Presentation by Ben Meyerson

On Wednesday, November 20th 2019, Ben Meyerson from Chicago Tribune that works with Facebook conducted a training to the Missouri Western State University students and members for the News-Press content team. Meyerson informed the group about many topics in his presentation that include Facebook, Instagram, CrowdTangle. 

On Facebook, there is an advanced search option. To allow someone to have the option of using it, the one first has to click the see all button. After all the results pop up, the filter options are on the left side to choose the date and the organization that the post is from. 

One can choose where a page’s post is shown on his or her newsfeed. The page’s content can be seen first. The see first option on Facebook allows one to use it for 30 different pages. 

Instagram allows one is do a search by location. One can look at the story or what post is being posted in the location. Using the location can help find pictures or information for breaking stories 

We were not able to get through the whole presentation, but I would recommend attended a training from him if you get a chance. You should allow more than a hour to get through the presentation.

This week we released photos for the art and wine walk that happened downtown. Although it was simple it still got the word out that he was participating in the event.

Dillon wants to push hard to promote preordering his christmas tins and corporate tins.

Week 10

On Wednesday, I posted a memory on Snapchat. I posted it on my story tagging my friend that took the picture. This is the first time I have tagged someone on snapchat.

 This snapchat is of myself decorating a business's Christmas tree in Kirksville, MO. I have 100 views with 2 of the views not being my friends.

 Also, I posted the video of the trophy on Facebook after I had time to cut out a majority of wasted time. I attempted to post it around 10:30am, but it did not load until 1:47pm. After it got posted, the prime time to post on Facebook had already past.

The video is 18 seconds showing the trophy go through the Nationals Parade. The video has received 33 views with 3 likes.

Also, I posted a picture on Instagram and Tumblr of a stained glass snowman. It is absolutely adorable. On Instagram, the post has received 13 likes with one comment not counting my own. On Tumblr, I has received one note. 

 For ones who have not got to see this adorable snowman, here it is. This is one of my favorite garage sale finds.

Next week in class, we will be learning about scheduling post using a scheduling platform. Hopefully, after next week, I will be able to use a posting service to schedule post to get the greatest audience engagement.

Week 9

This week has been a busy one. I got back from Washington DC Sunday at 1 am and had quite a bit of homework to do this week. I was on Facebook more often this past week. 

On Saturday, Maddi and I got to attend the Nationals Parade. During my video, I had four people watch live. I did get 100 views with 13 reactions and 10 comments. 

I went live on Facebook while I was at the Nationals Parade. This is the first time the Nationals have won the World Series. 

Yesterday, I shared a post about college students. I had one share and 3 likes. I did not get very much engagement, but I did not share it around lunch. Lunch time is normally when most people are on Facebook. 

I shared this after I took my test in Communication Theory. This test I do not think I did well on, because the technology theories we covered were similar to me.

Week 8

As some of you know, I am in @washingtondc for 5 days. I am loving trying new things. The thing I have been most interested about seeing so far was China Town.

For this post I received 41 reactions with 3 comments. For most of my Facebook friends, I post it at 9:19 back home in Missouri. Personally, I think 9:19pm is a good time to post for my audience. 

 The first picture is of a California sushi roll. We ate at the Sushi Rock for lunch on the first day.

On the second day in Washington DC, it was Halloween. At night, the girls and I dressed up for Halloween and we went out. I dressed up as a vampire. 

I posted a picture of Maddi and I on Snapchat and we received 101 views. Also, I posted a video of a local rapper that had 101 and 99 views.

Week 7

At the beginning of the week, I posted a picture of my cat, Alice, on my snapchat story for not only my friends, but others as well. I tried to remember to take a snapshot of my engagement snapchat has received, but took a midterm and forgot all about it after my class. However, the last time I checked there was 101 friends and two other people who had viewed my snapchat story of Alice.

 On Facebook, I did share a video of well behaved cats. I had one share and two likes. I did post it at 9:05pm when I saw the post; so therefore, I think it is safe to say that 9:05pm is not a good time to post anything where I will get engagement.

 My comment was telling Alice she needs to take lessons from these cats. Alice is still young; so therefore, she always wants to play.

 One of the Christmas decorations I was hoping to complete so I could post it on Instagram is close to being done. All I have left to do is put the handles and paint the letters. You should be seeing it in the next couple of weeks on Instagram.

 This coming week, my research group from the summer, will be in Washington D.C. presenting the research project about yearbooks. Some of the upcoming post on my social media platforms will be about the trip.

 This is the convention where my research group will be presenting during the trip. If you are going to the convention, then you should stop by and listen to our presentation.

Week 6

This week is a has been another busy week of school. I have been sharing other’s content on both Facebook and Twitter. I did retweet a recipe that looked delicious and did not receive any likes. Also, I did connect my Tumblr account to my Instagram account. 

This picture is showing my Tumblr and Facebook connected to my Instagram. I did post my painted pumpkin on Tumblr as well to test out if I successfully connected the two accounts. 

I did post a picture last night of my pumpkin that I decorated in Communication Club. I posted it at around 10pm hoping that I would reach my followers that stay up at night and allow the post to be close up to the top of the newsfeed for the ones that get up early in the morning. However, this think process did not create as much engagement as much as expected or even hit my average. 

I received 14 likes so far on my post. I tagged @mwsu_comm_club and @missouriwesternstateuniversity as well as using #pumpkinpainting and #gandhi hoping to received more engagement.

Week 5

I did not do very well on my social media presence this week. I had many assignments due this week along with a quiz and test. So therefore, I was not my social media platforms and I need to improve last week. 

I did share the Communication Club fundraiser flyer. On Wednesday, October 9, I posted the flyer in the Facebook and Instagram stories. This is the first time I have used either platforms stories. 

The left picture is on Instagram and the second picture is Facebook. I am surprised that I reached more people on Instagram compared to Facebook since I have more friends on Facebook. 

This week, I did create a Bio on my Instagram and Facebook. On Facebook, after this picture was taken, there was a total of 71 people saw my story.

Week 4

This week, I have been busy on social media. During the Social Media Branding class, my class had a Twitter Scavenger Hunt. During this assignment, I have gained 4 more followers on Twitter. For the post of “Professor on the Street, ”I interviewed and took a picture of Dr. Christopher Bond. He retweeted the post and I got 4 likes. 

Considering that I am just really starting to use Twitter, I think I am doing well for a rookie. I need to continue to learn how to use Twitter and gain followers. Also, I need to find items that are retweeting worthy for my audience on Twitter.

Also, this week I posted a picture at 7am to see if 7am worked the same as 5am; however, that did not work. I only got 20 likes at 7am compared to 30 likes at 5am. However, I think that is average when one looks at the 3 weeks of posting.

I am going to another garage sale this week and attending the Josephine Expo 2019. So, go follow my Instagram and see what neat items I find this weekend!

Week 3

I shared a post on Facebook and I received 10 likes which is one less than last week when I changed my profile picture.  I changed my profile picture at 7:03 pm so for the next post I posted at 8:50 am to see if I would get more audience engagement. However, it was about the same.  On Facebook I need to get more engagement of my audience. 

On Sunday night, I finished making a snowman out of a piece of wood; therefore, I put it on Instagram. I guess I was so excited on how my snowman turned out, I did not consider the time of day I was posting to Instagram, I remembered that 7:23 is not a good time to post on Instagram. My post is proof of that. I only recieved17 likes compared to my 31 likes on Savannah’s picture; however, this week I tagged Allison who made my snowman’s hat and she commented on it. I rarely get comments on post so I thought it was an improvement. 

Also, this week, I posted my second post on Twitter and I gained 3 more followers and hoping to gain more. So go follow my page @kalee30720539. I am going on a Twitter Scavenger Hunt which has had me post several original posts this week. This Twitter Scavenger Hunt has led to me following two more people as of right now and I have retweeted some of Lora’s Twitter Scavenger Hunt post.

Today I attended the portal grant presentations where I was able to introduce people from my school to the project I was apart of over the summer.

This project was Old Saint Jo (www.oldsaintjo.com) and my main job was producing the first of our episodic documentary series.

It was an incredible experience and was well recieved by those that listened to our speech. This included the new president Matt Wilson who greeted the project with open arms and enthusiasm.

The documentary will drop on the Old Saint Jo YouTube channel on the 25th and I can't wait to share it with everyone.

Week 1

When looking at my social media platforms, most people would not find out much about me. I have not posted often.  Normally, if the picture or post is tied to my name, then someone would tag me in them. 

For this week, my goal is to post on social media and to figure out how many of my followers actually like my post. My normal “go to” platforms are Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. 

This week I changed my profile picture on Facebook with a picture from last semester that I took.  The picture is of  me in a mirror with myself and the camera. I absolutely adore this picture, because the mirror has sentimental value.

The mirror used to be my great grandma Bowman’s mirror. Not only has she used it, but many of my family members have used it also.  This makes me feel closer to family who do not live close and that I do not get to see often. 

This is the picture that I used for my profile picture. The mirror has been in my family for three generations and hopefully several more to come.  

When analyzing my activity on my profile picture change, I did not get as many likes as I thought I would. I only got 11 likes on my profile picture. 

This surprised me, because many of my friends on Facebook are family members that should recognize this mirror. I did post it at 7 at night which is normally a decent time post allowing my friends to see the post. 

Also, this week I posted a picture of my pet cow, Savannah, on Instagram. I am surprised that it did get as many likes. I have a total of 30 likes. 

I had two strategies when I posted on my Instagram. I used hashtags pet, cow, and farmlife. Also, I planned and posted it at 5 in the morning to have a greater chance of my picture being seen.   

 This is a picture I took of Savannah walking up to the north barn. Savannah will be 4 years old on the 15th of October. 

Throughout this semester, I plan on analyzing several of my social media post in hope to improve my brand and my social media branding experience. Also, I plan on improving what I post, because, after this week, I struggled to figure out what to post about on my social media accounts.
