The invitation is based on the interrogative method, called socratic, as a generative system of ideas, from the Greek “maieutike” (understood). This approach allows a deep and bias- free dialogue. Why so many broken umbrellas abandoned in the cities? The question wants to be first of all a reflection on how quite common and everyday objects can be made extraordinary by being photographed. The things of our daily life are considered as the subject of images, but since we usually neglect them, or keep them on the margins of our lives, we do not automatically give them credit as subjects of an artistic lexicon. The research that I propose to you, therefore, is aimed at analyzing the phenomenon of the broken umbrella, a seemingly trivial fact, geographically limited to an urban area and unworthy of consideration, but much broader than the casual observer might think.
