I'm a nonbinary bi person (or so i thought) and i don't know anymore if i'm allowed to ID as bi?? I was taught by bi activists that bi means attraction to more than one gender. No mention of binary genders or same genders. Idk what my gender is exactly and idc, so idk if I have same gender attraction and it's honestly irrelevant. I'm not attracted to binary genders or nonbinary people who are closer to the binary, But i'm attracted to a wide range of nonbinary genders as well as agender people, but i keep seeing bi people act as if attraction to nonbinary people doesn't really count? like a lot of people say "oh bi includes nonbinary people" but they only mean this secondary to binary people, as in if you wanna identify as bi you gotta be attracted to both men and women and nonbinary is a common bonus add on rather than a defining feature for many. i also see this with people who are attracted to one binary gender and nonbinary people and are told they're really just gay or straight when they have stated they're bi. idk it's like the gender binary is still some unwritten rule. it's heartbreaking because i actually found comfort in the vagueness and expansiveness of bi due to that definition i found

The people that say you have to be attracted to men and women first to be bi don’t know what they’re talking about. You are allowed to identify as anything you want. Identity as a tree if you want, I don’t care. Be you. Do what you want.

hello! how have u been?

asking from one bi person to another, i know this can vary from person to person but what would u say would help make it clear i am queer? like visual aesthetics and stuff, i am nonbinary and need ideas so im just curious :)

I’ve been good, thanks for asking! I’d say for me personally at least I can usually tell from pins and the like. Also dyed hair, but it varies for everyone

i know this is a blog specifically for bisexuals so this may not fit but i saw someone on reddit say that "if you don't want to fuck and/or date more than one gender you're not bi" and as a biaesthetic, somewhat bissnsual oriented aroace i'm confused. is this true or just regular reddit shittiness

i'm a bi demiro ace (oriented/angled) and i'm having trouble connecting with my bi side, especially with community. i know bi technically also includes potential attraction, so while i've only experience romantic attraction once, i could picture myself romantically with any gender. just that hypothetical though already makes it harder to claim a bi identity. when i thought i was alloromantic it was very easy to identify as biromantic based on potential but when i realised how unlikely my romantic attraction to other genders is because my romantic attraction as a whole is unlikely, i started feeling like a fraud for still claiming a biromantic label. it's even worse with tertiary attraction though. like i used to feel quite a lot of sensual attraction re: kissing towards all genders but it has kind of faded. sometimes i see someone and am like "wow imagine them on top of me, scary! or actually...👀" (nonsexually), but that too is rare and nothing i care to act on. my most prominent attraction is aesthetic attraction and no one tells you how intense aesthetic attraction can be and how it very much can feel like being drawn to someone rather than from afar and way more than just liking to look at/listen to someone. but aesthetic attraction is dismissed by pretty much everyone across the board. allos will make "boys are handsome" part of their gayness but when an aroace says the same thing then it's "just" aesthetic attraction and not enough to be queer. even aroaces will say that they used to identify as bi/pan until they realised it was "just" aesthetic attraction and aren't bi/pan at all, dismissing it as anything that could be important. then there's the wider bi and queer community as a whole who tends to dismiss tertiary attraction and act like you can't be bi if it's not sexual (or romantic, it's usually just bisexual this bisexual that). and aesthetic attraction is usually considered the lowest of the low because "everyone is aesthetically attracted to all genders, that's just being normal" and attraction you don't want to/can't act on is dismissed too. any advice on how to feel more connected with the bi part of my identity and the bi community and feel less like a fraud?

Friend, you truly know my story because you walked it with me. You were there when my mom was fighting cancer; when I came here again and again to crowdfund her treatments, when we sold everything we had just to buy her more time, and when we pulled together to design that unforgettable birthday for her.

Can we talk about how ‘queerbaiting/profiting off the queer community’ accusations are disproportionately aimed at bisexual people?

Particularly in those twitter threads that are like “queer” celebrities who have never dated anyone of the same sex’ -BRO. ONLY AS FAR AS YOU KNOW.

also what does it matter if they haven’t?? Bi people don’t owe anyone their sexual history and they certainly don’t have to be forced to date someone of the opposite sex just to prove their queerness?

Believe people when they tell you who they are.

Real people CANNOT QUEERBAIT. It is a media critique to be applied to writers looking to draw in a queer audience for tv or film.

A real person, be it a celebrity or not, is not some character, nor are they queer ‘representation’ for any particular sexuality.

They are a real person, and do not owe you anything, least of all intimate information about their private lives, sexuality or sexual history.

Real people are not pieces of media to be critiqued. This is getting real parasocial out here y’all.

I don't know if you're the right person to go to for this, but I think I might be nonbinary, idk. I've told a few people in my life, but most don't know. My question is, if I am, does it make sense to go specifically for bisexual partners? Like, I don't believe that gender and sexuality have hard and fast rules, but I know that it can be hard for some nonbinary people to be in relationships with people who are only attracted to one of the two binary genders. Also, I want to avoid looking like a creepy straight man fetishizing bi women.

I would say don’t completely close off your borders, but definitely stay away from creeps.

i am a bi woman and some of my straight friends make comments about how i am lucky that i don't have to date men if i don't want to or that i am lucky that i am also into women. i am having a hard time figuring out why i don't like it when they do. it could be my discomfort level in dating overall but was wondering if anyone else ever experiences this and if it ever makes anyone else uncomfortable? i know no one can tell me why i feel the way i do but i am really struggling with insight on this

That seems like some underlying biphobia to me. Maybe they’re not meaning to do it but it feels like that to me.

im a bi girl and I'm terrified of encompassing the stereotype.

What if I end up with a man? Then everyone who didnt support my bisexuality will be like "Oh thank god shes straight now!!" and everyone who knew about my queerness will just see me as a faker. i hate this. I wish I could be exclusively one way so no one would call me faker and I wouldnt feel like a fraud whenever I'm attracted to someone

I also feel bad that my attraction to women manifests differently than my attraction to men, this is probably due to my lack of a father figure (yay daddy issues..) and my jealousy towards other women which is something i need to sort out.

I dont know if I'm attracted to women romantically too, but if I'm not, then I'll be labelled as a whore, as using lesbians for sex(which i dont want to make someone feel that way at all), etc. When bi men who want to fuck other men are just so quickly accepted as bisexual.

can we talk about how if you go on the bisexual tag on tiktok like 80% of the top videos are videos hating on bisexuals….

like this is NOT normal. If that were the case for any other sexuality people would be up in arms.

also why am I seeing a new trend in the past few days of people posting ‘god sent me a bi man/woman to test me’ and the comments are just people calling bisexuals evil.

If you’re gonna be biphobic the goddamn least you can do is NOT DO IT ON THE BISEXUAL TAG.

I feel so sad and sorry for any bisexual youth and teens looking up the bisexual tag with pride month approaching. Because it’s so so negative and hateful.

Every video is ‘discourse’ about male-centred bi women, bisexuals cheating and how bi people are privileged.

HOW can people say there’s not a biphobia problem when the TOP VIDEOS ON THE BISEXUAL TAG ARE NON-BISEXUALS HATING ON BI PEOPLE
