Otoplasty | Ear Reshaping | Ear Pinning
Discover the transformative effects of otoplasty at Ottawa Derm Centre. Explore the benefits, procedure details, and how our expert team can help you achieve balanced, confident ear aesthetics.
Otoplasty is the cosmetic surgery performed for reshaping of the visible outer ear. To learn more, read on.
What is Otoplasty Surgery?
The ears are generally 2 centimeters from the side of the head, however a larger variation or deformity in shape can cause patients to seek out corrective surgery. There are two types of surgery that can be used to correct ear shaping: Otoplasty and Incisionless Surgery. During a consultation, your surgeon will discuss both options with you and will recommend the best option to meet your goals.
The Treatment
Otoplasty: A local anesthetic will be used during your surgical procedure. For children, a general anesthetic is used. An incision is made behind the ear and stitches will be placed to reshape the ear. In certain cases, the removal of cartilage may be necessary. The incision may leave a very fine scar that is hidden behind the ears and will fade over time.
Incisionless Surgery: Certain cases do not require an incision to be made, instead a needle will be placed in the ear to soften the cartilage, allowing it to become more flexible. Stitches will be used to reshape the ear and lessen the prominence of them from the head. With no incisions made, this procedure tends to have a faster healing and recovery time.
Bruising, soreness, and swelling are all common post-surgery. Your surgeon will outline the time associated with healing. Protective headbands to cover the ears will be used when you are sleeping.

Cyst Excision (Removal)
Many people develop lumps and/or bumps directly under their skin. This can of worry to some, but with a proper assessment, we can diagnose the bump if needed and assure you of how we can remove it for you. In most cases, these lumps and bumps are harmless cysts. You may even have an above-skin surface mole you’d like removed. To learn more about cyst and mole excision, read on.
What is Cyst Excision?
Let’s first determine what a cyst is. A cyst is a sac-like pocket of membranous tissue fluid, air, or other substances. Cysts can grow almost anywhere on the body under the skin. When removing a cyst, it is imperative to remove the entire sac, so it does not fill up again. If bothersome, cysts can be removed using excision.
Cyst
The surgeon will use one of the following methods to remove your cyst. The approximate cost for cyst removal with a surgeon starts at $1,300 and $800 with a family doctor. Cost may vary depending on the complexity of the cyst.
– Conventional wide excision is not the most preferred but will be used if the cyst is large. This is a longer incision made in the skin, by a surgical scalpel to remove the entire cyst. The incision is stitched when finished.
– Minimal excision is preferred as it leaves minimal scarring. Your surgeon will use this method only when they can ensure that they can remove the entire cyst. 1-2 stitches will be used to close the incision site once removed.
– Laser with punch biopsy method is performed by creating a small hole with a laser. Then the contents of the cyst are completely drained, and the walls/sac of the cyst are removed later. This usually requires no stitching and the scar left behind is minimal.
After your cyst is removed, our provider may give you antibiotic therapy in pill, cream, or ointment form to ensure you do not get an infection. In most cases, a scar-reducing cream or ointment will also be provided.

Liposuction | Ottawa Derm Centre
Do you have stubborn areas of fat that just won’t seem to budge despite regular exercise and a healthy diet? If so, liposuction may be a good option for you. This procedure is an effective option for slimming and contouring many different areas of the body for a more proportionate figure. At Ottawa Derm Centre, we perform liposuction on many different areas of the body.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure performed to reshape and slim specific areas of the body by eliminating excess fat deposits. It can be performed alone or along with other plastic surgery procedures to further enhance results.
Liposuction can treat the following areas:
Abdomen and waist
Hips and buttocks
Thighs
Upper arms
Back
Inner knees
Calves and ankles
Cheeks, chin, and neck
The Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction involves one or more small incisions being made in or near the treatment area. A thin tube called a cannula will be inserted through the incisions to loosen excess fat beneath the skin. The fat is then suctioned out using a number of different techniques. Some of the most common types of liposuction used today include:
Tumescent Liposuction
An anesthetic “tumescent” solution will be injected into the treatment area to minimize discomfort and bleeding during the procedure.
Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction
During this technique, ultrasound energy is used to help break apart the fatty tissue and loosen it from the body. This allows for easier removal of larger amounts of fat.
Laser-Assisted Liposuction
This technique uses laser energy to help loosen fat cells, making it easier to remove them from the body. Brand names include SmartLipo and Slimlipo.
Suction-Assisted Liposuction
A vacuum-like device is used to help remove fat from the body. Power-assisted liposuction is a similar technique that uses a tool to enhance the motion of the cannula used to remove fat.
Liposuction Recovery
Swelling, bruising, and discomfort may occur following liposuction, though this will dissipate over time. You may be given a special compression garment to wear for the first few weeks to help minimize swelling. Many people can return to work after just a few days, though this will depend on the nature of the job. Your cosmetic surgeon will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your treatment sites to ensure the best possible results.
Candidates for Liposuction
Adults who are bothered by stubborn areas of fat on their bodies can often benefit from liposuction. Ideal candidates are within 30% of their ideal body weight with firm, elastic skin, do not have medical conditions that could impair healing and are nonsmokers. Overall, the best way to determine if liposuction is right for you is to schedule a consultation with our facial cosmetic surgeons, Dr. Bonaparte or Dr. Chitte. During this appointment, you will be able to discuss your cosmetic goals, as well as ask any questions that you may have so that a personalized treatment plan can be made for you.

BroadBand Light (BBL) at Ottawa Derm Centre: Skin Transformation
Broadband light (BBL) is an innovative treatment used to target pigmented lesions (e.g. age spots, freckles), uneven skin pigmentation, tone or texture, vascular lesions (broken capillaries, spider veins), rosacea, and redness. BBL is also proven to prevent the signs of ageing and can be used to improve the overall quality of your skin. It can be used on all parts of the body including the face, neck, and hands.
BBL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths to target your skin’s underlying layers. Your skin absorbs the light energy, which promotes collagen production and breaks down the pigmented (darker) skin cells which your immune system will naturally expel.
BBL Hero
BBL Hero enables the treatment of multiple skin conditions such as: acne, pigmented lesions, freckles, brown spots, sun damage, age spots, vascular lesions, cherry angiomas, rosacea, telangiectasias, deeper lesions, darker skin types, skin laxity and more!
BBL HERO® (High Energy Rapid Output™) is revolutionary technology ensuring results are quickly delivered anywhere on the body.
BBL HERO® innovations deliver 4x the speed, 3x the peak power, and 2x the cooling, creating greater capacity to treat more patients quicker and is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device on the market.
Quickly treats the face and large areas such as back, arms, and legs in 2-5 minutes
BBL Forever Young
Forever Young™ is recognized worldwide to provide consistent outstanding results. Clinically proven, it turns back the clock by addressing the visible signs associated with aging skin. Forever Young is an innovative technology that uniquely delivers light therapy targeting the signs of aging and sun damage and effectively provides a more refreshed, rejuvenated and youthful appearance. With Forever Young, skin will look clearer, smoother, pigment and vascularity reduced and overall revitalized.
BBL Forever Clear
Forever Clear® is a cutting-edge acne treatment that uses the power of light to comfortably and effectively clear acne without creams or medicine. BBL® is the world’s most powerful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) device delivering light energy deep into your skin to stimulate and regenerate your skin cells, leaving you with clear, healthy, radiant skin. Skin is first treated with Blue BBL light to eliminate acne-causing bacteria at its source, deep down in the pores. Skin is then treated with Yellow BBL light to reduce the inflammation and acne-associated redness to give you healthy, luminous skin.
Who is an ideal candidate for BBL?
BBL works best on lighter skin tones. Darker skin tones should avoid BBL, as the darker pigment absorbs too much light that can cause dark spots (hyperpigmentation) to appear. Most patients avoid BBL treatments during summer months because of tanned skin. Typically, treatments are undertaken three times a year avoiding the summer months.
How do I prepare for a BBL treatment?
Avoid sun exposure within four weeks of receiving a BBL treatment. Avoid using fake tanners within two weeks of treatment.
Avoid using skincare products with active ingredients such as retinols, glycolics, AHA, topical vitamin C and A, at least 1 week prior to your treatment.
Inform your provider if you experience recurring cold sores or are using prescription skin treatments that increase your skin’s photosensitivity. Ensure you come in with clean skin and no makeup.Visit Type- Choose - Botox on Demand Cosmetic Consultation Cosmetic Consultation w/Dermatologist Cosmetic Consultation w/Dermatologist & Surgeon Cosmetic Consultation w/Surgeon Cosmetic Consultation w/Surgeon & Aesthetician Cosmetic Treatment - Existing Patients ODC Acne Solution ODC Customized Facials / Peels Visit Reason- Choose - Acne (Mild to Moderate) - Skin Care / Laser Treatment Acne Scarring - Laser Treatment Age Spot / Sun Spot Removal All Inclusive Rejuvenation Benign Mole Removal Body Contouring / Coolsculpting Botox Botox / Filler & Other Injectables Botox for Sweating - Underarms, Hands and Feet Brown Tones / Pigment Treatment Cherry Angioma - Laser Treatment Cyst Removal (Excluding Face & Neck) Cyst Removal (Face & Neck Only) Facial Sagging Skin / Volume Loss Treatment Facial Veins Hyperpigmentation - Laser Treatment Improving Fine Lines & Wrinkles Laser Hair Removal Lipoma Removal Melasma - Skin Care / Laser Treatment Milia Removal Red Tones / Redness Treatment Reducing Pores and Improving Texture Rosacea - Skin Care / Laser Treatment Scar Treatment (Excluding Keloids) Scar Treatment (Including Keloids) Sclerotherapy ( Spider Veins on Legs ) Skin Care / Skin Quality Treatment Skin Smoothing Skin Tag Removal Stretch Marks - Laser Treatment Sun Damage - Skin Care / Laser Treatment Tattoo Removal Vascular Lesion - Laser Treatment Venous Lake - Laser Treatment Want to Learn More - BBL Treatment Want to Learn More - Clear and Brilliant Treatment Want to Learn More - Co2 Resurfacing Want to Learn More - Coolsculpting Want to Learn More - Halo Hybrid Fractional Treatment Want to Learn More - Moxi Treatment Want to Learn More - Nano Peel Treatment Want to Learn More - Opus Treatment Want to Learn More - PDL Vbeam Treatment Want to Learn More - Photorejuvenation Want to Learn More - PicoWay Treatment Want to Learn More - Secret RF Treatment Want to Learn More - SkinTyte Treatment Want to Learn More - Thermage Treatment Want to Learn More - Ultherapy Treatment Women's Health Vaginal Rejuvenation - Intima Laser Treatment

Is there any downtime with a BBL?
There is minimal downtime following a BBL treatment. You’ll be able to resume most of your regular activities. However, it is recommended to avoid anything that causes sweating or flushing (e.g. exercise, hot temperatures, and saunas) for a minimum of 48 hours. If your skin feels sensitive post treatment, avoid using make-up, scented products, deodorants, and active skin care ingredients on the treated area until the side-effects subside.
How does it feel?
During the procedure, your provider will apply a cooling gel to the treatment area. You’ll wear safety shields, goggles, or glasses to protect your eyes. You may experience sensations, pulses, and mild pain throughout the treatment. Your skin may feel slightly warm and appear slightly red, swollen, or sunburned following the treatment.
How long does a treatment take?
BBL treatments usually last around 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of the treatment areas. You will likely require a few treatments scheduled throughout the year. This will be determined with your provider during your consultation.
When will I notice results?
You can expect to see visible changes to your skin within a few days or weeks following your first BBL treatment. Within 2 weeks of your first treatment, your skin may feel smoother and appear more even and bright. You may see fewer discolorations, fine lines, and pores. Blemishes and blood vessels will usually clear up within a few weeks.
As you continue treatments, you will notice more significant changes. Usually, you’ll need to have three to six BBL treatments spaced a few weeks apart. After that, our providers may recommend at least two treatments per year to maintain and improve your results.
BBL is one of the longest-studied intense pulse lights (IPLs) in the industry. In studies performed over 10 years by Stanford University, patients who received BBL 3-4 times per year looked around 10 years younger. Ensure to apply a broadband spectrum sunscreen, ideally containing zinc oxide, to promote the longevity of your BBL results.
How do I book a treatment?
All our patients start with a thorough consultation. During your visit, we will discuss your objectives and concerns. Our team will complete an assessment and make recommendations that support your health and objectives. Based on your consultation, we will recommend whether a BBL treatment is right for you.

Skin Resurfacing | Laser Treatment | Best in Ottawa
Skin resurfacing is a process in which the skin is removed layer by layer, or damaged in a microscopic and controlled manner. This creates a healing reaction in the skin that stimulates growth of new and healthy skin, resulting in tighter, healthier, smoother, and a more evenly toned appearance. Patients very commonly seek to improve their skin texture. Bumps, flaking, creping, wrinkles, and acne scars, among many other symptoms, can present themselves as texture issues on the skin. We can help reduce the irregularities and make your skin appear and feel smoother. Ideally the skin on our face and body is smooth, supple, and soft but, as we age, our cellular turnover slows down and can create skin texture issues, resulting in dull, bumpy, blemished and sometimes flaky skin. Our team of experts can help smooth the skin out through a variety of treatment options.

CoolSculpting | Fat Freezing Near Me Cost | Ottawa ON
CoolSculpting® is a leading non-surgical fat-reduction treatment that helps you meet your HealthPower goals. It uses controlled cooling to eliminate stubborn fat that’s difficult to shift, even with diet and exercise. It has proven results that last, and helps you achieve your ideal look. That’s CoolSculpting®!
What is CoolSculpting:
CoolSculpting is a fat-freezing procedure that destroys fat cells in different parts of the body to reshape and contour your body image. This non-invasive procedure eliminates stubborn pockets of fat using cryolipolysis, which freezes away your fat cells. At the Ottawa Derm Centre, our team is highly skilled in performing CoolSculpting treatments on many parts of the body so you can enjoy a slimmer, more contoured you.
Who is an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting?
Ideal candidates for CoolSculpting are at or near their ideal body weight but want to reduce stubborn fat deposits. This procedure is best suited for individuals that have a healthy lifestyle consisting of good nutrition and regular exercise.
Unlike weight-loss surgery such as liposuction or gastric bypass, CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution for people who are looking to resolve significant amounts of body fat (such as obesity). Also, it is not suited for individuals who suffer from cryoglobulinaemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. A consultation with one of our CoolSculpting practitioners will determine if this procedure is right for you.
How do I prepare for a CoolSculpting treatment?
There is no or very minimal preparation for CoolSculpting treatments. A few days before your treatment, you will want to avoid medications or supplements that can thin the blood such as fish oil, aspirin, and ibuprofen. Be aware of some blood-thinning herbal supplements too, like ginger and turmeric. Taking a blood thinner prior to your treatment can increase the risk of bruising.
Is there any downtime with a CoolSculpting treatment?
The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical and generally warrants no downtime. Most patients tend to return to their normal activities, including work, immediately after the treatment.
How does it feel?
Once your treatment areas are identified, we will apply a clear gel pad to your skin to create a barrier between the cooling panel and your skin. You will feel a slight sucking or pulling sensation once the CoolSculpting applicator adheres to your body. You may then experience a number of sensations including mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, aching, or cramping. These sensations will subside once the area becomes numb. Patients typically read, answer emails, or relax during the treatment. Once the treatment is completed, the applicator will be detached, and we will briefly massage the treatment area to break up fat cells.
How long does a treatment take?
The length of your CoolSculpting treatment will vary depending on the area and number of areas being treated. (A treatment can range from an hour to several hours). At the Ottawa Derm Centre, we have multiple CoolSculpting systems so we can treat different body parts simultaneously and clients can start looking their best faster.
When will I notice results?
Most patients see up to 20-25% fat reduction in the treatment areas in approximately 2 months following treatment. Patients continue to flush out fat cells for up to 4 to 6 months following treatment. Some patients may require more than one treatment to reach their desired results.
How much is a CoolSculpting treatment?
On average we charge approximately $800 per cycle. On average a patient will use 4-6 cycles per treatment depending on the treatment area. Patients generally average 1 to 2 treatments for best results.
How do I book a treatment?
All our patients start with a thorough consultation. During your visit, we will discuss your objectives and concerns. One of our CoolSculpting professionals will complete an assessment and make recommendations that support your health and well-being. If you are deemed a good candidate, we will be able to book your CoolSculpting session then.
Facelift in Ottawa: What It Is and Why It Could Be Right for You
As we age, the skin on our face naturally loses its elasticity, and we can start to see sagging, wrinkles, and a tired appearance. For many people, this can be frustrating because it doesn't always reflect how they feel inside. A facelift is a popular surgery designed to help reverse these signs of aging and restore a more youthful, refreshed look.
In this post, we’ll explain what a facelift is, the benefits, and whether it's the right choice for you.
What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the skin on your face to reduce signs of aging. The surgery typically focuses on areas like the cheeks, jawline, and neck, helping to smooth out wrinkles, remove excess skin, and restore volume. It can make your face look younger and more vibrant by tightening loose skin and improving facial contours.
Types of Facelifts
There are different types of facelift procedures, depending on your needs and the results you're hoping for:
Traditional Facelift This is the most common type of facelift. It involves making incisions around the hairline and ears to lift and tighten the skin on your face and neck. It can address sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and loss of volume.
Mini Facelift A mini facelift is less invasive and involves smaller incisions. It's often done for people with early signs of aging and targets the lower face and jawline.
Neck Lift A neck lift focuses on tightening loose skin and muscles in the neck area. It's sometimes done in combination with a facelift for more complete rejuvenation.
Non-Surgical Options For those who want a less invasive option, treatments like Botox or dermal fillers can give a temporary lift without surgery.
Benefits of a Facelift
A facelift can offer several benefits, both physically and emotionally:
You Look Younger The most obvious benefit is a more youthful appearance. A facelift can smooth out wrinkles, tighten sagging skin, and restore facial contours.
Boost in Confidence Many people feel more confident and happier with their appearance after a facelift. Looking younger can help you feel more energetic and positive about how you look.
Long-Lasting Results A facelift provides results that can last for many years. While it doesn't stop aging, it can keep you looking younger for 5-10 years or more.
Customizable Results Every person’s face is different, and a facelift can be customized to fit your unique needs. Whether you want subtle improvements or a more dramatic transformation, a facelift can be tailored to meet your goals.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
A facelift is a good option for people who:
Are in overall good health
Have visible signs of aging, like sagging skin, jowls, or deep wrinkles
Want to improve their facial appearance but are not yet ready for more extensive surgery
Have realistic expectations and understand the recovery process
What to Expect During the Procedure
During a facelift, a skilled surgeon will make small incisions, typically around the hairline and ears, to lift the skin and underlying tissues. The procedure usually takes a few hours, and you'll be under general anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the surgery.
Recovery After a Facelift
After the surgery, you'll need some time to recover. Most people experience swelling and bruising for a few weeks, but these side effects should subside over time. You may need to take 1-2 weeks off work or other activities to rest. Your surgeon will give you detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
Conclusion
If you're looking for a way to turn back the clock and restore a more youthful appearance, a facelift could be a great option. Whether you're interested in a full facelift or just a mini-lift, the procedure can help you feel more confident in your appearance.
Before deciding if a facelift is right for you, it's important to consult with a qualified surgeon who can assess your goals and discuss the best treatment plan for your needs.

The Facelift Procedure
There are a number of different facelift techniques available today. The one that is right for you will depend on your individual needs, and your cosmetic surgeon’s recommendation. These techniques include:
Mini-Facelift
This technique is best for patients with a mild degree of sagging skin, as it is less invasive than a standard facelift. During this procedure, short incisions located along the hairline above each ear and in the natural creases surrounding the ear are made. Through these incisions, tissues around the cheeks are tightened and lifted to correct jowling and refine the jawline.
Standard Facelift
This technique is more comprehensive and addresses moderate to advanced aging around the mid-face and neck. Incisions are made just behind the hairline beginning near the temples and around the front of the ear. Through these incisions, your surgeon will reposition the deep tissues beneath the skin and remove any excess skin to create a more youthful facial and neck contour.
Facelift Recovery
Following the facelift procedure, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort, which will gradually get better with time. Most patients can return to their normal activities after about two weeks, though strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided for about four weeks. The face should also be protected from the sun, as patients will be more vulnerable to sunburn for several weeks after surgery. Every person heals a little differently, so your cosmetic surgeon will provide you with specific instructions on how to properly care for your treatment site for the best results.
Candidates for a Facelift
Adults who feel that their face does not reflect their energy level or youthful spirit, or are unhappy with facial sagging and excess skin on their face and neck can often benefit from a facelift. A consultation at our office is needed to best determine the treatment option for you.

Anti-Aging Treatments Ottawa | Treatments & Candidates
Aging is a part of life, and it really starts from our first breath. We often associate aging with the visible effects it has on our appearance, but there is so much more going on internally that is a pre-cursor to what we see. If you’d like to learn more on how we approach preventative aging and its effects, read on.
What Does Preventative Aging Entail?
Preventative aging is the process in which we consciously make healthier decisions. Aging can be affected by intrinsic (internal) factors such as genetics, and extrinsic (external) factors such as UV exposure, smoking, pollution, lifestyle, and many more. When we think of preventing aging, we want to first try to slow the acceleration of aging by reducing the assault of any extrinsic factors. With a health approach, we can also attempt to prevent the visible signs of aging through preventative treatments.

Comprehensive Guide to Understanding Dermal Fillers
In the quest for youthful and radiant skin, dermal fillers have emerged as a popular choice among those seeking non-surgical cosmetic enhancements in Ottawa. Whether you're considering them to smooth out wrinkles, add volume to lips, or contour facial features, understanding the ins and outs of dermal fillers is crucial. Here’s everything you need to know before making an informed decision:
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. They are primarily used to rejuvenate the face, hands, and other areas, providing a more youthful appearance without the need for surgery.
Types of Dermal Fillers
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: These are the most common fillers, known for their ability to hydrate and plump the skin. Brands like Juvederm and Restylane fall under this category.
Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers: These fillers stimulate collagen production and are particularly effective for deeper wrinkles and volume loss.
Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA) Fillers: PLLA stimulates collagen production gradually, offering subtle results over time. It's often used for deeper lines and areas with significant volume loss.
Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers: These are semi-permanent fillers that provide long-lasting support for deeper wrinkles and folds.
Autologous Fat Injections: Fat is harvested from your own body (usually from the abdomen or thighs) and injected into desired areas after processing.
What to Expect During Treatment
Dermal filler injections are typically performed in a medical office by a trained healthcare provider. The procedure is relatively quick, often taking less than an hour depending on the areas treated. Topical or injectable anesthesia may be used to minimize discomfort.
Benefits of Dermal Fillers
Immediate Results: You can see the effects of dermal fillers right after the treatment.
Minimal Downtime: Most people resume normal activities immediately.
Customizable: Fillers can be tailored to achieve natural-looking results that suit your facial structure.
Temporary: Results can last from several months to over a year, depending on the type of filler used.
Potential Side Effects
While generally safe, dermal fillers can cause temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site. More serious complications like infection or allergic reactions are rare but possible.
Choosing a Provider
It's crucial to select a qualified healthcare provider experienced in administering dermal fillers. Research their credentials, review before-and-after photos, and discuss your expectations during a consultation.
Aftercare Tips
After treatment, you may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and certain medications or supplements that can increase bruising. Follow your provider's specific aftercare instructions for the best results.
Cost Considerations
The cost of dermal fillers varies based on the type used, the amount required, and the provider's expertise. Prices typically range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars per treatment session.
Conclusion
Dermal fillers offer a non-invasive option for enhancing facial features and achieving a more youthful appearance. By understanding the different types of fillers, the treatment process, and potential outcomes, you can make an informed decision about whether they are right for you.
