, slapped his legs, and arose. He tossed his (tragically) empty drink to the garbage bin beside him. He casually sent a text to Feitan telling him not to wait up as something came up. Feitan would in no way be pleased with this development but he could deal with it.
Phinks would have to trail the two of you until you reached your accommodation. He wondered what it would look like. He wondered what you would be like.
Would you smile at him like the way you did to your lover now? Would you pepper his face with kisses just because you were happy to see him? Would you wake him up with breakfast and hot coffee every morning because you knew he loathed getting up early.
Those thoughts only made him antsy. He would need to take care of that other man soon, after all Phinks was your soulmate and that man was just an insignificant extra. Phinks was sure you would get over it.
